About this property
33 Carolina Lan: High Design Loft on Historic Downtown Alley + Free Parking
Over 1,300 square-feet and two loft bedrooms, 33 Carolina Lane – a block once dedicated to agricultural industry, today a multi-cultural gathering spot – offers modern amenities and industrial design, with just the right touch of history: Curated artwork and pops of color, designer furnishings and massive flat-screen TVs, exposed ducts and lofted ceilings – all, in perfect balance with wizened walls and striking wood floors, layered with the patina of the past.
FAST, LOCAL SERVICE
Customer service is the cornerstone of our business. We know it begins with your very first email and doesn’t stop until you’ve checked out, a smile on your face.
So, here’s our promise: You’re our priority. We want you to have a fantastic time in Asheville and at 33 Carolina Lane. That’s why we’re 100% local – just minutes away, should the need arise! – and almost always available. We respond to any request within 3 hours (and usually, much sooner). We promise, we won’t leave you hanging.
And that means, no vacation rental nightmares. If you’re locked out, we’re there! If the washing machine breaks down mid-wash, we’re there! Or, if you’re just desperate for a restaurant recommendation, we’re also there. Just a call away, whenever you need us.
Bottom line: We know that the details – the big AND small details – are what count. They can make or break your vacation. So, we’re committed. Committed to you and your Asheville experience. (Reviews don’t lie!)
We look forward to welcoming you to Asheville!
If you’ve ever wandered through downtown Asheville, then you’ve felt the wanderlust (and “wonder-lust)” of this historic warren.
Here, connecting two of the city’s most sought-after streets – W. Walnut and Woodfin/Hiawassee – Carolina Lane is a quiet (for the city) alley, long known to the real Asheville. This is where Oscar winning actress Frances McDormond conspicuously smoked her cigarettes after a day of filming in the area and industry once reigned. And this neighborhood? Well, it’s still a place where restaurants go unadvertised and the best bars have no signs, just a door. A place where high-end art galleries about record shops, upscale shoe stores, and more.
And, while Real Life may be about compromise – sacrifice This to get That – we believe that vacation should be a special time. A time you get both This and That, no compromise required.
33 Carolina Lane is your no-compromise-required destination: both urban and urbane, situated right in the beating heart of our vibrant city. Enveloped by the energy and excitement of downtown life, Unit 33 Carolina Lane embodies and embraces the Asheville scene – a scene that draws designers and artists, creatives and music lovers, foodies and artisanal beverage aficionados alike.
Here’s what awaits:
Dining: Asheville is a food-and-drink dream – there’s a reason Livability named us a Top 10 Foodie City! – and from 33 Carolina, you’re just minutes to much of your must-eat list, including Rhubarb, Curate, Table, Laughing Seed, Posana, Wicked Weed and Mamacita’s.
Shopping: Royal Peasantry and Earth Magick are one street over, while Honeypot Vintage, the Downtown Asheville Tea Room, and Hip Replacements Clothing, among other must-see shops, are located just around the block.
Urban Trail Art Tour: Art lovers, put yourself right in the center of Asheville’s Urban Trail, a 1.7-mile walking tour home to 30+ stops at creative landmarks, public sculptures, dioramas, and more.
Festivals: From Downtown After Five (once a month, in summer) and the Lexington Avenue Arts Fest, to Drum Circle and Art in the Park, downtown Asheville, Lexington Avenue, and the River Arts District are ripe with arts, culture, and creative pursuits.
Chicken Alley: Stray chickens no longer roam downtown Asheville, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pay a visit to historic Chicken Alley, just behind 33 Carolina Lane.
Unbeatable Downtown Location
Don’t come all the way to Asheville, only to stay in the outskirts. 33 Carolina Lane is located on a one-way alley in the absolute heart of downtown, neighbor to the city’s best shopping, dining, drinking, and culture. Walk score: 91 – a Walker’s Paradise!
Striking Design
From exposed brick and combed-concrete walls, to preserved wood floors and custom artwork, 33 Carolina Lane has carefully curated a smorgasbord of unique Asheville flavor: modern yet historically present, industrial but warm.
Upscale amenities
From a 50-inch TV in the living room (and a 50-inch TV in the master) to the kitchen’s gas stove and a full washer/dryer, 33 Carolina Lane offers modern amenities rarely found in historic downtown.
Easy Parking
You don’t need a car at 33 Carolina Lane but if you bring one, you’ll be happy to know that parking is easy to find, with one free space included in your stay, along with convenient nearby parking decks and on street metered parking for a second vehicle.
Fast WiFi
Go on, upload that Asheville selfie! With fast WiFi, you’re as connected as you want to be.
No Stairs
Don’t want to climb stairs? No problem – there aren’t any here.
