More pluses than minuses
This was our third stay at this charming, well located cottage. It is full of character with its beams, lovely working (gas) fireplace, extra half bathroom en-suite, large master bedroom, comfortable 2nd bedroom on top floor with a lovely view, good heating system, bright family bathroom and plenty of hot water for a large bathtub. The management was Johnny on the spot at replacing a very old, rusty non-working toaster…we have always found the management responsive and have been appreciative of that. All of this being said, there were dust bunnies the size of small rabbits, the bathroom floor was dirty, along with the window shelf, a film of dust covered many items and the floors, the shower flow was weak with only lukewarm water, the living room furniture has seen better days and the once well stocked kitchen with dishes, bowls, implements and pans looks like it has slowly been raided over the years and items not replaced. We have always found holiday lets in the UK to be immaculate, so to find one of our favorite holiday cottages a bit worn and dusty was disappointing. Yet, we do love this historical, cozy cottage and the location is superb, Woodstock and its shops, pubs and restaurants are very good and its shopkeepers are cordial and helpful. And the hop, skip and jump access to Blenheim…literally priceless. Happy memories have been made here at Brown’s Lane.

Woodstock makes the perfect holiday destination or base for Oxford city centre. Woodstock has enormous historical interest with the magnificent Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill, located in the centre, just two minutes walk from the cottage. Visitors to the palace can take a walk around the 2,000 acres of landscaped parkland and beautiful formal gardens or take a picnic by the great lake.
There are over ten small restaurants and pubs within two minutes walk of the cottage, ranging from reasonably priced Indian, Chinese and Italian restaurants to silver service in the well known Feathers and Bear hotels. Blenheim Palace Gate is also a two minute walk and the property is situated next door to Woodstock Museum, which boasts a beautiful garden and home made cakes and lunches in it's ever popular museum cafe. The Cotswolds are a short drive away.

The Short Let Space offices are based in Woodstock and if you are ever looking for local advice or recommendation please just let us know.

Woodstock is located approximately eight miles outside of Oxford city centre to the North West of the city. Access to the city centre is easy and convenient by bus or by car. Woodstock makes the perfect location to explore the Cotswolds area and other cities of England such as London and Bath. London is now only 50 minutes by train from Oxford Parkway (a ten minute drive).
