Adventures at Geoffroy Farm
My husband, twin 10 year olds and 3 dogs arrived for a 3 week stay mid-October and ended up staying four months. Our new home was being built during Covid and the process was challenging at best. The Farm was welcoming and secure and we couldn’t have asked for more during our time there. Because of the pandemic, we were all working from home – even the kids were remote for a good period of time. There was plenty of room for us to all have our own working space. Although the satellite internet was not intended to support 4 people working at the same time, we added our own hot spot and it worked out just fine.
The house has all the kitchen equipment and accessories, including dishwasher, washer and dryer, linens, and everything you need to just show up. Indoor activities when it’s just too cold to go outside include the piano, lots of board games, satellite TV and internet and a PS1 video game on a giant TV/monitor. The rooms are big and the furniture comfy. The unbelievable mud room in the front of the house is just AMAZING for kids and all their stuff!
My kids enjoyed a unique experience, coming from city life, to “look after” the ducks for a time, the dwarf goats that they didn’t want to leave, and the sheep that were recently added to the mix. They gathered fresh duck eggs and fed the goats daily. They were free to run the property and during the biggest one day snow total in years, they zip lined in to giant piles of snow. The dogs were in heaven running through the woods with the kids. My husband took full advantage of the community fire pit, even in the snow, and the deck and grill due the fall evenings and weekends.
Rob is an unbelievably gracious host and Tony is on top of keeping everything running like clockwork - not an easy process with 3 units, 9 animals and all the native critters from the forest surrounding the rustic property. We experienced widespread power outages during a particularly ugly snow storm and they didn’t miss a beat. All winter, the driveway was plowed and the property accessible. Rob brought fresh fruit around on a regular basis. There are plenty of stores and restaurants close by, but not too close. Our now family favorite pub is walking distance at the end of the road.
If you’re looking to really get out of town, and embrace all that that entails, this is a great place. If you’re looking for “city life” surrounded by trees, this is not that. Technology is challenging, but possible if you’re wil
