Charming Island Cottage by the Sea

WELCOME to Guemes Island! Only 90 minutes north of Seattle. It's your fun island getaway! Be lazy. Beachcomb for agates. Watch the parade of boats and marine life from your lawn chair. Roast marshmallows from the beach. Gaze the starlit sky. Bike on quiet island country roads. Climb Mt Guemes. Do lots...or Do nothing. Guemes Island is an easy, scenic 1.5 hours drive north of Seattle ending in a 5-minute "convertible" ferry ride from downtown Anacortes. It's a WONDERFUL getaway!

Our island cottage offers a 950+ square feet of comfort and fully stocked for all your needs and has several easy beach accesses. The cottage is perfect for intimate gatherings--or may be rented with the main house (sleeps up to 13 more guests). Its open-design concept is inviting and homey, the living room opens up to two sleeping areas with two queen beds (a third queen bed is in upstairs loft with lounging area). A doorway opens into the dining with a table expandable for six and a full-sized kitchen with stainless appliances (gas cooktop/oven, microhood, dishwasher, large fridge). The kitchen is well equipped with coffeemaker, toaster, blender and oven toaster. Also on the main level is a large bathroom with 48" custom-tiled shower and full-size washer and dryer. There's additional sleeping in the partially enclosed loft, accessed by a "treehouse" ladder-style staircase (please take caution due to its steepness). The loft features a queen futon bed and on the other side is a play/lounging area; the loft has a sloped ceiling, about 6 feet tall in the middle to 4 feet at the edge. We are happy to share this enchanting cozy wood-paneled cottage with you!

PLEASE NOTE: Guemes Island Ferry will have passengers-only (no vehicles) service from February 27 through March 19, 2023. Parking is free. Skagit Transit operates shuttle bus service on-island for ferry riders.

EXPAND YOUR LODGING
Main Beach House offers 4,000 square feet of pleasure and relaxation (sleeps 13), plus a fantastic Games Parlor! Main House with Games Parlour may be booked separately (VRBO Listing #1046080), please inquire. Main beach house may be occupied by other guests during your stay.

Please note: Driveway is shared by all guests, with dedicated parking spaces, respecting for physical distancing. Beautiful experience

Great location. Loved setting on the patio and visiting. The experience staying on the island was so fun. And we were just getting the ferry scheduled handles. Haha.

Almost Great!

This little hide away has great potential. On the surface it was nice, you know? Beautiful kitchen, all utensils, quiet location- on the beach. But,.. landscaping had been ignored. There was a hole in the deck, so I couldn’t reach yummy blackberries, & slugs & spiders everywhere. The deposit was $1900! A little steep for 2-3. nights in a cabin. Then, my husband left his pants & shirt in a closet. The charge for returning it was $75 plus $40 shipping. 😮 Maybe that’s reasonable price, I thought it was too high. Great little store/ restaurant, check their hrs., they fluctuate. Ferry was easy & fast. Cabin was pretty clean but needed new shower curtain, toilet seat, ( soft close), & wood railings up the stairs had sharp- points where they were fastened to the wall. They should be filed down or covered w/ something. Very cool idea, and upstairs is super fun. Kids would dig it! 8 yrs & up? A lot of parent supervision needed to set safety rules. Manager- owner? was very nice to deal with. 👍

Will be back!!

Beautiful property, great appliances and wll sticked kitchen supplies. welcome wine/meat and cheese tray nice touch! Nice furnishings, bedding! Close to ferry- the general store was fun/had live music. There were some minor issues with deck area (bees, hole in one board- over grown plant with sharp stickers). No direct view of ocean from inside, minimal on porch - no access to view or beach if house is rented- we were there few days before house rented so were able to enjoy beach and view!!

Great location, awesome small home

This small home shares property with a larger home, which was occupied part of the time we were there. The waterfront itself was not available while the larger home was rented. Daughter and I were impressed with the home's cleanliness and updated kitchen and bath. Kitchen was well equipped, and there are 3 comfortable beds. Host was communicative. We had a wonderful time and have already talked about returning.

Extra Space

We added this guest cottage to our reservation for the main house and it gave us - 12 family members - plenty of room to spread out. Everything about this property was perfect - location, space, accessibility of host.

Dandy guest house

We had the guest house in addition to the main house for our family holiday gathering. It provided a lovely little space for extra sleepers and a quiet respite from the chaos of the main house. The kitchen here is well appointed, and the cozy place stands alone as a dandy little rental.

