About this property

Lakeside cottage with west shore island sunsets and views of the Adirondacks.

Plan your next waterfront vacation at Jam Lodge, a charming cottage on the shores of Lake Champlain. You and your guests will enjoy what we consider the best views on the island from the Adirondack chairs that overlook a private beach and the views of the Adirondack mountains.
THE PROPERTY
Our cottage has been enjoyed by four generations of our family, and we are ready to share it with you. Get ready to make your own memories and fun in this magical place.
The cottage was built in the 1940's, by a local craftsman. They furnishings were handmade to fit the cottage and have stood the test of time. Cozy knotty pine adorn the walls and glow in the beautiful sunsets that await you.
The Bedrooms have handmade twin over twin bunkbeds. Sleeps five to ten persons if using upper bunks.
One Bedroom has one set of twin bunk beds, dresser and closet with personal sink .
Second and third bedrooms have two sets of twin bunk beds , dressers and closets.
The house has one full bathroom with shower, and a great private outdoor shower.
The main living space has a dining area with table perfect for eating and playing games.
two couches, and plenty of seating and a wood stove fireplace. with a great view of the lake.
All the amenities that you will need to feel comfortable as possible during your stay here, including wifi, flat screen tv, puzzles, games, and books.
There is a fully appointed kitchen to prepare home cooked meals, and laundry room with washer and dryer for your laundry needs, as well as extra game and dining space.
There are plenty of local markets within a 10 to 20 minute drive on the islands for your convenience. We suggest you stock up on your initial grocery run, at the Price Chopper in Champlain, NY 30 minutes away, or in St. Albans, or Burlington.
Please note that this home's water is drawn directly from Lake Champlain, while perfectly fine for bathing, doing dishes, etc, we do recommend bringing your own drinking water.
Garage stocked with water toys and lawn games and freezer . Plenty of outside parking on lawn near garage.
The large, landscaped yard is perfectly suited for relaxing on handmade Adirondack chairs, playing lawn games, a nice long picnic table, and shade from lovely trees. Fire up the gas grill for an outdoor barbecue and eat al fresco on our large picnic table as you see the lake shimmer and sailboats glide by, right before your eyes.
There is a partially covered front porch, with chairs for having a nice sunset cocktail, and enjoying the view, and stunning sunsets.
THINGS TO DO
Sit and read on the handmade Adirondack chairs, relax on the porch and sip a cocktail as you gaze upon the waters of Lake Champlain. If you want to be active, use the 2 kayaks, 2 paddle boards, canoe or bikes available for your use. The Lake Champlain islands are perfect for enjoying all sorts of activities. Use our dock to swim and sit on our private spacious beach. you will find plenty of fossils if you look closely. Have a bonfire on the beach and roast some marshmallows and share stories to end your day.
Fishing and water sports are excellent, and have kept our children happy and active all summer. Some of the best fishing for bass, perch, walleye and pike in the islands is right off our property. There are antique stores, apple orchards , wineries and nature preserves all along the Champlain Islands, within biking or driving distance. We are located next door to the Fisk Quarry Preserve, a 20 acre site which contains rich wetland habitat for birds and animals as well as the home to the 450 million year old Chazy Fossil Reef.
Each week in July and August, the Goodsell Quarry features musical entertainment and art exhibitions.
If golf is your thing, there is the Alburg Golf Links five miles away. Enjoy numerous other courses in the area, for all the golfers in your group.
Be sure to visit St Anne's Shrine on the northern point of the island, the site of the first French settlement discovered by Samuel De Champlain in 1666 which included a fort and chapel. Weekly masses and picnic grounds available.
If you feel the urge to travel further than our beach, drive 60 minutes to Montreal or
Burlington. You are 90 minutes from Stowe Vermont. Burlington International Airport is a 60 minute drive.
Visit Shelboune Farms just north of Burlington for a truly Vermont experience. Sample their homemade cheese and tour the working farm.
Upstate New York is just over the bridge to the west. Discover Ausable Chasm and raft through the river gorge.
Fall is a perfect time to explore the Lake Champlain Islands! Leaf touring, visiting wineries, picking apples, and antique shopping, while enjoying numerous local coffee shops and restaurants. A Perfect Fall Weekend getaway.
ABOUT THE OWNERS
Jam Lodge has been in our family for almost 70 years. It has been enjoyed by us for four generations. Nearly all the properties in our bay are occupied by the families of the original owners, that built the cottages here. Our children have grown up and played with the children of the friends we grew up with. As did our parents, making this cottage a place filled with lots of memories and great stories. This makes our little island community a great place to visit and the atmoshphere is family friendly, and laid back.
May you also love this place as much as we do, we look forward to you coming back year after year.

Absolutely beautiful fall foliage!

An absolutely beautiful spot. Clean, and so cozy! We loved the walkability to the rock quarry, and bikes provided for beautiful fall bike rides. This is a spot I can't over rave about because it's SUCH a Jem! Perfect for family and friends!

