Home Away from Home
This property is nothing short of amazing. Al and Sarah have thought of everything a guest could possibly need-from a beautiful welcome basket, a fully supplied kitchen with basic sauces and seasonings, to more than basic bathroom toiletries, laundry facilities, fire pit gathering space, even hammocks throughout the property. The welcome book is full of information about the area and super helpful material for families like mine who plan day by day. This was a great location for us as we hit Mt Rushmore, Needles, Custer, Spearfish, Sylvan, and Rapid City. My family loved the farm animals and interacting with them daily-especially the bunnies! The cabins are exactly as pictured, and my daughters loved having their own space upon the loft We hope to return soon to enjoy the area and the hospitality we loved here at Camp Fire Cabins! Thank you Al and Sarah for thinking of everything!

Amazing
The cabins are in a quiet area just far enough away from town, but close enough to get everything you need. Everything we wanted to do was within 1 1/2 hour drive in any direction. The cabin had everything we could need and even added extras for a nice welcoming gift. Our boys loved playing with all of the animals and loved the campfire area. The host was very friendly, attentive and available if needed. 10/10 I would visit again and recommend to friends and family.

Our experience was superior! The cabin was in excellent condition end exactly as described. It is centrally located to all the things we wanted to see. We were there for Sturgis bike rally and its is a nice quiet place to come to to unwind after a long day of activities. Sarah is a superior host and takes care of all needs you may have. She is definitely a people person and a joy to talk to. We were there for eight days and will be back for another stay for sure!! Thanks Sarah!

Family vacation
We are a family of five (including three teenagers) on vacation to see South Dakota. The scenic drive to the cabin was beautiful. The cabin was super clean and had ample space for all of us. The teens especially enjoyed sleeping in the loft and watching the chickens, bunnies and cats each morning before we headed out. We would definitely stay here again.

I picked this location because of the great reviews along with a welcoming 6 farm fresh eggs in the fridge. They were delicious 😋 But it was much more. The cabin had everything you need, great showed, Fluffy towels, comfy bed, beautiful quilt, cows, chickens, goats, and the house cats, especially Rocket which is a very sweet and affectionate 🐈 We had a very nice peaceful time here, would definitely recommend, and plan another trip in the future 😊

Great place to stay!
We are from the east side of the state and come to the hills often. We prefer a cabin to hotel stay. This is a great location and cabin with lots of extras so you dont have to haul alot of stuff with you. We also need a place to park our trailer and side x side which this place has, many places don't. Liked the big fire pit and play area for kids (our grandkids visited...they were camping down the road) They loved the kitties, rabbits, goats and chickens. We liked the fresh eggs! Plan to stay here again.

Second year staying here for the rally and absolutely loved it. Very convenient central location between Deadwood and Hill City and just far enough away from the craziness to have very relaxing evenings by the fire and peaceful silent nights. Can’t wait to return.

Awesome hosts, awesome cabin!
This was the most enjoyable trip I’ve had yet to the Black Hills, and Campfire Cabins was a big part of it. The Sutton’s are fantastic hosts and even nicer people! The cabins are beautifully designed, super comfortable and immaculately kept! I can’t imagine a better place to stay in the Black Hills. We’ve already reserved our cabin for next year.

Great place!
We had a wonderful time. The hosts are extremely attentive. Cabins are fully updated and spotless. If you like being near nature but want all the comforts of home this is the spot for you. My kids loved meeting all of the animals- especially holding the baby bunnies. We had a great time on our last night sitting around the fire with drinks and s’mores getting to know our hosts and fellow guests. Cabins are central to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Custer State park without being in the middle of the chaos. Highly recommend!

Not only was the cabin beautiful and very clean the owners went above and beyond to welcome us and they have thought of everything you could need while on vacation. We had a little gift bowl of snacks that they had on the table with a welcoming note. A very detailed binder that included local restaurants, attractions, maps, and the owners cell number in case you needed anything. They were quick to reply and they are the friendliest people you will meet. They will come out and visit with you at the campfire to see how your stay is going and will give you tips on places to go. They have a little hobby farm and will welcome you to see their animals. Visiting South Dakota is amazing but Al and Sarah gave us memories we will never forget. We will stay here anytime we come back to South Dakota. I highly recommend staying here!

About the host

Hosted by Sarah Sutton

Host profile image
Campfire Cabins is proudly owned by Albert & Sarah Sutton. We grew up in the Black Hills. We were high school sweethearts and married after graduation. We then moved to Rapid City for work. 25 years and 6 children later we had the opportunity to purchase land and move back to the Black Hills. We soon realized how much we had missed the beauty and serenity of the local area.

We decided to turn our property into an organic hobby farm with a large greenhouse, chickens, ducks & turkeys, milking goats, and a handful of beef cows. We also decided to build cabins near our home to share with other families wanting to experience all the Black Hills have to offer. With 2 children still at home, we own and operate the cabins as family business. We look forward to getting to know you and be an added blessing to your vacation experience!

Why they chose this property

We believe family is important, and we want to give your family a memorable vacation!
We know how stressful it can be on everyone stuck in a car all day. Once you get here there is plenty of room for your kiddos to run around, play ball, and have a water fight on the front lawn while you take a breather and unpack. There are toys, games, books, and movies for them to use. Grab a drink and have a seat on the front porch and just enjoy their energy and happiness :)

Our cabins have a full-sized kitchen for you to prepare and cook snacks & meals. There is a small dining table inside each cabin and picnic tables and chairs outside for you to sit around and enjoy the togetherness of a meal and conversation.

With 6 children of our own, we know how expensive travel can be! Vacations don't have to be costly or "flashy". Kids will remember the TIME and EXPERIENCES you give them. They will remember bottle feeding calves up in the Sutton's barn and playing with the baby rabbits. They will remember the days you spent hiking, boating, or ATVing with them outdoors. They will remember the other kids they met at the campfire and the smores! They will remember playing soccer, beanbags, or flashlight tag with those same new friends while you get a chance to relax around the campfire and visit with other families from around the country. Want to know which trails are the best? Ask the other grandparents & parents who have already hiked/rode them! What is the best scenic drive? Is the pontoon boat or ATV rental worth it? Where are the best restaurants? Everyone is willing to help you out & share their experiences.

We (Al & Sarah) live on the property and are always available to answer your questions. Feel free to call or message us anytime! We are down at the campfire most nights, so come down and introduce yourselves! Smores are on us!!
