About the area
Santa Barbara
Located on the waterfront, this holiday home is in Santa Barbara Beach, a neighbourhood in Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara Harbor and Stearns Wharf are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those in the mood for shopping can visit Paseo Nuevo Mall and La Arcada. Check out an event or a game at Santa Barbara Bowl, and consider making time for Santa Barbara Zoo, a top attraction not to be missed. Make sure you get close to the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.
We are three retired work friends who visit Santa Barbara often. This was one of our most favorite stays! Perfectly walkable location, comfortable beds, lovely backyard areas, and quiet privacy. Off street parking was a plus as we hardly used the car! Thank you for providing such a wonderful spot for us to celebrate.
We loved our stay at the house. It was just as described on VRBO. The kitchen was well set up and had some basics like salt pepper and spices which was nice. The location was perfect! It's just a block from the beach and all the great spots in town. The communication was excellent. Thanks for a great stay.
The location and adorable neighborhood are the standouts to this quaint little bungalow. Super close to the the beach and the Funk Zone. The house was immaculate, although it did have a bit of a musty smell to it. The yard is cute and inviting, but we didn't use it on account of the cold weather. The bedrooms and bathroom are VERY tiny, and the shower pressure is disappointing, but the beds are comfy and there are plenty of extra pillows. I might suggest upgrading the bath towels for a more luxe experience. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in beautiful Santa Barbara!
Overall the house was nice, clean and the beds were comfortable.
Some things to note if you’re looking for a quiet place to stay like I alway am. There is a train nearby that you can hear the horn during the overnight hours. For one of our nights there was a crazy loud party somewhere that sounded like a nightclub in the house. The only saving grace was they shut off my 10pm.
These two things are not within the property owners control but it is good to note this because I live in an area that has horrible loud parties like this and when I vacation I want to get away from it completely.
The owner was very nice and responsive when I had questions. I would definitely pick this place again if I had to stay in SB.
A really lovely place in a great location. Loved the outdoor space, watching the hummingbirds feed and we even picked ourselves some fresh oranges from the trees. Would love to come back again.
A very cute property in a great location of Santa Barbara, you can walk to everything. Beds were comfy and we had everything we needed for a lovely stay in SB. The outdoor space is really nice. Garden areas and back fence could use a little cleanup but overall, very nice.
Dianes place is so incredibly close to everything wonderful. Walking distance from the beach in a quiet, peaceful little neighborhood. She was super fast to respond to any questions we had and was extremely accommodating. I will definitely book this property again!
My sister and I decided on a getaway to Santa Barbara to celebrate our milestone birthdays. I wanted something reasonably priced that had good walkability to the beach and into town for dining. Casa Capricho fit our wishes perfectly! We appreciated the attention to detail and cleanliness. Checkin/out was easy and seamless. Interactions with the proprietor were all pleasant. Although it wasn't a necessity, it was definitely a plus to be able to park in a driveway. I highly recommend this lovely cottage!
This is home is so quaint and wonderful! We had a lovely stay. The location is amazing. We loved the decor and style of this Spanish bungalow. And we also really enjoyed the backyard. Thanks for a great stay!
I was a little disappointed with the size of the property when we first checked in.
But after a few hours outside as well as inside, I realized you can't judge this property solely on the size of the bathroom and the bedrooms.
You must take into account the great outdoor seating areas and the location.
The location is simply the BEST for Santa Barbara. You are literally a stone's throw from the Amtrak station which is at the base of State Street. If you intend to imbibe and eat your way through Santa Barbara, this is the place to stay.
As for the size, once I compared this property to the many hotels and motels a block to two away, this place gained so much more in value.
It is clean, comfortable and homey. It is not chic, modern and hip. But if you want comfort, convenience and proximity to the best of Santa Barbara, this would be my choice.
The weather was perfect during our stay and this allowed us a few hours sitting outside on the very comfortable and clean lounge chairs. The sun, a slight breeze from the ocean and an occasional blast from the Amtrak Surfrider pulling in and out at the station really creates an ambiance and comfort level.
My family spent a week at this property and we were thrilled with the ease and location of our stay. We walked everywhere as this cottage is a block to the beach and a couple of blocks to the funk zone for wineries, galleries, breweries and shopping.
The property is so well maintained and we enjoyed the outdoor space for morning coffee and afternoon wine. There are orange trees in the back yard and we picked and enjoyed them daily!
This place is a gem and we will definitely return.
Amazing property with the best location to visit SB beaches and downtown/funk zone. Great beaches, restaurants and water activities with a relaxing home as your base!!
We really enjoyed our time here. It was very clean, great walkable location and we had fresh orange juice from the trees every day. Was a little nervous to have to sign an agreement outside of the VRBO app, but there was nothing concerning in it and we had no issues from the host. We heard the train a couple of times, but only during the day, and no noise issues at night. All guests enjoyed the home and would stay again.
Casa Capricho was a great little house in an ideal location to explore Santa Barbara. It's in a very nice neighborhood close to the beach and the Funk Zone. We were able to walk to restaurants, the harbor, the wharf and more. The house has everything you need. The yard is private and quaint. We would stay here again.
This was the perfect place for my wife, son and I to enjoy everything Santa Barbara has to offer. We could walk most everywhere we wanted go. Restaurants, bars, the Funk Zone and the beach are literally a block away. Super comfortable home with the greatest little paradise of a back patio and yard. This home has everything you need for a perfect stay. Parking on site is such a plus as well. I would recommend this house to anyone looking to spend some time in Santa Barbara.
Host very easy person to work with and to trust. Exceptional stay. Would like to go again in the sum

About the host
Hosted by Diane Connors
We live in Buellton, CA and have always dreamed of owning a home in Santa Barbara. We have recently retired and purchased and redid this wonderful cottage for us, our daughters, and our 8 grandchildren to use and enjoy. We love sailing off the California coast and feel so lucky when staying at Casa Capricho and being able to walk to the boat at the harbor.
Why they chose this property
We initially purchased our vacation cottage because one of our children was attending school in this location, but we quickly fell in love with this beautiful city and all of the cultural and outdoor activities that it offers.
What makes this property unique
We love the Spanish Colonial charm of our cottage, our private garden with orange trees and our quiet neighborhood. We especially love the fact that we can walk everywhere! We take daily walks along East and West Beaches to Shoreline Park or out on Stearns Wharf. We love to walk to our favorite restaurants, Brophy Brothers and Enterprise Fish Company. We often walk to the movie theaters on State Street or to the Farmer's Markets on Tuesdays and Saturdays. We walk to the Santa Barbara Sailing Center, where we can rent a sailboat by the hour or take whale watching cruises. We walk to our Athletic Club to work out, to East Beach to pay beach tennis or volley ball, or to West Beach for swimming or tennis. We often picnic at Shoreline Park. We love the proximity of Santa Barbara City College and the opportunity to take classes there. We also love all the cultural events offered at the Lobero and Granada Theaters and other venues accessible by foot. We enjoy the benefits of the activities of the Maritime Museum, the MOXY museum of science, and the Ronald Reagan Museum with all of their offerings and all within walking distance. It is truly a dream come true to spend time in this city.
