About this property

Stunning Water Views and Southern Hospitality in Historic Downtown Beaufort

The waterfront home is located in a residential neighborhood; therefore, parties, events and excessive noise are strictly prohibited. Anyone violating this notice will be asked to leave the property. Please be respectful of our neighbors and the community.

This beautifully restored home, listed on the National Historic Register, exudes a wonderful blend of historic charm and southern hospitality combined with modern 21st century comforts. Relax with your favorite book on the porch swing overlooking the bay! Sip a cool drink from one of the many rockers on the spacious wrap-around porch. Watch fishing, recreational and tour boats sail by. You may even see dolphins frolicking! This waterfront home offers some of the best views in all of Beaufort! A short walk along the water, shaded by expansive oak trees dripping with Spanish moss, will bring guests to numerous shops, restaurants, and the popular Waterfront Park.

Originally the home of a prominent local family, it was known as “The Teacherage” for decades as a home for single teachers. This home later became one of the south's most popular bed and breakfast inns. A recent meticulous major renovation has returned the stately home to its original intent as a single-family private escape where guests can enjoy five spacious bedrooms and six bathrooms. Each bedroom, as well as the dining room, kitchen and living room, offers a water view.

Your sea island retreat combines a wonderful blend of historic architectural features such as original neoclassic columns, a gum wood bannister, and beautifully crafted moldings along with modern amenities. Along with superb water views, the home features a vintage claw-foot soaking tub, original heart pine, oak and mahogany floors, elegant marble countertops, a lovely garden, a historic rib cage brass shower, gas fireplace and comfortable beds with high-quality linens. A second floor screened-in porch offers the convenience of a nearby beverage center complete with coffee maker and refrigerator that allows guests to roll out of bed and enjoy a cup of coffee while gazing at the water. The home features an impressive collection of comfortable, but not fussy, 18th and 19th century antiques. Because it provides a unique blend of large communal spaces and private bedrooms, this home would make a perfect destination for groups traveling together such as couples, girlfriends' getaways, and small family reunions.

About Historic Beaufort
Those fascinated by history, antebellum architecture, gourmet dining, shopping, gallery browsing or water activities (sailing, kayaking, beach-combing), are sure to love Beaufort! Beaufort is a safe, vibrant place to spend either a special weekend or a long vacation. Set conveniently between Savannah and Charleston, Beaufort retains its small-town charm but offers much to do. The history of the Civil War played an impressive role in Beaufort's survival and legacy. There are several exciting things to do for history buffs. Travel back in time by taking a self-guided history walk through our National Historic District. A short horse and buggy tour clops down our hallowed streets in an hour-long tour. Take an early evening graveyard tour visiting many historical and beautiful churches around the downtown area, such as Saint Helena's Episcopal Church.

Life on the Water
Beaufort is situated on one of approximately 200 islands on the Intracoastal Waterway. Its geographic location is at the mouth of the Port Royal Sound which is the source of high salty tides, picturesque marshes and beaches, and hurricane-free weather. A short (15-minute) drive to Hunting Island State Park, brings you to the Atlantic coast where you can enjoy sand, surf, long walks on the South Carolina shoreline, a tour of the historic lighthouse, or to watch newly hatched sea turtles scramble to the sea. Numerous eco tours are available for exploring the rivers and marshes, either by kayak or boat.

Comfortable, Spacious Accommodations
Bedrooms and Bathrooms (5 bedrooms and 5 ½ baths)
One suite is located on the first floor. The second floor offers three spacious bedrooms (each with water views) and three private remodeled baths. The third floor “Crows Nest” is well worth the extra steps because here you can gaze at the stars under a cupola! Bedrooms on the first two floors are equipped with ceiling fans. A half bath is also available on the first floor.

Living Room
The expansive living room offers stunning water views, neoclassic columns and comfortable seating for all. A new Sony 65” flat screen HD smart TV features premium cable TV and internet service from which guests can access their favorite entertainment accounts.
Dining Room
Guests who prefer eating at home will appreciate a spacious dining room offering a large antique table, water/garden views, dramatic 10-foot original oak pocket doors and a coffered ceiling. An excellent selection of dinnerware and serving pieces ensure that guests may dine in comfort.
Gourmet Kitchen is a Cook's Paradise
The newly remodeled gourmet kitchen includes custom cabinetry, beautiful Italian marble countertops and professional appliances. The spacious marble island includes comfortable seagrass seating. Shrimp & grits anyone?

Celebrate Parris Island and US Marine Corps Events and Graduations
Parris Island (only six miles away) is the home of the U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot. The Island also features a museum and frequent graduation ceremonies when new recruits officially become Marines. Parris Island, its museum, a restaurant and the graduation ceremonies are open to the public. Nearby, the Marine Corps Air Station is among the United States military's most important and most historically colorful installations where fighter pilots train with some of the world's most advanced jets. Those who like the outdoors will enjoy local beaches, walking along the Spanish Moss trail, or kayaking among local dolphins. The gourmet kitchen is the perfect place to have a cooking class or create a low country meal together. No matter what you choose to do, everyone in your group is sure to agree that Beaufort is the ideal spot for your next girlfriends' trip!

