This is an unusual mansion in that it is occupied by the owner and rented only when his family is not there. He happens to be a Michigan State University Hotel School Grad . The compound of buildings tends to be run like a great hotel would be. You can be left alone and cook for yourself or use as you would a five star hotel - YOUR CHOICE

It may look like an old mansion but the villa was built and finished in 2007. The cottage is one of the original Copacabana granite miners houses. At the foot of our mews is the cliff and mountains of the long closed granite mines.

The newest addition to the villa is the 4 room - two floor - POOL HOUSE which was just finished July 20 2019. It is next to the two floor BALI SUITE. Gardens are always being totally redone and dozens of new orchids, vines, and now 5 new Jaboticaba trees planted - so you can pick your fresh Brazilian fruit daily.

We love a great party and have samba dancers, musicians,a resident bartender and because of the large size of the mansion your party can rock til wee hours - and neighbors not disturbed. Being great neighbors is VIP for us. State of the art air conditioning, smart energy. Incredible wifi - extensive cable service - and poolside television for night time movies and sports. GOOGLE devices in all bedrooms.

FOOD SERVICE - Not much point in renting a big space if there is no local restaurant for breakfast or you have to go out for a great dinner when after a beach or tour day you would rather be at home. You can work with our cook to have a inexpensive over the top experience in our dining rooms. Ask to see a PDF file of photos from some of our dinners. We buy local from our farmers market and the fishermans quarter. In addition we can help you choose the restaurants in RIo we consider GREAT without breaking your family budget. Guests seem to love it when we take them shopping. BUT FOR SURE - we know how to leave you alone when you want total privacy and only a daily cleaning.

We housed the grad business school of University of San Diego, the Tolstoy family reunion from Russia, a huge childrens group from a Texas church for the pope's visit, groups of visiting young athletes and performers. Property was great and in an amazing location to everything. The last afternoon of our stay the water to the property was disconnected. With mainly all ladies in our party; this was unrealistic. No refund was offered for the inconvenience. Refund should have been offered.

Birthday Trip!
The list of superlatives in prior reviews accurately capture most everything I want to communicate. The staff, lead by Thiago, were the best anyone could ask for. They were responsive, kind, understanding and most helpful. Tereza, the Chef de cuisine, was exemplary in every way. Her food in taste, preparation and qualify was one of the many highlights of the trip. Lara too was excellent and helped us in so many ways from translating Uber Eats menus to the best places to go, etc. Coordination of tours, transportation, nightlife and directions were but a few of the accoutrements we enjoyed by the staff. The Villa itself is very accurately depicted in the photos and was truly our Brazilian home for a week. After a few days, we unanimously agreed that we MUST return next year because of this experience. I cannot imagine a better experience in Rio than the one we had, and for that for that, we thank you!

Perfect for a crowd....and kids!
Having grown up in Rio it was hard to comprehend how a place like this could be tucked away in the frenzy that is Copacabana. Three generations of our family ages 2 - 82 , for a total of 9 people, were comfortably accomodated in the villa. We hosted an extended family reumion for approximately 50 relatives , all Rio natives, who were blown away by the architecture and comfort of the house. As has been mentioned in previous reveiws, the staff was very helpful, the beds very comfortable, all bathrooms have hair dryers, soap and shampoo, so leave that stuff at home to make room for some wares bought at the Hippy Fair which is 2 stops away on the subway (40 steps from the villa's front door).Cabs were plentyful and easy to catch and are the best method of transport around Rio. We ate several times at Cevada wich is a typical Rio "buteco" offering great "chopp" and "pastel" ( go for the Brie and apricot pastel or the empada aberta de siri) , we also visited Restaurante Polonesa which is a great neiborhood restaurant. There are 2 good bakeries a block from the villa ( Parme and Fornalha) as well as grocery stores, dry cleaners and anything else anyone would need! As I mentioned we had 3 kids in the house , two 5 y/o's and a 2 y/o and the older kids made friends with some of the neighbor kids and played soccer in the alley with occasional supervision. The parakeets on the 3rd floor were also a hit with the young ones...:) The only caution I would give with kids in the house is that the recessed lighting on the stairs gets VERY hot and both older kids sustained minor burns on their legs from sitting on the steps and touching their legs to the light - lesson learned for all of us! The stairs were a bit tiring for the older set,and they kept the up/down trips to a minimum, but should definitly be a consideration for the elderly and those with any knee or mobility issues. In our case this was a great way to go as a group and have a place to congregate, while still having space for our little family units. I hope to return to the villa in the future!

