Beautiful Renovated Apartment Built Early 1800's In The Embassy Area Of Lisbon

Our beautiful apartment is situated in the heart of Lapa/ Santos, it's a very bright apartment and has been totally renovated. It is on the 1st floor of what was once one house. The living room is at the front of the apartment as you can see from the photos, it has an exquisite ceiling and doors open onto a small dining area. It has 2 double bedrooms, one of which was the old chapel of the house a bathroom with a spacious shower and a fully equipped fitted kitchen that includes a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge,freezer oven, hob, microwave, coffee machine. A rear balcony overlooks a private garden belonging to the apartment below. The apartment has electric heating and freestanding fans for the summer months also internet, cable tv and a music centre.
The apartment is in the embassy area of Lisbon and although it is quite near to the centre it is also quiet at night so you can get a good night sleep before exploring the city.
It's is close to the Basilica and Jardim da Estrella (10 minutes walk) but also close to the River.
There are lots of restaurants ( from cheap tascas to more upmarket and everything in-between), the same goes for the bars,there are little shops, supermarkets and a newsagents. Everything you could possibly need is close by. We are also very close to the National Museum of Ancient Art ( Museu Nacional da Arte Antiga) ,among the paintings you can see a wonderful Heironymus Bosch tryptic, the Museum has a beautiful garden overlooking the river where you can have coffee and a superb chocolate and walnut gooey cake). Close by is also the Museum of Marionettes ( Museu da Marioneta) .
We have owned the apartment for 8 years and we absolutely love it, we have been living on the Algarve for over 30 years and whenever we can we like to use it ourselves. There is so much we still need to explore, it's a fascinating city and we feel extremely honored to own this gorgeous apartment in this very special neighborhood..
Because of it's location you can just about walk anywhere but you also have the choice of buses trams and taxis that you can catch from the bottom of the road. We are also very near the train station of Santos where you can take a train along the coast up to Cascais ( It's a beautiful ride).

Great apartment in a great location

We were a group of 4 for the first few days then my husband and I continued to stay another week when friends went on to London. The apartment was the perfect size for us and in a great location for exploring Lisbon and the surrounding areas (close to Santos train station which easily takes you to other towns and lovely beaches). The apartment was clean and exactly as shown on Stayz, and we had everything we needed. Whenever we had questions the host was quick to answer which made the overall stay easy and comfortable. Great beds, a good shower and quiet. Easy walking distance to lots of great cafes, restaurants, shops and bars. We had a great time and would highly recommend staying at this apartment!

Ottima location

A beautiful stay. The accommodation was clean and located in an area that was certainly busy but not noisy. The ceilings are beautiful, richly decorated with quality stuccos. Excellent availability from the owner. A good reference point for visiting Lisbon and the surrounding areas. Definitely recommended!

Home away from home

Settle into this beautiful apartment and relax. The owner is very good with communication and recommendations of local things to do. Everything you need is here. The pictures are perfect example of how bright the apartment is. Spacious and comfortable. Convenient markets, transportation and restaurants in the area. Quiet location in the busy city. The apartment stays cooler even with warmer temperatures. Owner provided fans for every room. Book your stay today, you will love it!

Very lovely apartment but now needs some minor work. Communications with owner were lacking

We stayed in this apartment for a month in April and had a mostly enjoyable stay. Basically lovely apartment with highlight being large, bright airy LR with floor to ceiling winfdows. Quiet residental neighborhood close enough to main tourist areas. Large well-supplied Pingo Doce Food Market up the hill about 1/4 mile away. Very small market with the basics nearby, down the hill. The apartment needs some work on the paint. Paint in the areas of exterior doors & windows is peeling badly and unsightly .Needs a new paint job in those areas. We had a problem with the keys. We were given 2 sets of keys on arrival. It turned out that one set worked fine while the other was problematic. One night we took the problem keys and when we returned, they did not work. We were locked out. Called the owner but no response. The owner's daughter was managing the apartment, but we weren't given her phone #. Luckily our son was visiting at the time & had the other key. He went to a Rock Concert that night but could not be reached for hours. Eventually reached him & his key worked. Called the owner again the next day about this issue, no response. Eventually, the owner got back to us and advised ( for the first time) there was an emergency key in a lockbox nearby. Also eventually gave us the nearby daughters phone #. These are easily correctable issues. However, if our son wasn't visiting and had the good key, we could have been locked out for the night.

