Terrible

We drove several hours to this “pet friendly” location only to find that it was double booked. There was a dog and clothes all over the cottage we were supposed to be staying in. I called the owner and they seemed very confused and unorganized. Another group was there and they said they had to move cabins midweek because of booking issues. I had to scramble to find other accommodation that would allow pets at the last minute. I had called and given an ETA and everything seemed fine until we arrived and had no place to stay. Kim was apologetic and offered 25% off our next stay, but that won’t happen. We eventually booked a lovely spot in Charlottesville that was amazing

Great stay on Historic property

It was a privilege to stay at such an historic property. I am thankful that Kim and Nico continue to preserve the beautiful house and necessary buildings for all to enjoy. We were given complete access to the farm and hiked all over it.

Cute cozy cottage

Cute cozy cottage. Relatively clean. We were able to walk over the pool area and enjoy a drink before dinner. We had some issues with the microwave triggering the breakers. Annoying but the owners came right over to fix. They were very responsive to all questions.

Historic south

The property was amazingly beautiful and quintessential southern farm. Dirt drive lined by trees provided the perfect welcome. Very comfortable cozy cabin provided the best night sleep. Oh and the welcoming committee were the friendliest kitties. Thank you so much and will definitely return for a longer stay.

Quaint Cottage Circa 1772

This little cottage was perfect! It was built in 1772 but was very comfortable for modern day 2024 with its colonial charm. The hosts supplied comforts such as coffee and creamer. We drank our coffee in the rose garden and also wandered out to sit by the pool in the morning. We would definitely stay here, again!

Charming cottages! All the necessary comforts in a very prettily decorated and warm environment.

It was a wonderful stay on a beautiful property. This property is very relaxing and peaceful. The kitties and spaniel who live on the farm make friends with guests right away and bring such charm as the farm’s little mascots. Such a wonderful and relaxing experience.

An Amazing Gem!

We found this wonderful property on the random and it did not disappoint. In fact, as history buffs, this place and the region blew us away with historical significance! The property is on a beautiful 200 acre farm- we enjoyed the horses, walking the property, and wonderful pool, and the very friendly and accommodating owners- Kim and Nico. The cottage was quaint, cozy and comfortable. It does have narrow staircase and low attic ceiling and doorframes, consistent with properties of the 1700's. But we absolutely loved it and would definitely return!

Historic cottage in beautiful setting

The property is a beautiful historic setting. It was peaceful and serene yet still close to restaurants, gas station and more. Understand the cottage is truly historic with steep stairs to the second floor and low door frames. Nico and Kim were easy to communicate with and were great hosts. If we make it back to Virginia we would absolutely visit again.

Disappointing

The cabin (#157) is infested with Asian lady beetles (bugs that look like lady bugs but aren’t. Those bugs will bite you) and with wasps. We stayed only long enough to cancel and ensure we get a refund. Unfortunately, this ruined the weekend we were looking forward to for months. Bug infestation was obviously not communicated with us, and we were told that the bugs are “in season” and the owner would go and get some wasp spray. We took a three hour drive only to turn around and go home, as there were not other available hotels nearby.

Quaint Cottage in Beautiful Countryside

Beautiful rustic cottage surrounded by acres of land. Full kitchen and great water pressure in shower. The upstairs open bedrooms had sloped ceilings so not much head room to stand, and the stairs were a bit steep. Beds were very comfortable and everything was supplied that we would need for our stay. Great location with Interstate 64 close by. Many historical sites and wineries to visit along with the breathtaking Shenandoah Mountains nearby. The hosts, Nico and Kim, supplied a lot of information about the area and were helpful with any questions we had. We enjoyed meeting their two cats, Charley and Carson, who often greeted us.

Lovly views !

Beautiful grounds, Quiet and well taken care of. The cottage provided everything that we needed. Even though we had a big rainstorm for over 24 hours come through. It was still the perfect place to spend time with family. The best part was the cat's so sweet and made themselves at home. We would love to be able to get all 3 cottages for family. Coming up next summer with the big, beautiful and ground pool. That they have looking forward to staying again.

Serene

The property at Greensprings could not have been more serene and picturesque. We rented 2 cottages so our family could spread out and that worked out well for the younger folks and the older folks. Lots to do in the area with shopping, restaurants and gas very close by.

Historic cabin tucked away in Central VA

Three adult women enjoyed the cottage very much! If you’re looking for a quiet getaway - this is it! About ten minutes from a couple of good food options (Well-Hung Winery restaurant and East of Maui coffee shop). Close enough to Charlottesville for time at Monticello and, of course, some fantastic wineries. Our friend who is always warm stayed on the main level which was considerably cooler than the upper level. Size (small!) was perfectly fine for three of us.

Down on the farm feeling

Experience was awesome. We enjoyed our stay in the historic accomodations. The loving cats Charlie and Carson were so friendly and welcoming that it made it feel just like home, they were a wonderful surprise and a great extra benefit to our stay. Recommend this location if you are looking for a quite country stay that is close to exciting and interesting towns.

About the host

Hosted by Nicolaas ( Nico in short )

Host profile image
Nico originally from Holland working all over the world and Kim a working actress and model based in Los Angeles paths crossed over 25 years ago on a flight from London to LA, and nothing has been the same since.

Since they met, it has been their dream to live on a farm; little did they realize this farm would be historic and in Virginia. The tree-lined driveway, beautiful buildings, rolling pastures, and wooded forests with the Blue Ridge Mountains in the backdrop, they knew this was the dream they always wanted and they wanted to share their love with anyone who is interested.

Why they chose this property

Countryside Living In A Historic 18th Century Estate
Welcome to gorgeous and historic Green Springs Historic Farm. Conveniently located just 20 miles from Charlottesville, VA and surrounded by Virginia's finest wineries, the estate provides the perfect break from city life. Our beautiful home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and our rich land is placed in a National Conservation Easement. The Main House was built circa 1772 by Colonel Richard Morris, who served with General George Washington in the French and Indian War and later was the Paymaster for the Revolutionary War.. The three dependencies that surround the Main House remain from around the same time period.

Nestled in an enchanted backdrop of 255 acres including forests with meandering trails, 2 ponds and a large 30 acre private lake, rolling pastures with beautiful stables for horses, Green Springs Historic Farm offers numerous amenities for all.
* Note;
We have horses on the property / pastures please do not feed them.

What makes this property unique

Green Springs Historic Farm was built in 1772 in Gordonsville, Virginia by Captain Richard Morris (c.1740-1821). He developed 1,746 acres of very fertile land by the mineral springs that gave the property its name.
Col. Morris was the Commissary for the Virginia Troops during the Revolutionary War and during this time his good friend Patrick Henry would frequent the property. His eldest son, Dr. James Maury Morris, inherited the home and property, and when Dr. Morris died in 1844, the home passed on to his son, William. The house was sold in 1877 after William was killed in battle during the Civil War. Green Springs Historic Farm has changed owners several time over the decades, but the integrity of Col. Morris home has remained constant.

Bounded by Route 15 and Route 22 in the western end of the county, the area is six and one-half miles long, four and one-half miles wide. There was an early Quaker settlement in the 1720's on Camp Creek.