40th birthday to remember for a lifetime
This experience was outstanding! Myself and 12 friends stayed at the Villa for 10 days. Upon arrival, the staff greeted us after arranging a pick up from the airport. I was introduced to 2 'new' house managers Thiago and Rodrigo, as the Villa had just been placed under new management. In the first minutes of communication, they were professional, personal and eased/improved upon the original planning. Quickly, the full staff was introduced and the week began it's planning. We worked directly with Tereza, the chef, who is the kindest, sweetest person and creates the most delicious (and bountiful) meals. Her food is out-of-this-world and certainly recommended for anyone planning their trips. Laura and Erica were very sweet, kind and attentive, but respectful of space to be sure the house was tidy. Thiago and Rodrigo were responsive at any time if there was anything that required attention to the Villa. The team of 5 are incredible and they blended seamlessly into my group of friends, as we invited them to enjoy the time with us. They are a wonderful team of people and made our time in Rio unforgettable. The home is just lovely. It's in a private, safe, gated street in the Copacabana neighborhood. Very convenient to shops, restaurants and a short walk to the beach. The upstairs pool is small, but a nice option. The suites are all very nicely appointed, the 2 poolside cabanas are not as well appointed and have bunk beds. My friends were not interested in climbing the ladders to the upper bunks and Thiago and Rodrigo quickly made arrangements for us to 'expand' into the neighboring Cottage for a very reasonable fee. This offered everyone, who was not coupled, their own bedroom space and a great option for larger groups. The experience was more than I could have ever asked for. The house is nice, but the team who runs the home is PHENOMENAL. They will make your stay feel like you're visiting your Brazilian family. THANK YOU ALL! You made my birthday incredibly special. I am warning you as much as I possibly can. You do not want to stay at this property!!
SCAM ALERT- I took a group of 36 middle-aged, responsible adults (mostly couples) to Rio’s Carnaval to celebrate my 50th Birthday. We stayed in 3 penthouses, one being the Villa. We had zero issues with our other rentals, but many, many with the management and owner of the Villa. First, the manager, Luiz, was very confrontational throughout the stay. At checkin he became irate about one guest staying 3 nights instead of the full week. Even though it was authorized prior to be pro-rated, Luiz was adamant that he had to pay for a full week. He finally pulled me into a separate room away from our group and tried to intimidate me. The VRBO website advertises amenities that the villa does NOT offer, including washer and dryer. They locked the door to laundry and charged for fresh linens/ towels. The pool was green with algae making swimming gross. The ability to “party till the wee hours” didn’t exist. They wouldn't allow anyone by the pool after 10pm and remotely locked out the music speakers. The advertised chef is the biggest scam. We booked 4 meals with the chef. While 16 people stayed in the Villa, management authorized (over two years of discussions) that our travel companions could participate in these meals. I gave Luiz, in writing, my entire groups’ names and passport numbers, as requested. Confusion with the management occurred because not all 16 staying in the Villa ate with the group. He counted everyone who walked in, regardless of whether they ate or not, by watching us through hidden cameras at the door. Or so he says. He also tried to charge us for 4 people using the amenities, because 4 people not staying there walked by the pool on a tour of the house. He would neither disclose the location of the cameras nor show us the footage as requested. NO ONE walked in that door who didn’t have prior management permission. The Chef took our uncooked food we purchased home and the leftover food was supposed to be for us but was eaten by house staff, who took it home. Upon checking out, he charged us double, because “more people ate than paid!" Then he kept our entire deposit because “I didn’t fill out the proper forms” on who was eating, despite giving all our info. He didn’t say otherwise the entire week we were there while he admittedly watched our every move. I can see why they try to have good security. At night this neighborhood is very scary. The management & owner, and Villa are frauds. I RECOMMEND HIGHLY: DO NOT STAY HERE!

