Stunningly restored
My two kids and I stayed in this beautiful house for 3 nights. The house is at least 300 years old and has been renovated in a modern and trendy style by a top stone mason. The interior is very spacious-we actually did not use all of the bedrooms or bathrooms. Speaking of bathrooms, the fixtures were so cool they looked like they were straight out of an interior design magazine. I absolutely loved sitting near the open windows at the front of the house and taking in the pleasant sounds from the street. The house is a short walk (5-10 minutes) from all of the sights (arena, etc.) we wanted to see in Arles. It is also a stone’s throw from the promenade along the banks of the Rhône river, perfect for a morning jog. Loads of restaurants and a grocery store nearby. Parking is extremely limited in Arles, especially in the ancient narrow one-way streets where the house is located. With much stress, I negotiated the streets with my car in an attempt to drop my baggage off in front of the house but was never able to access the street (despite GPS). It is much better to find a temporary spot in the nearby lots or main streets and walk your luggage in. I later drove out to a free parking lot across the street from the ancient history museum and left it there for the duration of our stay. As a side note, the street where the house is located and all of the surrounding streets are historic and scenic (more like alleyways) and feel like they’re a Van Gogh painting come to life. Plenty of tourists wander around taking pictures. I would return in a heartbeat!
