We love our stay in comfortable house with peaceful view. Wonderfully stocked kitchen and place very clean and quiet. Only issue is driveway could be graded better Would definitely come back
We came with our family of 5 plus my Mom and had a wonderful time. The views were incredible and the home was very charming. We will definitely be back to Highlands soon!
The views from the back deck are spectacular and the house is beautifully decorated with many updates. And of course, the location, just a half mile from town, is perfect! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Great location to disappear for a few days. Classic soft Mountain Views in a unique eclectic neighborhood with narrow winding streets perfect for daily walks. Five minutes from Main Street and local grocery with a five star wine selection.
The Williams house is warm , elegant with Great views
We will rent this property again! Delightful family vacation for us, great views from
Porch! comfortable clean elegant , home close to town. It has it all!
Up in the Highlands for a wedding. We enjoyed our two night stay. Beautiful house up high on the hill with great views of the changing fall seasonal colors. Took a nice walk into town on Saturday for shopping and attending the wedding that evening. Would recommend it to others and would stay there again if visiting the Highlands.
This was an amazing location to easily walk in to town with beautiful views!! You cannot find many rental properties this close proximity to downtown Highlands with spectacular views. The kitchen was also well stocked with good knives, pots and pans, and cooking essentials.
Breathtaking views from the living area and deck. The house is very nicely decorated and well-appointed, and is convenient to downtown Highlands. The owner, Susannah, was responsive and accomodating. The driveway can be a little tricky at first to back into/out of, especially if you have multiple vehicles, but is easily navigated after a time or two.
We had a wonderful time in this beautiful home with breathtaking views. We saw deer, beavers and many species of birds outside our window. We walked to town a couple of days and explored the beauty of Highlands,NC. The owners were extremely helpful and quick to resolve any hiccups along the way. We will definitely return to make more memories in this beautiful home.
Unbeatable views, great location and modern, pristine home
We had a fantastic six night stay. The views of the mountains from the living space and expansive deck are incredible. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and updated. It was the best equipped kitchen I have ever had in a vacation rental. The appliances are new. It was a very short drive into town. Some days are teens walked into town. We will definitely be back.
Beautiful view and great location but those are the only two positive attributes to this property unfortunately for our family. If you are traveling with small children that need supervision this is not the rental for you. We spent nearly our entire vacation ensuring our child was safe. The spaces in between the railings on the back porch and stairs are far too wide and would be surprised if they are up to code. A small child could easily slip through if you were not paying attention. There are also large spaces outside that a small child could slip and fall down the mountain. As a mother, this was externally nerve racking all week for our family. There are three levels of stairs which also need to be blocked for small children. I wish it notated somewhere on the description “ not suitable for families with small children,” and I hope this review helps future new families find another location to rent. Regarding the property in general, it is in need of major TLC. There are NO Televisions in this rental outside of one single outdated TV on the second floor. So if you are looking to watch TV on the main floor or in your bedrooms, you are out of luck. The furniture is weathered and quite frankly unacceptable. The furniture in the TV room was outdoor furniture, which was appalling. The beds have steel frames that our group constantly hit our heads on. Cabinets in the kitchen, which from the pictures look remodeled had to be from the original build. The carpet was stained. The closet doors did not slide properly and there were no hangers in the entire property. Honestly, I could go on and on but the house just needs to be gutted. For the price you pay, we were expecting more and are disappointed. Wonderful trip to the Highlands but will never stay at this property again.
This is a beautiful property that is as good as the pictures. Beautifully furnished, with a great view.
Guests understand that sometimes issues happen to homes rented on VRBO. They judge hosts based on how quickly they resolve the issues and how fairly they treat the guests that had their vacations interrupted. We had problems, the owner didn't quickly resolve the problem or fairly compensate for the problems.
I checked in late on Saturday and the home was very warm. I opened up all the windows. Sunday I was out all day. When I returned Sunday evening, the property was 88 degrees inside and humid, like a spa. I messaged to the owner, then when there was no reply I messaged again, then a third time.
You know there's a problem when the Air Conditioning's not working during a heat wave and the owner replies " I wished you had texted me or David who is the other owner in the house. I have been in Europe and got back late last night and just seeing these emails. I was in Amsterdam when I responded about the broken screens. We will call the HVAC company asap."
There was no other owner listed in the contact information on the app and I communicate by the VRBO app, not text.
Two more days of hot humid days & nights and finally an appointment for an HVAC vendor on the last day, but there was just one catch. I received a message after 11am that the HVAC vendor would be arriving between 2 and 4. "I gave them instructions to get the key from the lockbox in case you are not there so please make sure that the key is there so they can get in". The owner doesn't have a contractors key on the property. I was 2 hours away at an outing and had to cancel my plans to return to the house to let the HVAC vendor in.
The owner promised on the third day "for the inconvenience, we will give you some credit off your stay". After I checked out the owner responded "Based on the timeline of events and the unseasonably warm temperatures which resulted in the HVAC companies service call backlog, we are comfortable with extending one night credit. I have already this credit back for $400 through VRBO to you."
Availiable restaurants were in short supply, particularly Sunday and Monday nights. The six of us ate more eggs than we wanted. Entering and exiting the driveway with our large rented SUV was more challenging and dangerous than we expected. Overall experience was fantastic. The view was, by far, the highlight.
This lovely property has wonderful views of multiple mountain ridges from the spacious deck and all bedrooms. The indoor space itself is nicely laid out and has a clean, open, uncluttered feel which we really enjoyed. The convenience to downtown Highlands is another plus.

Great location! Bad check-in.
The first thing I will say is this home is perfect if you don't want to drive much during your stay in Highlands. It is just a couple minutes drive from downtown and no curvy roads.
The house was beautiful and comfortable and was perfect for our stay.
The main issue we had was checking in. I never received any check-in information and just figured when the time got closer, it would be added. Two hours before our arrival, there was still no check-in information, so I did message the host to ask about it and did not received a response.
We arrived at around 5pm that evening (check-in time is 3pm so the host had PLENTY of time) and we still did not have any check-in information. We unexpectedly had no cell service at all at the house (and really anywhere in Highlands) so I could not get VRBO to load to try to get contact info for the host. We drove down the road a ways until we got some service, found the phone number for the host, and called. There was no answer, so I left a voicemail. I then began to call VRBO to see if they could assist. While waiting for VRBO to answer, I decided to call the host again from wife's phone. No answer. At this point, I am angry and immediately called the host again. He sent a text saying that he was unable to answer, so we responded saying that we were trying to get into the home we rented from him and had no check-in instructions. He then sent a text and a VRBO message with that information and a very short and simple "Sorry for the inconvenience."
Well, to me he didn't seem very sorry at all and seemed to not care that we finally got into the home 3-4 hours after the 3pm check-in time.
There are a couple of things I want to mention. One, there is a Nest smart thermostat and the note in the home says to leave the AC around 77 during the summer. To me, and most people I think, that is just plain hot. I turned it down while we were there constantly, but it seemed to eventually revert back to the schedule it runs. I turned it down to around 70 at night. Yes, I disregarded the note from the host, but there is no way I can sleep comfortably with it so warm. Two, there are SO many light switches and they are not labelled. You will spend some time trying to figure out what turns on what. ALSO, and this is the bigger deal to me, the switches for the lights and fan in the bedroom are in the closet on a very hard to reach wall. It took me a while to find them to turn the fan on.