Absolutely perfect for our family gathering
First of all this is a very unique and beautiful property. Located down a gated side street the house is off the road enough to be quiet yet a 5 minute walk from all the activities of the beaches! Stores and shops are close for stocking up for your stay. Our group of 8 (with family and friends coming and going) had ample room. Ages ranged from 5 to 45. The kitchen had all the utensils one would need to seat a party of 12 or more. The rooftop pool was clean and sweet for a dip. Lounge chairs were tidy and There were music speakers throughout with ample TVs for entertaining. Each bedroom had working air conditioning and comfortable beds. The kids preferred the “fun” rooms which had bunk/loft beds and were on the upper floors. Management was quick to respond and reactive to our questions and needs before and during our stay. There were daily House cleaners that were so friendly and polite. My only concern for anyone traveling with families is that the house is beautifully decorated, with some breakable items low enough to cause concern for any “handsy” toddler. This is not an issue with our 5 year old; however, if your kids like to be touchy you may need to keep this in mind. It is not a negative statement, it is just a parents perspective. When we return to Rio for our next family gathering, we will be staying here again. It really was an ideal fit for us. I highly recommend it for both family and mid size work groups. An Awesome Experience!!!
No matter if it's your first visit to Rio, or if you are a seasoned veteran like myself...The Villa in Copacabana is the best place to stay for the full experience of Rio. It's located within walking distance of fresh food markets, retail shopping malls, the best restaurants and Copacabana Beach. Yet, it's located in a safe and secure local area so you get to mingle with those that have lived their for years to get the full experience of Rio. The home, the staff and the owner are all exceptional assets to ensure your stay in Rio exceeds all expectations. The Home: A well built structure that offers a livingroom, kitchen, dining room, bathroom and library on the 1st floor. This level makes for great gathering space for its guests and their visitors. It also has a glass ceiling that allows in natural light to complete the experience. The remaining floors have some of the best bedrooms that one can expect, complete with a pool on the top level. The Staff: An exceptional group of people that treated us as family. They provided insight on places to visit, eat and answers to our endless questions about Rio and its history. Thiago assisted with the best tour packeges to meet our needs. Mama Tereza showed us how to dance like the natives. She is also the best cook in the country (I miss that daily breakfast of fruits, pastries, meats and eggs made to order). Dilson made sure the house was always taken care of and ready to suit our every need. Laura and Pamela also ensured that we were well fed and the house was always cleaned. The Owner: Mike is very insightful and accomodating. Although I thought I knew the best that Rio had to offer to ensure my family, friends and I had an awesome experience... Mike opened my eyes to possibilities for the group that truly enhanced our stay. All in All, this was the best experience for my 50th Birthday, my God Sister's 40th Birthday, my Frat brother's 35th birthday and my Brother's 30th birthday. All are more than happy we chose to celebrate our special day at The Villa in Copacabana!!!

Amazing house and excellent experience!!
We had an absolutely amazing time in Rio and by far our favorite thing was the Villa. This house is beautiful, eclectic and very well decorated. It is kept extremely clean and feels like you are at your home away from home. Tereza is the sweetest lady you will ever meet, and she is an amazing cook. Thiago was always available for anything we needed. We would definitely come back. Overall fantastic experience!

