About this property

Here is a Frank Lloyd Wright round contemporary on your own private beach, nestled in the dune, designed to take advantage of the fullest panoramic views of the Delaware Bay. The property line goes to the edge of the water, meaning...you will be the only one on the beach! There are only a few houses actually ON the beach for rent in Cape May. Properties that say beachfront or waterfront are not on the beach. They are a house closest to the beach. There is a road in front of the house and then the beach (which is a public beach). A private beach is owned by the homeowner & the house is actually on the beach , thus only the occupants are allowed on the beach...making it safe. The only access to the beach is through the house. There are only a few like this one!

The Delaware Bay is home to some of the most amazing sunsets you'll ever see and dolphins by the score. Enjoy all the sounds of nature from your doorstep and unobstructed views of the private beach and water from the upstairs balcony and windows.

The outside has been repainted in late 2021 and the porch furniture is brand new.

The inside furniture is high-end from Denmark and the walls are filled with beautiful artwork. Upstairs is where you will find the gourmet kitchen, dining area, living room complete with home theater and a full bath. This is where you'll also find the master bedroom equipped with an HDTV and an awesome view of the water with a full master bath.

The downstairs offers a game room, two bedrooms (each with an HDTV), laundry and a full bath. The house is also equipped with cable, Netflix and WIFI.

Additional Amenities: Landline Phone in 4 Rooms, Extended Range Cordless that works on the Beach, Ceramic Cook Top, Breakfast Bar, two Desks with Phone, Electronic Dart Board, Game/Card Table, Ping Pong Table, outside grill & outside eating.

Realistic expectations help

I knew from other reviews that this was not a new, tip top shape house so we were not disappointed by flaws. The house was perfect for our goals but I can see where some people might be upset about some things. The owner was very responsive so I’m hopeful he will address the things that can easily be handled. I would not recommend it for small children or elderly. There are nails popping up on the deck and there is poison Ivy creeping up in various places on the deck and pathway. We had to re wash most of the dishes and check expiration dates on some things but would rather that than a barren, I’ll-equipped kitchen. The upstairs shower is tricky to get in and out of so caution is needed. The grill needs replacing but worked with some cajoling. Like many older seaside locations, mildew was an issue. Bring your own pillows for sure and perhaps don’t put your clothes directly in the bureaus. This is something we have found in other past beach house that were older. So, those were the major downsides, which, to us weren’t big deals since they were quite manageable and expected. The upsides were many, not the least of which was the owners responsiveness and, well, the amazing location!! We loved having two of our dogs come along. The beach access was terrific and we all were in heaven. It’s steep coming back up but manageable. Just realizing/remembering how tricky it was to wash their paws though. Thinking a basin and/or hose at the deck would be helpful. We used the mop bucket and a pitcher we had. We had our kayaks and I was able to paddle out from the house to mingle with a pod of dolphins. Pure magic. It’s a short drive to the local Acme grocery as well as nearby restaurants etc. The Cape May beach is a pretty easy drive as well. Get your week pass at any entrance and you are set. It’s a unique, quirky, fun house in an unbeatable location. The house is older and has many vintage features. It’s a mix of goofy tchotchkes and wall decorations alongside beautiful prints, photos and art. The eye is never bored. I’ve never seen bathrooms like the upstairs bathroom but I can say the water pressure and heat was great. The WiFi was solid though our phone signal in Cape May in general was not. The kitchen had everything we needed including a lobster pot. There were spices and even some leftover basic staples (butter, seltzer cans…) so we felt pretty well set up to make our family meals. The sunsets are gorgeous and we loved our stay. Thanks!

Needs updating

It is a beautiful view on a beautiful beach. Sunrise, sunset was beautiful, good internet, well stocked kitchen, full spice selection. Now the negative--Bathroom tile was cracked, bamboo growing threw downstairs window, kitchen overhead light not attached to ceiling, porch falling off of the building, soft spot in the floor of the bedroom by the sliding glass door, food debris under the beds, no code instructions to get into the house prior to arrival, no exit instructions, garbage and maggots in front yard until Thursday, soft spot in front of commode in green bathroom, washing machine doesn't aggitate, master bedroom leaked during a rain storm, no handle on sliding glass door, dining room chair broke, difficulty getting from beach up to path, had a rope to pull yourself up, hard to do with beach chairs, etc.

Decent Place To Stay

As noted in many previous reviews, the property is not well maintained but is still a decent place to stay. There are 2 bedrooms downstairs with no view & a MBR upstairs with a view of the bay & access to deck overlooking the bay. Be aware the only inside access to the upstairs is via a spiral staircase. You can access the upstairs outside by stairs running alongside the house. But be aware these stairs have uneven rise & runs, so need to be mindful when using them. From the deck there is a sand path down the dune to the beach; easy going down but takes a little more effort going up because of the sand. All rooms, beds & bathrooms were adequate. Parking is on the street in front of the house; no driveway. We would stay there again as price is reasonable for location & condition of house.

