Great waterfront spot!

My friends and I stayed at Kim and Steve's place for the weekend and it was wonderful! The house comes with every amenity you could need, it's a quiet and peaceful location, and Kim and Steve were so friendly, thoughtful, and gracious. The property is right on a creek and a very short walk to the larger river, and they provide everything you need to kayak or float in the water. North East is a cute town close by, and Kim gave so many wonderful suggestions to check out while we were there--wineries, restaurants, hikes, shops, etc. We would definitely stay here again!

Christmas in Paradise

The owners were always reaching out to see if there was anything we needed. House was immaculate and fully stocked with kitchenware, linens, towels, sundries with an outdoor grill and fire pit surrounded by chairs. Setting couldn't be more beautiful at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay on the Elk River, in the middle of Elk Neck State Park and Forest. You could see a million stars at night and hear a pin drop. I would highly recommend this listing for anyone who is looking to "get away from it all". Owners are very down to earth, friendly and good people who go out of their way to be helpful. Looking forward to my next visit there. This will be a regular retreat for me and my family.

Nice and peaceful ( awesomesauce per my 8 year old daughter)

We had an amazing, quite Thanksgiving break and Kim's place. Exactly what we needed to recharge. Kim gave us lots of ideas what to do in the area. We love the water view and all the wildlife.

Riverview getaway

Originally planned as a ladies' getaway weekend unexpectedly turned into a blissful one of solitude. Kim does a fabulous job of making suggestions for town attractions and must try as well as creates a comfortable homey cabin feel with a lovely view of the river. She also shares her family's history with the property. The bed was amazingly comfortable, the bathrooms have everything you need for a short stay (bodywash, shampoo/conditioner). What an opportunity to witness Mother Nature in action -- eagles catching fish and flying back to their nest and bucks crossing your path. Loved the firepit and readily available kindling and logs to spark a fire. Don't need fancy, love the outdoors, and just looking to reconnect. Little peace of serenity here.

Quiet & Comfortable Getaway with all the essentials!

Our family had a relaxing and enjoyable weekend escape. The property is tucked back in a little alcove off of Elk River. The home was fully outfitted with everything we needed! We enjoyed the quiet of the property, the quaint town of North East, and access to local sites/nature walks. From the start, Kim was super helpful & communicative. She welcomed us when we arrived, provided a tour of the property and local recommendations, and checked in to make sure we were comfortable and having a good stay. Highly recommend!

Don’t think twice

You will experience the tranquility and relaxation you need. If you want to see beautiful sunrises and sunsets, see wildlife (deer, eagles , fox, ducks and geese) and have access to kayaks and so much more this is your place. Your hosts will make you feel like friends from the get go. Bottom line- Just beautiful here.

Very relaxing

We came up for a family reunion at Elk Neck State Park. Location was great for us as it's was only a 10 min drive. View of the lake was nice and Kim and her husband were very accommodating. Left us cookies and a bottle of wine. They also provided wood for the fireplace. We will deffinately come back again.

July Weekend

Great communication. The hosts are super responsive and super helpful. I had forgotten K cups and texted them and they had me supplied within 10 minutes! (There is also a drip coffee maker in the house.) AC was cold and great in the hot weekend. All towels needed were available including beach towels. Location is rustic, quiet, and removed from busyness for sure. Modular house is clean and has all essentials. The hosts made extra effort to have a new nonstick pan on hand as well as baking sheets. We enjoyed kayaking. The dock is a 4-5 minute walk down the gravel road from the house. Overall the place worked well for our getaway weekend. We recommend Unwined restaurant at Triton marina.

River retreat

We had a great time, atmosphere was more than you one could ask for if you were looking for a laid back relaxing time. Kim and Steve were in contact, with ideas and and suggestions for the area. The quiet spot by the river with the fire pit in the evening was the best. we are trying to pick a weekend for next year to return. Thank you Kim and Steve

Nice for a quick weekend away!

Overall very relaxing and quiet. The property itself has a few abandoned houses on it, but it made for some great stories and spookiness around the camp fire. Plenty of room for tents and storing kayaks! Our whole family was able to enjoy kayaking and we made it to see the zebras! Great fishing opp off the dock, although we didn’t catch anything. The water is a bit murky, but we also stayed the weekend after the hurricane went through. Kim and Steve were great at explaining the history of the property and were very accommodating. Service is spotty out there, but that’s a good thing if you want to unplug and they do have WiFi.