Wow!!! Over the top!!!
Mike, Teresa, Pamela, and Tiago where simply outstanding. First this is not you typical Vrbo, it is like staying in a full service luxury hotel. We booked breakfast everyday, ( highly recommend...so much great food), we also book dinner 5 of the 8 nights we where there and boy Teresa and Pamela can cook, all meals were great and everyone in our family loved them. (So much fabulous food and deserts) We also had a party at the house for our daughter’s 30th birthday, with a samba band, what a excellent time and a great and fun band! But be ready to samba, as not only is Teresa a fantastic cook but what a samba dancer. She will get everyone moving and taught our whole family. Tiago and Mike arranged tours, soccer matches, pick-ups and drop offs, and special food (birthday cakes) every day for our group with excellent results. (With a very comfortable big van for our group to be able to stay together ) Ask for Raul (He is a former history teacher)as your tour guide he was excellent! We also had Tiago arrange for a private photographer (Março Schmidt fotografia) who did an excellent job and made us all feel comfortable as he took us around sites in Rio to take some various candid photos of our family. I didn’t even get to how great the place looks, photos don’t do it justice. Fresh flowers in every room! And I do not mean a little flower bouquet, there where full flower arrangements! Also our rooms were cleaned daily can you believe that from a Vrbo...a whole other level! Our whole family can’t wait to go back! We want to say a special thanks to Mike Lott, the owner, for make our trip to Rio so outstanding and making all our children and grand child fill comfortable, special, and part of his special Family in Rio. He was excellent to work with prior to and during the trip, what a wonderful person! We felt safe and comfortable at all times! Thank you all so much!!!!!

MARAVILHOSO!! PARFAIT!! PERFECT
La maison est merveilleuse! Très grande, encore mieux que sur les photos. C'est le confort d'une maison individuelle avec les services d'un hôtel 3 étoiles! Rodrigo, Thiago, Teresa et Lara sont formidables, aux petits soins. Les petits déjeuners sont très copieux, variés et surtout très bons! Pains français, paoes de queijo, spécialités Brésiliennes dans un petit déjeuner continental ! Si nous avons eu des questions Rodrigo et Thiago étaient très réactifs! La piscine est parfaite pour les enfants et tout est formidable! Avant de louer la maison j'étais un peu inquiète par le niveau de sécurité du quartier. En arrivant dans la maison et en y restant 10 jours nous avons bien vu que le quartier est très sur. Il y a un hôtel au coin de la rue, des commerces ouverts très tard et surtout la maison est dans une impasse, fermée, sécurisée. Nous ne nous sommes jamais sentis en danger, loin de la ! Surtout n'hésitez pas, a venir en famille, entre amis, cette maison est la maison du bonheur !

A casa é maravilhosa. Achamos os ambientes ainda melhores que nas fotos. Hospedamos 15 pessoas sem problemas. É como se tivéssemos fechado uma ótima pousada somente pra gente. O sistema de serviços lembra o de uma (ótima) pousada. As extremamente simpáticas Teresa e Lara podem ser contratadas para deliciosas refeições e, mesmo sem as refeições, elas mantém a casa em ordem, lavam a louça, etc. Tanto elas como os administradores Rodrigo e Thiago moram no mesmo condomínio e são todos super solícitos - estão a disposição para resolver qualquer necessidade, caso necessário. Metrô, supermercados, restaurantes e lanchonetes ficam todos a poucos minutos da casa. A cozinha é extremamente bem equipada (a melhor que já vi - tem de tudo). A piscina não é muito grande, mas é um ambiente muito gostoso para relaxar, bater papo, etc... Os serviços não tiram nossa privacidade. Fomos em uma turma grande para festejar no carnaval e nos sentimos super confortáveis em usar a piscina, ouvir músicas e etc (o sistema de som também é muito legal - amplo e dá pra conectar Spotify diretamente nele) Adoramos e já queremos voltar!!!

Meticulous Attention to Detail!
Our experience staying in the Villa exceeded expectation. We utilized all of the services offered, chef service, car service, guided tour of Rio etc. No complains. On time, Teresa the chef and her staff made the best meal daily (You can tell she loves what she does). Adan (House Manager) is definitely the nucleus that puts it all together. Well mannered, knowledgeable, every request is met with a smile, goes out of his way to please. I cannot say enough about this gentleman. I am planning another trip next year and will be staying in the same villa. Thanks Adan for a memorable time!

