Quiet, pleasant place. The cabin was perfect for the two of us. Comfortable bed and pillows. Wildlife was nice. Apples were left on the table to feed the donkeys, Paco and Pancho. Delicious cookies were also left on the table for us humans! Guinea hens, chickens, and a beautiful peacock roamed freely but not bothersome.
Hosts Amy and Mike made us feel welcome! They are very service minded and wanted things to be perfect for the guests. Each morning we looked forward to good breakfast food and conversation with the hosts and other guests. We will definitely return.

The Writer's Cabin is magical! The hosts are so sweet and thoughtful. The cabin is cozy and decorated with family pictures and memorabilia. We were even treated to homemade cookies and a bowl full of apples to feed to the donkeys. The favorite parts of our stay were getting loved up by a little orange cat named Benji, feeding the donkeys, hearing the roosters, looking at all the decor, and ending our evenings rocking on the porch. Highly recommend and hope to return soon!
The hosts, Mike and Amy, were friendly and accomodating. The cabin was very well taken care of and clean. It was like having a comfy home away from home. Amy had the cabin cool for us when we got there. She had homemade cookies to greet us, as well. They were delicious. It was far enough away from town that it was peaceful and quiet, but not to far away to go eat and shop in the near-by towns. This is our second time to stay here and will not be our last.
The cabin was a wonderful set-up for coming home after the day out and about town. Saved us some travel time coming into/leaving town instead of driving to Fredericksburg (and cost effective too). The breakfasts were great, just need to be willing to wake up for meal time as there was one time with the hosts/other guests. Would stay again.

Really nice. Amy and Mike were wonderful and the cabin was truly a delight.
The Writer's Cabin on Amy and Michael's farm is a perfect getaway from the city. Perfect location in Johnson City with easy access to Fredericksburg, Marble Falls, and Pedernales Falls State Park. The cabin is clean and has more amenities than advertised. We were welcomed with homemake cookies! There is a small kitchenette and ample sized bathroom. Apples on the table are for the sweet donkeys. The best part of the stay is Amy and Michael's fresh hot breakfast each morning. We loved our visit and getting to know the history of the cabin. Cannot thank Amy and Michael enough for their hospitality.

Our stay in this unique hobby farm experience was a total delight! The Writer's Cabin was adorable, comfortable, clean, and memorable. It came with everything needed for our stay, and nice amenities included a coffee maker and supplies, homemade cookies, chilled bottled water, a bowl of fruit (including apples to feed the donkeys), microwave popcorn, and instant oatmeal. There was a nice desk if needed and wi-fi. My favorite amenity of all was the friendly orange tabby cat who was all too happy to sit on my lap! The home cooked included breakfast was delicious, and visiting with the hosts and other guests made it all the more fun! Check-in was easy and low-key. Our stay was perfect and you can't go wrong with this option in Johnson City, Texas.
The property was as pictured, however, there is a bathroom (with a shower) and kitchenette area not shown in the pictures. My husband and I found the space perfect for our purposes and will definitely be back! The hosts extended an invitation for breakfast across the driveway and it was absolutely delicious!
Wonderful weekend away. Feeding donkeys and chickens, swinging underneath a big oak tree. While petting the farm kitty. Yummy fresh breakfast cooked with love. Peaceful night sleep. Rustic charm at its finest. Will definitely return. Thank you Mike snd Amy for being amazing hosts!
My sister and I chose this location for a sister weekend / birthday getaway and it did not disappoint! The cabin was so cozy. Amy and Mike treated us like family and invited us into their home each morning for breakfast. We will definitely be visiting again!
We stayed in the writers cabin over the Christmas holiday to see the Lights Spectacular. The cabin was a nice size for the 2 of us. The accommodations within the cabin were good and super close to town. Amy and Mike were some of the most hospitable hosts we've ever encountered via VRBO. The donkeys... super friendly, but once you fed them an apple, they expected it every time they saw you! HAHA The BnB offered breakfast w/their fresh farm eggs (lots of chickens on property). They also gifted us with a holiday tin of homemade oatmeal cookies. We will come stay again.
Note: The online listing only shows a portion of the cabin. They have a little kitchenette (no stove) with mini-fridge, microwave, a Keurig coffee maker and provide k-cups. They also have a TV with cable and Netflix. Also, a country style bathroom with a 4ft shower, which was pretty spacious for a small cabin.
This is the second time my wife and I stayed at the writers cabin. The accommodations are simply amazing! On top of that, Mike and Amy are the most wonderful hosts you will ever meet. The delicious breakfast really tops off the trifecta, Mike and Amy are incredible chefs! Book early, this place is getting noticed by many.
Cabin was perfect for a weekend getaway. Location was great as its close to downtown yet secluded. Enjoyed feeding the donkeys and breakfast was amazing! Highly recommend!
The cabin was wonderful and we enjoyed our stay very much. We loved how quiet it was.

I enjoyed the time with my husband it was very peaceful and quiet. I just wish the cabin was facing the other direction from the main entrance to the main house. Made me feel uncomfortable.
The cabin was super cute, neat as a pin, and had everything we needed. Amy was super and breakfast was excellent. Stars at night were great and it was very peaceful.

About the host
Hosted by Amy Normand
Michael and I are long time residents of Johnson City, Texas, which is a small community in the Texas Hill Country about an hour west of Austin or north of San Antonio, on the way to either the Highland Lakes or Fredericksburg. We have a small farm on the west edge of town with lots of chickens and guineas (and one peacock), two precious donkeys, and a couple of cute dogs and cats who love company, and a gorgeous back yard with huge old live oak trees. We love any excuse to sit in the swing and visit for a while. We enjoy meeting new people and have hosted many friends and our large extended family for many years in our comfortable farmhouse. In addition to the Writer's Cabin, we have two beautiful guest rooms in the Farmhouse that we love to share with travelers to our area, providing a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Michael is originally from Lousiana and loves to cook and keep our yard beautiful. I run an insurance business from my home office, and I am very involved with my elderly father and disabled brother who live close by. I also love to tend my flowers and enjoy hosting our BnB and cooking. We are low key and love kids, animals and nature in just about any form. We believe we live in the very BEST part of Texas and we would to get to know YOU!
Why they chose this property
I have always lived in the country, and when I was looking for a new home in 1993, the live oak trees on this property made me fall in love with it. The added bonus was the big house with lots of room for my four kids to grow up in, with a little barn and farm space for animals that are a standard requirement in our world. When Michael joined our family in 1996, he brought our passion for growing things and tending animals to a whole new level, along with three more growing kids. Our place was Grand Central for kids for many years, and we missed that when the kids all grew up, so now we fill our space with guests from all over the world, many who have become treasured friends that return regularly to enjoy the peace and quiet here on the Farm and our numerous local attractions, wineries and restaurants.
What makes this property unique
Our favorite place to relax and visit with guests is in the backyard under the trees (our Outdoor Living Room) or on our front porch swing. The most fun we have is preparing a big country style breakfast for our guests, and allowing them the opportunity to get to know us and our other guests in a relaxed family setting, drink lots of good coffee and eat good home-cooked food.
