Local Breweries in Mankato and Madelia. We recommend restaurants of La Plaza Fiesta, Mexican restaurant, The Fox Den, pizzeria both in Madelia.
Only 6 miles away in Lake Crystal there is Kevin's local grocery store, DQ, The Rocks Liquor store, The Lakes Bar and Grill. Also in Lake Crystal, public access to 2 lakes, Lake Crystal and Loon Lake.
Another great small town bar/restaurant in Good Thunder, The Thunder Bar.
The Red Jacket Valley Park is 9 miles away. Swimming, walking trails, and kayaking/canoeing. Located right next to the Red Jacket bike trail.
Minneopa State Park is 10 miles away. Attractions there are double waterfall, bison, hiking trails, and wildlife.
Minneopa Golf Course is 10 miles away, a bit further is Northlinks Golf Course in North Mankato and the Mankato Golf Club.
Mount Kato Ski Area is 10 miles away. Ski, snowboard and tubing in the winter and mountain biking in summer.
The Damn Store and Restaurant is 4 miles away, this is a quaint old-time restaurant near the Rapidan Damn and county park. This is also a great location to put your canoe or kayak in the Blue Earth River for a scenic trip downstream toward Mankato.
The area around Mankato has several paved bike trails, the closest is accessed in the small town of Rapidan, 6 miles away.
The area in the spring-fall have a variety of small-town or large city festivals and events,
If you are a youth sports team coming to the area for a tournament - our location is private, quiet and a great alternative to the hustle and bustle of a hotel atmosphere, and yet quickly accessible to the Mankato/North Mankato area.

This is the absolute perfect place to relax as a group. We came for a pool tournament and its nice to get away from the busy town and relax in this peaceful environment. Hosts are wonderful and easy to get ahold of if anything is needed.

Wonderful, relaxing stay

This was the perfect place for a quiet, relaxing getaway. We came with the intentions to ski at Mt. Kato but due to unseasonably warm temps that didn’t happen. But this is a perfect place to stay if looking to do so, close and spacious. The property is large and we were encouraged to explore it, this was a highlight for sure! There is also a playground for the kids and chickens. Inside there was plenty of space for our family of 5 to spread out and a variety of sleeping options. There were games and books but our favorite was the Cabin at Lowell seek and find book, very fun and unique. Carl and Ann were great hosts, easy to contact and gave good tips for the area. We enjoyed Minneopea State Park, Mom & Pop’s ice cream in Mankato and a beer at Lost Sanity brewery. We hope to make it back for some actual skiing this winter!

Spacious clean home in nature!

We had a wonderful stay at your place! There was plenty of space and look forward to coming back with my parents! We noticed that the home is handicap accessible, which will be very handy in the future! Loved having the freedom to roam the property outdoors as well! Thanks so much!

Great Stay

Nice quiet place. Owners are kind. The place was very unique and comfortable. Cooking with a gas oven was a forst for me, but got the hang of it. Really liked how remote it is. Short drive to Mt. Kato and Mankato.

Memory Making Thanksgiving

The Cabin at Lowell was the perfect setting for our 4 generation Thanksgiving get together. The generous sized bedrooms and loft area were exactly as pictured and gave each family there own space. The two bathrooms were well stocked with wonderfully fluffy bath towels, hand towels and washcloths. The handicap accessible 1st floor bathroom was especially appreciated by my elderly parents. The kitchen is completely stocked with all of the amenities you'd find in your own home plus more! It was a delight to play familiar board and card games which provided. Nestled just south of Mankato the Cabin at Lowell was very convenient. Even though it was cold outside, that did not deter my 4 year old great nephew from finding joy using the swingset, merry-go-round and visiting the chicken coop and waving at the resident horses! Carl and Ann were very gracious and attentive hosts. We hope to gather as an extended family again at the Cabin at Lowell.

Fabulous Stay

We had everything we needed and more: fans, binoculars, extra blankets, fire pit, and so much more! Everything was very clean and organized. The land around the cabin was so spacious and beautiful to walk around. It’s such a peaceful and relaxing area, and Carl and Ann were so kind. I plan to keep it in mind for future friends and/or family getaways.

Fabulous Family Fun

WOW! By far one of the best properties and homes we have visited in the past 10 years. Secluded property, wildlife, scenery and location met all our expectations. And the chickens are so very fun! The cabin is spacious and comfortable. One of the best stocked kitchens of many rentals, which is very appreciated since we like to eat in for breakfasts and dinners. Ann and Carl are very gracious and friendly while respecting our privacy. We took advantage of suggested local businesses including the Lakes Sports Bar & Grill in Lake Crystal and Lost Sanity Brewing in Madelia - both very good! Schell's Brewery in New Ulm is not far and Younger Brothers capture site in Madelia was an interesting historic site. We will definitely return to the Cabin in Lowell.

Hidden gem!

We had the most amazing time staying at The Cabin at Lowell! Carl and Ann (and their daughter!) are the most personable and courteous hosts we have encountered in all of our travels. The cabin was immaculately clean and generously stocked with towels (so plush!), bedding, dinnerware, and cookware. The screened in porch was our favorite place to be as we could watch and listen to the birds (chickens included) and enjoy the outside air and views. The property is SO interesting! There are a variety of animals to view and plenty of mowed paths to explore. While the owners tend to the animals during the day, they leave you do to your own thing. Or, if you prefer, they are happy to tell you stories of the cabin, the land, and the animals. This place offers an enjoyable escape. We have never stayed more than once at any vacation rental as we prefer to experience different places. However, we are already planning another stay. Thank you Carl and Ann for your hospitality and for making our visit to The Cabin at Lowell so enjoyable and relaxing! We look forward to seeing you again!

Mankato trip

We had a great trip to Mankato. The house was beautiful and clean, with so many fun details. The property itself was wonderful. The kids loved the playground equipment and being able to watch the chickens. The location was ideal for visiting Mankato and Minneopa state park. The hosts were friendly and made checking in and out a breeze. Thanks for sharing such a unique property and we hope to return again.

Perfect little getaway

This was such a cute cabin with plenty of beds for everyone! The kitchen had all the dishes and utensils you would need. The hosts were very friendly and responded to any messages very quick. If you are looking for a place to getaway, this is perfect as it is in the countryside with a beautiful view! Just a note that there is very limited cell service out there, but they do have pretty good WiFi!

We live just a few minutes from the cabin and are available for questions or conversation. Ann is an early childhood educator, Carl is a general contractor. We enjoy spending time at our home, gardening, taking care of livestock, watching wildlife and feeding the birds.

Why they chose this property

Our property was plated to be a town in the mid 1800's - it was plated to be the town of Lowell. Thus, The Cabin at Lowell.
This property is located on a dead-end road and is very private, quiet yet close to the main highway if you would like to explore the region.
Beautiful scenery every season of the year.