Charming, Bright and Spacious

A lovely apartment on the first floor of an old, tiled building ... only one flight of stairs! Comfortable beds (queen + double), well-equipped kitchen, good shower and, best of all, a lovely bright, airy living room with two cushy 3-seater sofas and large french doors overlooking the street. Perfect for unwinding after a busy, hilly day exploring lovely Lisbon. There's a small, well-stocked MiniPreco supermarket a few blocks away on Rua da Lapa (up the hill to the right) as well as two larger Pingo Doce supermarkets within walking distance. We had a good meal at the little Nepalese restaurant, Chulho, just down the hill. Several good cafes/brunch/lunch spots on Calcado Marques Abrantes farther down the hill and left at the pink church. The location is just far enough outside the city centre to be quiet and feel neighbourly. We used Uber more than public transit and found it convenient and well-priced. The owners were responsive and very accommodating. Clive's framed prints are beautiful! Highly recommend.

Serenity in Santos.

We loved staying in this beautiful apartment and would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in historic architecture...the ornate ceilings are exceptionally beautiful. The apartment is well equipped and cosy (we stayed in January) with very comfortable beds. Great location with all necessities in the immediate locale and well situated for trams, buses and trains to access the city centre and beyond and there is a wealth of useful information leaflets and guidebooks to inspire visits to the wonders of Lisbon. Clive and Linda are great hosts and the whole booking process and communication was very smooth. We would love to stay here again and have already recommended it to friends.

Beautiful flat in a great location

We really enjoyed our stay. The flat is so beautiful though a little quirky. The architecture is stunning and Clive’s watercolour paintings in each room gave us so much pleasure to look at every day. We slept well in a very quiet bedroom at the back. Kitchen and bathroom were fine too. Lisbon is full of narrow, steep streets like this one. At the bottom of the street is a very well stocked little supermarket, Mercado Santos. We also discovered a fantastic place for breakfast with fabulous croissants - Le Boulangerie, which opens early. They also serve lunch.

Mixed bag: spacious & lovely but noisy neighbors

Communication with host and check-in was easy using WhatsApp. Location is close to transportation (buses, trams, trains). Grocery and several restaurants nearby. Flat is spacious and airy. Unfortunately, we arrived on Saturday night to a loud neighborhood party that went on until 1:30. During the week, the upstairs neighbor was up and noisy by 6:30 and the downstairs neighbor was active until 23:00. We used the smaller middle bedroom the entire week rather than the main bedroom. If you are light sleepers, be aware. The upstairs neighbors were somewhat responsive, but the downstairs neighbor seemed almost resentful of renters. The kitchen is modestly appointed; the dining space is uninviting. The host’s artwork is brilliant but the overall apartment needs to be refreshed.

The perfect apartment in the perfect location!

I stayed for one month in this BEAUTIFUL apartment that reflects Lisbon's historic architecture. I love the floors and all the windows/balconies and the ceilings! It is in a central location in Lapa (a very safe area), walking distance from so many things (even the downtown area if you want to go for a longer walk). All Ubers arrived in 3-4 minutes or less. Great sized kitchen for cooking as well, comfortable and spacious bedrooms and beds. The living room area and smaller dining room area are great for remote work if you have to! Water pressure is top as well. Owners were extremely attentive, responsive, helpful and pleasant to communicate with! There is no elevator but this apartment is on the first floor so not tiring at all. A wonderful breeze comes through the front windows and lots of sunlight too. I would most definitely stay here again! Our stay was made that much more pleasant and relaxing :)