Family stay at the Villa in Rio
The Villa in Rio provided the ideal place for our UK family including children to stay in Rio for a family wedding. The property manager Adan and Tereza, without being intrusive, were always available to ensure everything went smoothly and to give us excellent local advice on all aspects of a stay in Rio. We availed ourselves of the excellent breakfast provided and also an evening meal where we invited a number of other friends staying locally in Rio. Tereza provides an excellent standard of catering which is very good value for money and being able to hand over some responsibility for cooking and shopping is great! The property itself is superb and more than lives up to its description. It is in a central location. The short walk to the beach and small roof top pool is a great help in keeping the children amused.

I had the TIME OF MY LIFE at The Villa! Everything was wonderful!
I planned to visit Rio to celebrate my birthday and immediately fell in love with online photos of The Villa. After speaking with Adan (the amazing House Manager/Concierge-Extraordinaire!), I was even more excited to visit. Adan listened to my requests, considered what he knew of my expectations, and tailored my experience to suit my needs. The Villa is located in a gated community within walking distance from EVERYthing, including shops, restaurants, public transportation, and Copacabana beach! (I'd received many warnings about crime/safety/well-being in Brazil but I felt very safe at The Villa) The house itself is beautifully decorated, warm & inviting, with every amenity imaginable. All 3 levels (including the rooftop with private pool, bbq grill, and additional sleeping quarters) were laid out with pleasant arrays of artwork, plants, and photo worthy furniture. Every nook & cranny was a photo-op! (I love elephants and was thrilled to see something with an elephant on it in most places in the house!) I traveled with a party of 6 and there was more than enough room for each of us to have our own space without the concern of crowding each other; and at the same time it was cozy enough for us to fellowship and enjoy each other's company. From the time I and my group arrived, we were treated like family. Adan, Theresa and Andrea were warm and receptive. Even Paco (the parrot) was beautiful and friendly. If there was anything we wanted or needed, all we had to do was make mention of it once and Adan made it happen! From currency exchange, to private car service, to dinner reservations,to private boat rental, to guided tours - Adan and the crew made sure we were well attended to. And the food....oh my goodness the FOOD! Y'all, Theresa and Andrea's hands are BLESSED by the Gods!!! We awoke each morning to a beautiful/delicious breakfast spread on the dining room table. Any time we requested a special meal it was prepared as tho for kings/queens. Superb! It always looked great and tasted even better. (have the pork or shrimp stew...they're divine!) On my birthday they decorated the house with beautiful flower arrangements that made my heart sing. (even gave me a little memento to bring home) It truly was an experience of a lifetime and you know what....I'll be back! If you're considering going to Rio, do yourself a favor and lodge at The Villa! You will not be disappointed.

The Villa in Rio de Janeiro is a real Rio gem!
We could not have been any more pleased with the Villa- it was an incredible, comfortable and beautiful place to stay. We were there as a group of 7 friends, gathered from across the country and could not think of a better place to be. The staff is incredible, and if you have a chance for them to cook for you - take it, over and over again - they really know how to put on a meal and it was far less than if we had gone out to eat. There were a number of day adventures to take advantage of if wanted and with the villa being only about a 7 minute walk away from Copacabana beach, location could not have been better. The beds were comfortable, the amenities were plentiful, and relaxing in the roof top pool with an evening gin and tonic was a great way to end the day and begin the night. The staff was solicitous, helpful, friendly, and the smiles on the cook and housekeeper are still burning brightly in my mind. If you want a great and unique place to stay in Rio, and the Villa is available - grab it. I know we will when we ever return. Oh! Last but NOT least..... Paco, the parrot, was an added treat. A few from our group fell madly in love with him!

