Ideal for family holidays, this 15th century chateau is located in the heart of a 170 hectare park. Restored with care, it will seduce you with its luxurious character and comfort, but without ostentation.
A castle is not a house like any other. We live there perhaps more intensely than elsewhere ...
We entrust you with the keys, sure that your experience as a squire will be an enchantment!
The family of Guillaume de Ransanne owned this castle in the 15th century during the reign of Louis XI. For centuries, the estate has seen several members of the nobility succeed one another, including the Chevalier de Ransanne, in charge of the greyhounds of the king.
The house was very degraded when we adopted it in the 1990s. The 2000s were the years of revival for this sleepy castle which housed the owls! Our love of stones guiding our steps, as well as the wise advice of the Conservation of Historic Monuments, we took up a great challenge! It took two years of scaffolding and ten years of work. High quality old materials were used to restore the stones, frames, woodwork, locks ... And the heating was installed.
Today, the great comfort and softness of the place would almost make us forget this incredible odyssey.
The Ransanne castle is a privileged place to meet up with the family. It can accommodate up to 16 people including 6 people in comfortable and very nicely furnished outbuildings.
The park of the domain is composed of a flowered garden, a rose garden, several hundreds of old varieties of apple, pear, plum, cherry trees…
Take a stroll down to the river, or to the property's pond, passing by the unique collection of maple trees we just planted.
The chateau, very comfortable, offers various beautiful rest areas.
The Gothic living room, very spacious, allows you to meet at the corner of its monumental stone fireplace, dating from 1480.
Unless you prefer the cozy lounge furnished in the 18th century by a noble Irishman, captain, Mac Nemara. Adorned with wood paneling, this "cozy" living room contrasts with the previous one, which it completes admirably.
Ideal for reading, it is also a living room equipped with a 1.70m flat screen TV and a DVD player, hidden in its wood paneling.
The spiral staircase leading to the magnificent bedrooms is made of dressed stone.
It evokes a fan that unfolds elegantly. Climbing its steps, discover its breathtaking rooms by their dimensions (70 to 80m2) and the quality of their decor, each one being carefully furnished with antique wardrobes and chests of drawers, charming little armchairs and equipped with a large fireplace. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, each of which has its own personality. Again, you will be seduced by their crazy charm that does not sacrifice anything for comfort.
Description of the bathrooms:
At the first level:
The Venetian bathroom, whose blue tone highlights the white Carrara marble, offers a large bathtub and two basins topped with Venetian mirrors. Madame will take pleasure in her toilet, comfortably installed in front of the dressing table, all in white marble, placed in front of a window. By shaving, sir, you will appreciate the high quality modular lighting. A magnificent tassel chandelier beautifully complements the decoration of this room.
The “snail” bathroom, dedicated to the apricot bedroom, is surprising! You enter its large central shower via a spiral corridor with mosaics in light tones, dramatizing the discovery of a splendid nickel fitting with all the comfort elements: rain shower head, independent hand shower, thermostatic mixer and six jets side.
At the second level
The royal bathroom shows walls coated with powdered pink lime, decorated with freehand frescoes, inspired by the Italian Renaissance. An old-fashioned "lion's feet" claw-foot bathtub sits in majesty in the center of the room, while allowing a view of the linden garden.
Two basins and a beautiful shower with beautiful nickel fittings generously complete the set.
The fruity bathroom lives up to its name with its yellow ocher, terracotta and green tones. The tiles that make up the decor are inspired by the Palace of the Popes of Avignon. Immerse yourself in its large bathtub with soft curves, and let yourself be lulled by the song of the birds. Two beautiful basins with generous marble stone shelves will welcome your toiletries, even many!
The Poitou-Charentes region offers an exceptional architectural, historical and natural wealth. Between land and sea, it has all the assets to seduce you permanently.
The chateau is located in the center of the Charente-Maritime department, an ideal starting point for a host of excursions. It is easy to take advantage of the beaches to then return to this sweet and calm retreat. The three islands of Oléron, Aix and Ré are very close.
The old port of La Rochelle is less than an hour away. Bordeaux is only an hour from the motorway.
About ten kilometers away, the town of Saintes offers all the shops and every day, a generous market with wonderful colors and flavors welcomes you.
Several schools of fish from our coasts await you, not forgetting oysters and shellfish, tasty vegetables, Pineau des Charentes and Charente pancake among the many regional specialties.
Very good tables are the pride of Saintes and its surroundings, do not hesitate to ask us for our good addresses.
On the heritage side, visit the Gallo-Roman amphitheater, from the 1st century, or the Romanesque church of Saint-Eutrope, name of the first bishop of Saintes. It is an important stage in the pilgrimage to Compostela. The sculpted decor of the Romanesque crypt and capitals are among the most interesting in Saintonge.
Finally, the beautiful Abbaye aux Dames and its classical music festival reserve you beautiful emotions every year.
If you want to prepare small organic dishes, you can have fresh fruit and vegetables delivered by farmers from the region. Or simply, if you don't want to cook, you can use a caterer.
It is also possible to hire a babysitter.