Wedding weekend
We loved, loved this house. Perfect home for a destination wedding! My son got married on hunting island and reception at Old Market Bay- we had several family members in town the kitchen provided everything you could possibly need to feed several people - the space in the house was amazing- beautiful rooms- very clean, the porch and rocking chairs were a huge attraction along with the upstairs screened in porch for morning coffee! We hope to stay here again in the future!

Great choice for entertaining!
We rented this property for our daughter’s wedding week for our family and some of the bridesmaids. It was perfectly located and well equipped. We were able to entertain for brunch, cooking out, and morning coffee/evening drinks on porch. We couldn’t have been happier here💗

Fun with the girls!
Very reflective of a traditional southern family home with numerous upgrades to make it very, very comfortable. Attention to detail was incredible from the well equipped kitchen to comfortable beds and nice linens. Enjoyed the front porch watching the waterfront. Walking distance to all we wanted to do and see. Loved it.

By the Bay in Beautiful Beaufort!
Our group included four adult couples. We loved everything about the house and location close to downtown shopping and restaurants. The wrap around porch with the swinging bench and rocking chairs were lovely and we all enjoyed sitting outside looking out over the bay and watching people walk by and saying hello. The kitchen was gorgeous and very well stocked with every want and gadget a home cook could want. The house was exceptionally clean and the furnishings made it feel like home and not someone else's home and we were all comfortable placing our personal things. We also loved the little extras and attention to guest comfort like the makeup towels, the candles, the gift towels, jelly AND scones! The gardens need a little love (but it was winter after all), the front porch lantern light was hanging by the wires and the ovens may need recalibration. All told, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again and refer friends and family.

We enjoyed our stay in this beautifully renovated historic home. Beautifully furnished and spacious for large groups. The front porch view is phenomenal - we spent quite a bit of time on the porch swing and rocking chairs! The location is walkable to all of historic Beaufort.

Marine Graduation
Our extended family of 9 enjoyed our stay for our son's Marine Graduation from Parris Island. The home was so very welcoming and had everything we needed, including an iron. We relaxed on the front porch every night... Short drive to Parris Island. The only issues we encountered were the security alarm randomly going off due to the freezer, which was quickly fixed. And being unable to locate upstairs towels, which were left in the dryer. Highly recommend this beautiful home!!

The best book club ever stayed at the perfect place.
Twelve female members of our book club celebrated out 20th anniversary as a book club by staying at this beautiful home. There was enough room for all of us with plenty of bathrooms for everyone. The house is the best stocked house of anyplace I have stayed and everything was clean and beautiful. We were able to walk to several nice restaurants and the Pat Conroy Literacy Center was a couple of blocks away. Our view of the water was gorgeous! We loved our stay here.

Wedding in Dataw
Immaculate. This house was nothing short of incredible. The pictures don't do it justice because its even better in person. We stayed with a group of friends for a wedding on Dataw Island and there was more than enough room for everyone to be comfortable. The porch overlooking the river was a constant hangout throughout all times of the day. Location was fantastic as it was a short walk to the downtown. We would stay at this house again in a heartbeat!

Lovely!
We spent 3 nights at this lovely home—May 27, 2022 - May 30, 2022 - while attending all the events for our grandson’s wedding. What a beautiful house in a beautiful location! We enjoyed everything about this property. We had plenty of room for everyone to sleep, eat, and dress without infringing on anyone’s privacy. The kitchen was a dream and the living area was large and very comfortable. We enjoyed the front porch and spent most of our relaxation time there. We’ll be back in November to celebrate our granddaughter’s wedding! Excited!

Low Country Views
This is a beautiful house in a perfect location. Every room is unique. The historical features take you back to a different time. The front porch is amazing. We rented the house for our family while attending a wedding and it was big enough for everyone to have their own space yet be together. We will always remember the great time we shared here. We will definitely return to enjoy more of Beaufort and to relax in this low country setting.

Memories Made Here
The house and view were beyond what the listing showed. It was immaculate. My daughter was getting married in Beaufort and my whole family stayed with me. I have a small family, but at times it was just my sister and our mother. We felt like queens! We never lacked for anything especially the fab view and short walk to downtown…so beautiful! Only things I would suggest is definitely to have “regular” wine glasses, and a better wine opener…would enhance everything. Beds were comfortable and so cushy and soft. Loved having the choice to open windows in an older home. Can’t say good enough things honestly!!! Loved every second and if you are doubting it it is definitely worth the extra few bucks to stay in this mansion!!!

Nearly PERFECT!
Everything about this property was fantastic with one important exception. The artwork throughout portrays slaves picking cotton - and other less than culturally sensitive displays. This was disturbing and made EVERYONE uncomfortable. Which is a terrible shame as literally EVERYTHING else about the house was beyond our expectations. It is the most well-equipped rental we have EVER stayed in (and we travel frequently). It is a BEAUTIFUL home in a gorgeous location. It is convenient to EVERYTHING. I realize the historical nature of the rental - which likely informed the various selections of framed posters and artwork. However - to me - I am very unclear as to how slavery relates to the home. If there IS a connection - it would have helped to have an explanation posted. If there was NO connection - then the "art" feels like a representation of the worst history of the region - and offensive. It was enough to make me wary of a future rental -- which I otherwise would have been 100% behind.