This is a unique property and well equipped.
We had a memorable stay at this property. Very centrally located, safe location and close to Copacabana Beach. Property is well designed for large group and have great time. Property manager Adan and staff Were exellant in helping our stay. They truly treat their guest well and made our stay very comfortable. Amazing Villa- A Piece of heaven in Copacobana
The Villa in Rio is an amazing villa. It is true to the pictures. It is spacious clean and beautifully furnished and designed. It is a place where you can have fun or just disconnect and find peace. You get exceptional service from the Caretaker, Adan, who organized airport transfers and an overnight group trip to magical "Ilha Grande". The staff was super friendly. They actually took our group of 8 to the famous Samba school "Mangueira" in the final lead up to Carnival... and they cooked exceptional Brazilian dishes for our meals. The rooms were very comfortable and the rooftop deck and pool area was beautifully landscaped with Bromeliads and Orchids and provided just a serene space for relaxation. The location is a few minutes walk from bustling Copacabana beach on a quiet gated street. We felt very safe and comfortable! If you are looking for a little piece of heaven in Rio. This villa is the place for you!

Fantastic Villa in Rio!
We were a group of 20 friends visiting Rio for the New Year. We booked The Villa, excited that we found a rental that could fit all of us, and we were not disappointed! The Villa is located just a few minutes' walk from Copacabana beach, on a gated side street, which added a feeling of seclusion and privacy to the location. The property inside and out is stunning, and true to pictures, although perhaps slightly smaller in person. Adan, the villa manager was fantastic in arranging for our stay, including providing details on accommodations and arranging transport before we arrived. We knew we would have to squeeze into the rooms per his description of sleeping arrangements, and while it was definitely a tight fit in some of the bedrooms, the house fit everyone very comfortably, particularly in the common spaces. What made the rental so special and unique was the staff. Adan and his team were excellent in going above and beyond to satisfy our needs. The two housekeepers were so friendly and prepared delicious breakfast buffet for us every morning, and also tidied up the house and the bedrooms, which was crucial for helping to manage a group our size. Adan as mentioned earlier was excellent - very communicative and helpful in answering questions in advance of our arrival and setting up transportation and dinners once we arrived. I cannot recommend the property more wholeheartedly - this is really a special rental in Rio.

Excellent location, venue and staff
From start to finish this was an excellent experience. Adan met my wife who came in early at the airport and gave her a walking tour of the neighborhood then had lunch with her. We had 8 people staying at the villa all of whom were very comfortable. We opted to eat in for two nights and the staff fixed excellent meals. And of course Paco was there to entertain us. This was a great property!

Everything was perfection!!!
Our stay at the house was wonderful. The staff was absolutely amazing and treated our whole group with such hospitality. We would recommend staying here to anyone and would definitely stay here again if we visit Copacabana in the future.

AMAZING!
I stayed at the Villa in April with a large group from the U.S. We travelled to Rio for a few days before going to Ilha Grande and Paraty for my daughter’s wedding. Everyone in our group agreed that the Villa was by far the best place we stayed at. The house is amazing and in a great location, very close to Copacabana Beach. I can not say enough about Adan,Teresa and the other staff. Adan went above and beyond for us, from picking up a guest at the airport, to arranging buses, to driving a group of us that would not fit in our rented bus to a boat that was 2 hours away. Teresa prepared a delicious gourmet breakfast for us every morning. All staff went out of their way to make us comfortable and ensure we had everything we needed. The Villa is even more beautiful than it appears in photos. The kids in our group had a great time in the pool and we had plenty of space for all. I would highly recommend the Villa. Actually I can not think of anything negative to say about our experience there and am looking forward to returning one day!

The best place for my 42th birthday
Dear Villa in Rio, I spend my birth Day on May 31º there in company with my family and some friends and it was wonderful, The decoration is fantastic, great pool on top of the house, all rooms around of the house with a great finished, coffee on the morning with a peculiar taste, house located near of the beach, center shopping. For people that are looking for spend some different days to rest and enjoy new experience I'd like to recomend it totally. spend