Needs some repairs which owner is taking care of. Not for anyone that has trouble with steps. Beautiful view of the bay! Beds were comfortable as was all the furniture. Would stay again.

Not for small children or older adults

This unique property looked great online. We should have believed the reviews. It is not suitable for small children (steep spiral stairway centrally located). The sand path to the beach was overgrown with roots and branches and is quite steep at the end for older folks. There's a rope to hold on to but if you are carrying anything it's useless. We arrived to dirty dishes and laundry still in the washer. (The dishwasher doesn't really work anymore) Greasy pots, lighter fluid and other chemicals left on the deck....broken chairs and debris. The owner needs to find a new cleaning service. Besides that, it is a very cool place with gorgeous views. We enjoyed the beach and the views. It's sad that it's so neglected. Good place for a young couple who can stay upstairs.

needs lots of work!

no ac, when we got there. had to wait 3 days to get it fixed. the deck outside is falling apart and no hand rail on lower half of step outside. access to the beach is a joke, treacherous would be the word I would use! many other things too! would never go there again unless major upgrades are done! good luck to the next renter!

Nice beach view and location but terrible house

The location and beach view from the deck and the beach itself were beautiful - nice sunsets, laughing gulls, horseshoe crabs, ospreys feeding, dolphins, people walking their kids and dogs. But that's it as far as positive remarks. There was no fire pit and no stereo that we could find. TV's in every room and DVR on the main TV, but no way to play your own music or DVDs. When we arrived we looked for a guide or instructions for the place which we have always found at VRBO properties we have rented, but there wasn't one. We looked for sheets since 2 of the 3 beds were not made and couldn't find any. Eventually, we found a stack of bedding on the dryer and a huge mass of sheets in the washer that had been washed but were left inside the washer. Similar story with towels. The coffee maker didn't work properly - we had to stand there and press the start button 4 or 5 times to get a full pot of coffee. The sink drain in the kitchen was clogged. One of the toilets upstairs had a post-it note on it saying "do not use, plumber has been called." The vertical blinds throughout the house were broken, or were missing slats. One night it rained steadily and the roof leaked into the upstairs bedroom and onto the middle of the deck. Most of the deck furniture was ripped and rusty and the table and umbrella on the outdoor deck platform was knocked over and into the weeds. The place was advertised with a view of the ocean from the upper bedroom window which was not true. The bedroom window was so filthy you couldn't see anything out of it. The dining room chairs were unstable and one was broken. I could go on..........the place is run down and nothing like the surrounding properties. We made the best of it and took pictures of everything. We called the owner for a refund but haven't received anything yet. We would not recommend this property.

Beautiful property and location - significant neglect

This is a beautiful property in an spectacular location suffering from significant neglect: the patio was filthy and half the furniture broken and rusty, there was no fire pit, the walk to the beach was so steep we had to sit and slide, there were no screens on half the windows and sliding doors, no rails on the uneven steps up to the house. Despite these concerns, we were able to enjoy our two-week stay, but we would not go back.

Perfect spot for sunsets & dolphins

We had a lovely stay with our lab Eva. Sunsets and dolphins almost every day. It is not the place for small kids or the physically compromised. Some furnishing on the deck needs replacing as the deck itself could use some upkeep but there is no better place to be at sunset. We’d go again in a heartbeat.

Amazing view!

This is what we were looking for - amazing bay view, sunsets, beach access, dog friendly. Alfred was very responsive. 4 stars as the house needs repairs, the spacing of the rails on staircase inside and deck outside is quite wide and dangerous for small children. My kids loved it though, especially the ping pong table and all the model ships & lighthouses.

The location and drama of the house is fantastic but it could be in better shape.

Beautiful, comfortable and with the best views of the beach, sea and sunsets. Great kitchen equipment. The house needed some repairs and better cleaning but once fixed, this is a magical place for a vacation. The host is very nice and responsive.

Nice Getaway Weekend

The house is in an amazing location with great sunset views. The owner was very accommodating and let us bring our 8.5 year old golden retriever, who had a great time running on the beach. The fireplace kept us warm on the colder nights. Overall, easy process and will be back.

Amazing views

There were quite a few problems with communication but I believe there was a problem with VRBO not the owner of the house. Once I finally got a hold of him he went above and beyond to make this trip possible for me. Thank you once again for helping us out! We had a great time. A much needed little get away in this crazy time we are living in. Wish we were still there!
