About this property

Wild Acres Yurt on 36 acres bordering 800 acres of perserve with a 300 acre pond

This 20' yurt sits in a private location on our 36 acre hobby farm. We border the 800 acre Kelly Wildlife Sanctuary with trails and a 300 acre pond.
The yurt has power, cold running water, A/C, induction cook top, freezer fridge, microwave, coffee maker, cookware, dishes, glasses, cutlery and silverware.
It contains a queen sized bed, full sized futon, air mattress, table/chairs, and a wood stove.
There is an enclosed private outdoor shower and the restroom is an outdoor port-o-potty.
There is a fire pit with seating.
Hot water can be heated on the cook top or small hot water heater. There is no indoor bathroom and the shower is outdoors.
There is a small outside deck and and an outdoor fire pit with seating. There are some mowed walking trails on the property and we border the 800 acre Earl Kelly Wildlife Preserve with a 300 acre pond and hiking trails.
We have goats and chickens which can be visited by guests by permission.
We allow dogs but no aggressive breeds. All dogs must be approved ahead of time. Doggy daycare is available at our discretion.
Guest can walk the 36 acres property and the adjacent 800 acres wildlife preserve.
The yurt has its own private driveway and is in a private setting. Sounds from our animals and children may be heard from time to time while staying at the yurt. If walking the property you may see goat fencing in some areas. Please assume all fencing is electrified.
We have a trail system that we mow but in wet seasons we can not mow all areas. The main trails leads right onto the Kelly Wildlife Preserve. It is a 15 to 20 min hike to the back side of the 300 acre Bog Pond where eagles soar and wildlife abounds. (If you are luck you just might see a moose..)
You can paddle in from an inlet just down the road (1 beaver dam to portage) and on most days have amazing pond all to yourself. No kidding.
The fishing is very good.

FANTASTIC

One of the best accommodations I've ever stayed in. The yurt is clean, comfortable, private, well outfitted and easy to find. Jamie thought of everything with regard to comfort, convenience, amenities, games, kitchen items, fire pit and more. There wasn't a single thing I needed that wasn't there. And his hand-crafted rustic furniture and decor add a special touch that makes the atmosphere cozy and inviting. A bonus was that the mattress was the most comfortable one I've ever stayed in. And the AC cooled better than expected (I was worried since it was warm and a yurt isn't insulated). Jamie was very helpful and responsive before and during my stay, which is was very much appreciated. And it was fun chatting with him when I met him on one morning walk with my dog. While there's no internet service specifically, cell service is robust and I was able to easily use my personal hotspot on my phone. My one caution is if you're a light sleeper, come prepared with ear plugs as the week-day commuter traffic is loud and starts super early. (Only reason for "location/neighborhood" reduced to 4 stars). Other than morning commute time, it's super peaceful. Would 100% return to this gem of a place. Thank you, Jamie, for creating and sharing such a wonderful place. 🙏

The yurt was well equipped and clean, the outdoor shower was excellent. Nice quiet neighborhood. The "porta potty" Could have been cleaner and better maintained. Nice trails on the property.

Night in a Yurt!

We had the loveliest stay. The amenities were wonderful as was the property itself. Appreciated the option for AC and there was even coffee available for our morning walking to the bog! Would absolutely recommend and stay again.

We loved this yurt!

Our family enjoyed our time at this secluded yurt. The yurt itself was great and well stocked with extra bedding and cooking supplies. The outdoor shower was one of the nicest outdoor showers I have ever used! Cell signal was good here (especially considering how sporadic cell signal can be in this region). Our only recommendation is to have a few more printed instructions available in the yurt (how to refill the water tank, what to do with trash, etc.). Communication with owner was quick.

Fun Stay with Great Service

What a fun stay - super clean Yurt and great communication. Family of four including two teenagers had a blast during short stay. Stove was ready for us to get a fire started to keep us warm. Yurt had everything we needed for an overnight along the way to Acadia.

Adventures in Yurting

We loved that this yurt property was an option to rent so close to the Good from the Woods event we attend annually at Oxbow Farmhouse Brewery in Newcastle. The bed was so comfortable! The yurt was cozy and had everything we needed for our little getaway. Good communication and easy check in. We will definitely book this with Jamie again!

Stay here!!

Wish we could've found a way to swing our trip in order to stay here longer. Loved the outdoor shower and it was super easy to use. Wood stove was a huge plus with the colder temps at night. Took us an extra pass when we were looking for the drive initially but found it fairly easily using google maps vs apple maps. If we can get back here we definitely will

Couples Getaway

The wife and I enjoyed a quite weekend of kayaking and nature walks. The road to the Dresdan reservoir was inaccessible but we were able to find a boat launch not to far away. The only criticisms I would have is that the garbage was not emptied from the previous occupants and the grass could have been mowed in the immediate area around the yurt.

Woodsy location

Fun little adventure. I was looking for a place for one night on the way to Bar Harbor. The yurt is about 25-30 min from much, but that was fine for us. The yurt was good size with a reasonably well stocked kitchen area. The outhouse was immaculate with no smell. The shower could use a little cleaning, and some directions, but we figured it out. The owner responded quickly to a couple of questions we had. Overall very much how it appears in the listing and a good value if you don’t want to break the bank.

Wake to the sounds of nature

This is a very cute and comfortable place to stay. Although the weather made our stay a bit soggy, we enjoyed our time in the yurt and a wet walk on the grounds. We had everything we needed for the weekend. We did not know until we got there that so much good food would be a close drive away, so we stocked up on groceries before arriving. Maybe next time we can enjoy the local digs!

Yurt week

Even during a rainy week, we had a great time in the Yurt. The water system worked great, and we were surprised with the hot propane shower. We did not find the drawn map of the area until our final day- it was folded up with takeout menus.. so our only advice would be to try and find that map earlier if you want to get oriented to the area (there were a couple spots I would have hit if time and weather had permitted). Plenty of games for the kids. Perhaps a warning for the entire state- but bug spray early and often. 40 minute drive from do many great day trips- Maine cabin masters near Hallowell, Boothbay, Freeport, and many other lovely towns- set out 30-40 mins in any direction, you can’t go wrong.

Great yurt!

We selected this yurt to stay in for a different kind of "camping" experience for our family (3 boys and my spouse and I). We all really enjoyed the yurt. The boys all wanted to try the outdoor shower in the morning, which was a great plus point for this mom :) The yurt had enough space for all of us - a queen bed, double-size futon for two boys and a blow up air mattress for the third. The porta potty was clean. We didn't have much time to explore the trails or lake, or the fire pit, but maybe next time...

A cozy retreat

Our overnight in Wild Acres Yurt was wonderful! The outdoor shower was hot and relaxing! The beds were so comfortable and cozy. The check in was easy. The ticks were not great…. But what are you going to do. Bring bug spray! All the bug spray! I really appreciated the coffee and left some shelf stable creamers for the next guests. Cooking was a little challenging because of lack of basic necessities. A little cooking oil would have been helpful! But overall it was lovely!

A sweet spot for a weekend getaway!

My wife, pup, and I loved staying in James's yurt. It was well-equipped and near a lovely reservoir with great hiking and paddling. The yurt itself was a bit closer to the road than I expected, which made it feel a bit less private and increased the noise a bit, but overall it was a very enjoyable stay and we will gladly return if we are in the area again.

Very cool accommodation for our one night stay. Comfortable, clean with everything as advertised. We were just looking for a place to crash for the night so we didn't take advantage of the walking trails or the lake.