A Tranquil Cove with Lots to Explore

What a pleasure staying at Kim and Steve's place! The communication with Kim before arriving was great and upon arriving we sat down at the boat dock and chatted with Kim and Steve getting to know each other. They made us feel more like old friends instead of just guests. My wife and I were very pleased with the quiet location and it felt like we were the only ones around, even though we knew better. The property had a lot to offer and we took advantage of exploring the river and streams on their kayaks and had such a relaxing time. There are many awesome places around to visit for shopping, eating, hiking, or just relaxing. We would definitely come back to this place again! Highly recommended!

Upper Chesapeake Cozy Home with Water Access

Kim was a welcoming, helpful, and responsive host. We were lucky to have the place to ourselves for the weekend (there's another rental right next door, which was vacant during our visit.) The house was cozy and clean with a well stocked kitchen. Note that though you can see the river from the house, it's not right on the water. To reach the dock, it's a short walk past other occupied homes. That said, we had the dock and kayaks all to ourselves, and sat out on the covered dock at sunrise, sunset, and in the rain. We went swimming and paddling a few times a day. The water access from the dock felt very secluded protected as it sits in a shallow basin between two creeks that feed into the Elk Neck River. It was perfect for my godson - a beginner 9 year old paddler! We enjoyed our stay very much and would return.

peace on the Elk River

What amazing outlook onto the Elk River and Chesapeake. Peace, quiet, bird life, and a real change of scenery. Both secluded and close to town and parks. Kim and Steve were also so helpful in making the place extra comfortable for my 80 year parents. And their sharing the history of the whole property was a special treat.

BEAUTIFUL & Relaxing Hideaway!

Kim and her husband are friendly, gracious hosts and the little 3-bedroom house was exactly as described. The area is QUIET and peaceful, and access to the river and water-sport supplies are literally steps from your door!!! Wedding enjoyment by all

We were so impressed with our hostess Kim and her husband Steve. They have done a great job at the property. Everything is clean and functions well. We had firewood for the fire pit given to us by the owners too! After a smooth check-in and tour of the grounds and property, we settled in and saw magnificent starry night prior to nephews wedding at Elk Neck State Park. We had a terrific start to the day kayaking in the morning seeing osprey and cranes and even a bald Eagle. It’s the perfect, peaceful spot for the family to unwind and enjoy the best things in life! We couldn’t have had a better spot.

About the host

Hosted by Kim

Host profile image
Hello! :) I'm Kim and I am married to Steve. I own this rental property with my brother, Gene.

Steve and I have 4 kids; ages 32, 27, 25, and 20. Steve is a Systems Engineer, who runs his own business, plus has a part-time job as well in computers. In his "spare" time, he keeps the books (QuickBooks!) for our vacation properties and also mows a lot of grass & cleans all the propane grills between Guests!!!! I manage our vacation homes, doing the advertising & marketing (updating this site, taking photos, keeping track of bookings). I do all the cleaning (tons of laundry, bed-making & bathroom cleaning!), furnishing & decorating, and keeping up with all the paperwork and paying all the bills on time. My most important job is communicating with our amazing Guests through texts, emails and phone calls; I guide them in planning their vacation and promptly answer any questions, and on arrival day, we greet our Guests and show them around the property (their house, the river & kayaks), ensuring they feel "at home" at their "home away from home". We have been told our hospitality is "second to none", which is the highest compliment, and I know it is because we truly love what we do and when you love what you do, it shows!! In our spare time, we love kayaking on the Elk River. When we get a day away, we love a trip to Rehoboth Beach!
...
Gene is a super-hard worker, both with his own Masonry business (working 6 & 7 days a week) and here on the property in his "spare" time. He is the one who takes care of the dirt lane and all the maintenance work around here, for the property itself plus all the homes. This is a huge job and he's on top of it! He has one son who is 27. Gene enjoys being on the water in his bass boat & riding his motorcycle. He also loves deep-sea fishing and traveling to Chincoteague Island.

Why they chose this property

Our Great-Grandfather bought this property because it was his favorite fishing spot! This beautiful property has been in our family since 1918 when our Grandfather moved here from NY with his parents; he was 5 years old. He grew up here, then our Dad grew up here, and then Gene and I grew up and now our own kids have grown up here!
...
When we were growing up, our Grandparents rented the property for summer rentals and those are our favorite childhood memories, so we are so excited to be bringing that back! We love sharing this unique little cove along the Elk River- it is unique as there is not quite anywhere like it that I have seen! It is truly special!

What makes this property unique

Kayaking... just being out on the water, especially on a quiet evening, watching the Bald Eagles fly overhead, Osprey hovering mid-air and then diving down to grab a fish from the water, seeing the families of Geese and Mallards, Blue Heron and once in awhile a white one, lots of different birds, fish jumping, gentle waves, a warm breeze, maybe deer playing, or fox, or raccoon walking along the shoreline... this is why I love this property. It is so peaceful and serene - good for the mind and the soul!!