Fantastisch

Wir sind um 1 Uhr in der Nacht angereist. Die Tochter der Gastgeber-Familie hat uns auch zu dieser späten Stunde herzlich empfangen und uns den Schlüssel und Informationen übergeben. Sehr schöne Wohnung, zentral gelegen und trotzdem sehr ruhig (ein Zimmer zum Garten, eines in der "Mitte" der Wohnung aber trotzdem hell durch Tageslicht aus dem Wohnzimmer. Schöne Cafés und Restaurants in unmittelbarer Nähe. Schönes Haus und schöne Wohnung mit Stukkaturdecken. Wir hatten einen super Aufenthalt. Besten Dank an die Gastgeber-Familie!

Santos Nähe Lapa sehr schön

Schöne Wohngegend. Im 1. Stock. Gut angebunden durch öffentliche Verkehrsmittel. Wir haben allerdings überwiegend Uber genutzt. Viele gute Restaurants in der Nähe. Um das Leben im Viertel zu genießen haben wir die Kioske genutzt, um ein kühles Getränk am Abend und die Atmosphäre der Stadt zu erleben. Wir wurden sehr nett empfangen. Gekocht haben wir nicht. Die Wohnung ist zweckmässig ausgestattet und besticht durch das schön restaurierte Wohnzimmer. Vielen Dank an Clive und Linda, dass wir die Wohnung nutzen konnten.

Great Neighbourhood

this is a very lovely property in a neighbourhood with lots of restaurants and shops and it's just steps from the tram stop and a few minutes to Santos train station. Kitchen had everything we needed. Very comfy living room. We really enjoyed our stay.

Clive's property was perfect. The apartment is updated without sacrificing any charm, and it was tastefully decorated, timeless and functional. Wonderful stay in Lisbon

We truly enjoyed our stay in the apartment. It was every bit as lovely as it appeared in the listing. The location is fabulous, an easy walk to markets and restaurants and a very pleasant stroll to the Time Out market (a personal favorite of ours) which is right across the street from the metro and train station. The hosts were very attentive and we had no issues with our stay. I am very pleased to highly recommend this property and we would gladly stay here again during a future visit to Lisbon.

This apartment is gorgeous! It was in a perfect location for us, we walked almost everywhere. Very safe neighborhood. Everything we needed was provided, we were even able to wash our clothes. Thank you Clive and Linda for such a nice place to stay!!

Comfortable and Quiet

Our group of 3 thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful Lapa apartment. The district is quiet and well set up with small stores and restaurants which served all our needs. It is out of the city center, so quiet and not too crowded as you walk in the evenings. We found transportation to be readily available and very easy with a tramline steps away at the bottom of the block and both a bus and second tram line two blocks away. At the nearby grocery, wine shop and eateries we found helpful and friendly people and delicious food and wine. Linda and Clive arranged for someone to meet us upon our arrival and responded quickly to our requests and inquiries. We enjoyed the beautiful yet simple details of the interior of the apartment, especially the floor to ceiling operable patio doors with wooden shutters in the living, kitchen and bedroom areas. These allowed us to close out the heat of the day and then enjoy the ambiance of the neighborhood and the evening breeze once fully opened upon returning from our daily adventures. Linda and Clive also made available a collection of materials in the apartment for further research and planning, giving us ideas and information which was helpful as we navigated the city. Consistent WiFi was appreciated and something we did not necessarily encounter in other accommodations as we traveled through the country. Thank you Linda and Clive for a wonderful home-base as we explored Lisbon and the surrounding areas.

Fab apartment in a lovely neighbourhood

We stayed here for 4 nights and loved it: the apartment is lovely & well equipped, and the area is great. There’s a wonderful little supermarket just down the hill, along with lots of great bars & restaurants and the 25 tram stop, so it’s easy to get into the centre of town. Lisbon is a gorgeous little city & really easy to get around on the trams.
