About this property

The Manger, Perched in an elevated position within the Blackdown Hills National Landscape.

Perched in an elevated position within the Blackdown Hills National Landscape. The Manger offers memorable views along the length of the spectacular Yarty valley. The tranquil setting, far from the noise and lights of traffic and urban life, offers circular country walks, your own enclosed grassland and orchard and quiet spaces to enjoy the exceptional location. At night, the sky is transformed by the abundance of stars, creating a spectacle that perfectly complements the serene surroundings.

The Manger boasts a picturesque thatched roof and an array of unique features that make it an ideal holiday home. The attractions of this charming property are enhanced by its stone walls, 17th century beams and roots from the past with the original horse stalls and hay racks. These original features allow guests to step back in time while enjoying modern comforts.

As visitors approach The Manger, they are greeted by an expanse of grassland and trees that lead to a mature orchard. These provide private space for relaxation and outdoor activities. The garden caters to a variety of leisurely pursuits, whether that involves unwinding or dining on the outdoor terrace or chasing a ball through the long grass. In early Spring the protected landscape comes alive with snowdrops and nesting birds while in May the nearby woods burst into colour as the native bluebells carpet the forest floor. Nature enthusiasts will delight in the frequent visits from badgers, deer, rabbits and, in season, a vast variety of butterflies and moths. Rare bats roost in the cider barn while woodpeckers, wagtails, swallows, and other birds nest nearby.

The Manger is ideally situated, not only in its unique setting but in its proximity to the stunning coastline and the small towns that line the famous Jurassic Coast. Guests can easily explore one of Europe's greatest landslips, its rugged beauty and uncover how it is still revealing the secrets of the dinosaurs. The history of the building, parts of which date back five hundred years, its location, the surroundings, and level of comfort make The Manger an ideal holiday retreat and a place for creating lasting memories.

Wonderful long weekend

This is a most beautiful property. The online details are very accurate. The views are amazing - every time we looked out of the window, we just said "wow"! The kitchen is extremely well appointed and the welcome hamper was superb - milk, eggs, muesli, biscuits, cake, fresh fruit, orange juice, bread etc. During our stay we were also given a delightful jar of homemade strawberry & rhubarb jam. Delicious! The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The only one thing I would say is that the website was not clear on the extra cost for a dog. It stated that there would be a charge but not what that charge would be. The garden is fabulous for a dog but the boundary between this property and the other holiday cottage mean that a dog can easily run through. Luckily our dog was a little large to get through but for smaller dogs it is something to be aware of. In summary, we had the most amazing long weekend and would thoroughly recommend this property.