Locally Managed
There’s nothing like having a local in your back pocket. Unless, it’s having an on-call local in your back pocket! From our favorite no-signage spots to late-night emergencies, our 100% local service delivers both a great experience and peace of mind.
2 King Beds / 1 Full Bath 1,300 sq. ft Private Residential Loft + One Free Off Street Parking Space a block away
Well, you’ve found it.
Welcome to the Holy Grail of Asheville travel: A 2BR loft in the heart of downtown’s shopping district, yet cloaked within the confines of a one-way alley. Quiet (for the city). Historic. Central. The very essence of Asheville’s local core.
This is everyday life, as it’s always been lived. This is Asheville life, as you want to live it.
Because, in a city of micro-neighborhoods, 33 Carolina Lane is exactly where and what you want it to be: A historic building, renewed to industrial-chic design standards. A spacious loft, with enough privacy for two couples. A slice of history, ripe for your experience.
Outside your lime-green front door, downtown Asheville awaits. Step into your own little alley, and you’re just steps from the beating heart of Asheville’s dining, shopping, and cultural scene. From speakeasies and fine dining, to hip shopping and year-round festivals, 33 Carolina Lane puts you within walking distance of all things Asheville.
Yes, you’ve definitely found it. Welcome!
Industrial Loft-Chic Design
In a word, 33 Carolina Lane is curated.
Recently renovated and professionally designed, this home is not quite like anything you’ve ever experienced before. Layered over a patina of history – agricultural industry once reigned on Carolina Lane – the loft is a perfect balance of old and new, past and present.
Combed concrete walls share space with decades-old doors. Timeworn wood floors support modern furnishings. Industrial windows are now layered with reflective privacy mirroring.
And every detail has been hand-picked, curated, and carefully chosen: We have rummaged through estate sales, researched Asheville history, and requested custom pieces, to create a space that speaks to Asheville and to you.
This is your home-away-from home. A 2-bedroom loft thickly layered in texture, color, and legacy. And always, with a nod to modern expectations: A gas stove. Two TVs (60” and 50”) – and each bedroom, with private TV viewing. A washer/dryer. Handpicked local art. A custom headboard. Details, everywhere.
33 Carolina Lane is where modern meets old world, and it couldn’t be any more Asheville. This is the perfect complement to your downtown experience.
Easy Parking
The Loft includes one free off-street designated parking space one block away in a private parking lot.
When it comes to parking, 33 Carolina Lane could just as easily be name Easy Street: parking here is simple! And that’s exactly how it should be, when you’re on vacation.
You don’t need a car to enjoy downtown Asheville (our walk score: 93!), but if you bring one, here are your options:
Guests staying at the loft have access to one free designated off street parking space about one block away. Yay!
Additional Parking Options in Parking Lots & Decks: Both the City of Asheville and Buncombe County operate safe, reliable and inexpensive parking decks. The first half hour is free and the full-day rate is just $20, so feel free to leave a second vehicle overnight. There are several parking decks, as well as a few paid parking lots – pay from your phone with PassportParking app, or by space / cash at the kiosk box (ask us for more details, if you need them) – within walking distance of 33 Carolina Lane; we’ll send all the details with your booking confirmation.
On-Street Parking: While the road just in front of the loft is a loading zone, shimmy just a few feet toward W. Walnut and you can find on-street parking (per availability). Additionally, there are more than 700 on-street metered parking spaces in downtown Asheville. All meters are for short-term parking (two hours or less, as marked), at a cost of $1.50 per hour. On-street metered parking is free on holidays, Sundays, and every day after 6 pm.
Loading Zones: If you’re arriving via taxi, Uber, or Lyft, feel free to unload in one of Asheville’s dedicated loading zones, limited to 30 minutes (or less, as marked).

About the host

Growing up Santa Fe, NM I saw a unique blend of artistic community, endless outdoor opportunities, interesting history, beautiful landscapes, and a diverse mix of cultures.
Though far from Santa Fe and a different climate, I arrived in Asheville in the early 90’s to practice Chinese Medicine and felt some of the same elements at play. Asheville was not well known, but you could feel the energy building and the mixture of art, landscape, environment, history and community all coming together. It reminded me of my ‘early days’ in Santa Fe. One of my closest friends was Andy Brokmeyer, who I told for several years that he needed to come to Asheville, as it was a dynamic and exciting place. We were also avid kayakers, and Asheville has been a Mecca for kayaking since the early days of the sport so I knew I could lure him out with the promise of all the great rivers in the area.
He came out ‘for a visit’ and hasn’t left. That was 16 years ago.
Asheville has grown into the most happening place in the region, far beyond my expectations, and has sustained an authentic, community oriented and dynamic quality. Like my dad used to say about few places, it has ‘cultural energy’.