Great spot for gathering with friends!

This house was perfect for me and my college girlfriends to gather for a long weekend! The weather was not great so we didn't get to take advantage of the kayak/canoe/paddleboards, but there were games and books and plenty of chatting to keep us occupied. We did manage to soak in some good lake views from the Adirondack chairs in moments of sun. The well stocked kitchen also came in very handy for all of the cooking we did. Would definitely recommend!

A place to make memories

I live in Idaho and this is my daughter's 3rd year teaching in the Burlington area. We have made it a tradition for me to come in the Fall for a visit and for us to have a "girls' weekend" somewhere special. This stay was truly a blessing, not only did we make wonderful memories for ourselves, but you could feel the happiness that has lived in those walls for 75 years. We want to go back with more of our family to share it with them.

Beautiful, relaxing home

We spent a full week with our three young boys (10,7,4) and my parents. The garage is well stocked with everything a young boy could dream of to keep them active and entertained. Adults can enjoy the serenity of this quaint, quiet location with many different locations to relax and enjoy the view of Champlain. We really enjoyed our daily exploration of the immediate surrounding area on bike, foot and boat and the house is stocked with everything you need. An absolute gem, we love it!

Excellent family lake home

I have been vacationing here for over 30 years with my children. They absolutely love it and this is why they always want to come back no matter how old they are. They love to boat and use their JetSki’s. The fishing is great with the boat or just from the dock and shore. The place is so peaceful with beautiful sunsets. The large living room is great for late nite games before bed. Kitchen has everything you need to cook great meals for your family. Like I said I have been coming here for along time and the improvements this family has made over the years have been great upgrades. Well done!! Just an excellent place to be. Love it and will keep coming back with my kids and hopefully grandchildren in the future.

Perfect Location and Lovely Cottage

The spectacular views won us over right away. What a wonderful getaway right on the lake with a private beach area, equipped with kayaks, paddle boards, canoe and more. The water was great. JAM Lodge is lovely and is located in a nice quiet area, right next door to a quarry preserve and access to the 400,000 year old rocks and fossils. So much to explore! We loved the spacious living room, and the kitchen has every utensil you might need. We also made use of all the literature about the island. We enjoyed the outdoor shower. We could easily have stayed another week. Thank you for making this family cottage available.

The kids and I had a great time at JAM Lodge for the long weekend. We enjoyed some canoeing and looking for fossils at the Fisk preserve. Lots of entertainment

While the kitchen door lock was difficult to open originally and impossible to use through the week, most aspects of the cottage were very agreeable. We rented this cottage and another nearby. This cottage offered excellent water access and "toys" for the lake. The bikes could use annual tune-ups. The kitchen was well-equipped. Someone needs to write instructions for using the indoor shower handle; it's not a turn like most handles. We used this place for quiet activities indoors, so some folks could stay in touch with their employers. A great choice but not for 10 who could sleep there when there's only one bathroom.

Summer Solitude

Jam Lodge was a great stay for our family. Isle LaMotte was an end of the road, quiet, relaxing place to vacation. Hosts were great and the whole process was seamless. Kids had a great time, swimming, playing in the yard, paddle boarding and eating outside on the picnic table. If you looking for quiet place to relax and get away from the business of life this spot can't be beat.

Beautiful and Cozy

Jam Lodge is charming and beautifully appointed. Feels like you're in a family cottage - which you are! Extremely clean, organized, and lots of thoughtful touches. The house binder has great info a little house history. The view of the lake is spectacular. The lawn and the beach offer lots of room for games & lounging. Beautiful, well-maintained property. My family owns a cabin in NH similar to this one - also about 75 years old and in our family since the 1930s. We were set to be there for our post-COVID reunion this weekend, but an unexpected windstorm felled several trees and destroyed the roof. Repairs are underway, and the house will be OK, but we can't use the property right now. Not being able to be in our special place this weekend, Jam Lodge was our alternative. What a fantastic choice. Felt familiar and like being home. Would highly recommend Liz's place. The location and amenities are unbeatable and the house itself is warm and welcoming. Thanks!!

Enjoyed by our family for four generations. We are four cousins who now own JAM Lodge. Our great uncle John bought this property in the forties. Since then we have spent every summer at this very special cottage, making memories and enjoying the wonders of Isle La Motte.

Why they chose this property

We believe our cottage has the best views on the island. From the sparking waters of Lake Champlain , to the spectacular sunsets, it is a postcard setting . The cottage was built by a local craftsman, and it possesses a charm and vintage appeal with handmade furniture and pine walls that glow in the sunlight.
The private beach is perfect for swimming, boating , fossil hunting , and relaxing . The lawn is spacious and perfect for a game of croquet or bocce ball. Enjoy the Champlain Islands and use our cottage as home base or never leave our place, either way you will always remember your stay with fond memories.