Magical slice of heaven

As Tahoe evacuees from the fires we sought clean air and found it on a beautiful stay in the San Juans! The difficult communication was an app issue and not the owner's. I had to bring my dog and was charged $400 additional to the regular cleaning which I felt was extreme for this tiny place. I discussed with the owner prior to my stay, but we needed to find a place and didnt have many options. The property is still a work-in-progress in terms of the yard and some of the interior finishes, but the welcome package was super nice and very much appreciated!!!!! Oh , please note, the island is only available by ferry and the $20 charges every time you leave the island adds up pretty quickly. The last ferry runs at 8:30 p.m which we were not aware of and missed our 1st night stay and had to stay in a small hotel on the other side of the ferry run. There is nothing on Guemes but a small general store that has the most basic provisions and a delicious little restaurant with a phenomenal bakery.

Great little place

We enjoyed our stay! Kitchen was great, plenty of space in the house, just as described. Welcome treats were fun! The property has a split A/C unit, which was not listed in the description, but was nice to have for the loft area which tends to be warmer.

Great Cottage

We rented both properties for our larger group, and this house was a great addition…well-appointed, with all the amenities of the larger home (laundry, full kitchen, TV) and ample sleeping space. Nice decor, with a couple of outdoor spaces for private relaxation. Very peaceful.

Cozy cottage on Guemes Island

The cottage was absolutely perfect for the two of us. It's well equipped for cooking, relaxing, and watching movies -- all of which we did. The beds and couches were very comfortable, too. We'd love to return, post-COVID & forest fires, so we can enjoy more of the outdoors and kayaking.

Relaxing Retreat - with 1 maintenance need to address

We enjoyed our stay. The cottage was clean and very well equipped. The patio was perfect for enjoying meals outside, and beach access was close, as described. Our kids loved the goats. As described in the listing, the stairs are steep, so caution is especially needed with children, but everything else was perfect for kids (outdoor toys and kid chairs, indoor toys, high chair). Trung was very responsive. I do want to note that there was an issue with the septic and connected drain field (raised grassy area by goats). Water visibly bubbled up out of the drain field and was very stinky. Trung was responsive when we notified him of this, and he said all toilet water goes to a different holding tank that is not connected to the drain field. Our young children had played on this grass when we arrived, which caused worry when we later realized there was a septic issue. We avoided the area after that, but feel we needed to note this so others have the option to avoid playing in this area and can inquire before arriving whether this issue has been inspected by a licensed professional and addressed appropriately. We would love to stay here again when the septic issue is fixed.

Wonderful Escape

This place was exactly what we were hoping for. Well kept, modern yet rustic, beautiful landing pad for our rest and relaxation in between hiking excursions. Oh, and far enough from dense civilization that we felt like we were still socially distancing ourselves. And the place was immaculate, which helped us feel safe. Trung was Johnny on the Spot any time I had a question about the property. Very friendly and helpful. What we might miss most of all though are the two goats, Biscuit and Bambi. We forged quite a friendship with them and they loved the carrots we bought for them. In short, in this crazy time, my wife and I were unsure of how we could get out and have an enjoyable vacation, and we found it here.

Magical Guemes Island Wedding!

We rented both the main house & the guest cottage as the “family compound” for our daughter’s destination wedding over on West Shore Road. We had an amazing week with perfect weather for our extended family of 12 people at the South Shore home. Very well set-up for a large group. The dining table & kitchen nook were excellent meal time gatherings spots - and the back patio morning views with coffee was breathtaking! Weather allowed us great evening sunsets, horseshoe matches with some relaxing wine around the fire pit. The Weber gas BBQ provided the perfect meals - and everything you could imagine was available in the kitchen. Bonus was the game room for an occasional pool & air hockey tournament. The location was perfect and so easy to get to the General Store & Ferry ... make sure you do the Guemes Mtn hike - killer views. We would highly recommend a week here for your next family vacation!

We love living in the Northwest for its abundance of natural beauty—the mountains, the shores, the waters. We are particularly fond of Anacortes, as its a portal to the San Juans and its easy to get to, and we find Guemes Island is part of those island beauties (only without the long ferry lines!).

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this beach house, it's great for relaxing, quiet and plenty of fun things to do for all ages. It has an incredible 180 degrees southern uninterrupted views of Fidalgo Island, the Guemes Channel and San Juan passage—great spot to watch the parades of pleasure crafts, tugs and tankers. Lots of warmth and natural light! And we love the "island wave", folks living here are so thoughtful and kind and sharing, a wonderful community to be a part of! And we are thrilled to share it all with you.

What makes this property unique

Beach, boats watching, easy access to local festivals, wonderful bike rides and hikes. Optional for rent is the main beach house featuring a Games Parlor with foosball, air hockey, billiards table, darts and outdoor bocce ball court.
