About this property

Big Sebago Lake Rental Waterfront Private Beach | 2br Front Cottage and Studio

Property updates include Mini-Split heat pump AC/heat units in each bedroom and common area! Recent renovation includes an updated kitchen with stainless appliances, 18" dishwasher, open area between kitchen and living room to enhance lake views, new flooring, and a reno in the main bathroom (vanity, toilet, larger shower, and new flooring). ***This is a NONSMOKING property. Smoking is not allowed in the cottage or anywhere on the property outside; we ask that you and your guests respect this.

Enjoy the large screened porch (36' x 12') or step out the door to enjoy the beach and clear waters of Sebago. Appreciate the wildlife; a perfect retreat for bird watchers, fishing, or simply putting your feet up to relax in this peaceful location, listening to the loons in the early morning hours, or catching a glimpse of the eagles flying by daily.

The summer season (Mid-June to Labor Day) requires a Sat to Sat rental. Outside those dates, please feel free to message me with questions regarding the availability and duration of stay. Please note out-of-state guests are required to ensure they comply with the State of Maine health requirements. Our cleaners use CDC-approved cleaning products, and the cottage is thoroughly cleaned between renters.

The space:
Summer nights here on Sebago Lake are like few others. Breezes off the water, loons calling out, and a sky full of stars. Our cottage (and back cabin) are open late spring into early fall; the cottage is heated, and spring/fall nights are cool! For those who love warm summer nights, or even the brilliance of Spring or Fall in Maine and the spectacular foliage -- this destination is perfect from late Spring through mid-October. Bring a warm sweatshirt and enjoy the cooler seasons!

The cottage has been meticulously maintained over the years and has a master bedroom with a comfortable king-size bed and lots of storage. The master bedroom windows open to the screened porch water view, and there's nothing like falling asleep to clean Sebago air, or watching the sunrise from the comfort of the bed. There is a common sitting area with recliners, a couch, internet access, a 50” smart TV, a large dining room table on the porch, 1.5 bathrooms (one bath has a shower, sink, and toilet, and the other is a small sink and toilet only) and kitchen area. A second bedroom contains twin beds, and the third bedroom has a queen-size bed, small desk for remote work, and windows that open to the water view via the screened porch. The porch has a comfortable full-size futon for additional sleeping area, if needed (full-size spring mattress). All linens are high-end. The kitchen includes a K-Cafe coffee and cappuccino/latte maker... there is truly no reason to leave the solace of Sebago unless you choose to. One-level living makes it easy for guests of all ages. The large screened porch offers a tranquil place to sit, eat meals, play games, work or nap. We have Internet/WiFi and a 50” smart TV with HULU, Amazon and Netflix access (just log in with your account), and cable TV. Our location is semi-remote and very private.

Waterfront:
One mooring is available for renters, if desired. We have two docks; one on the right side of the beach, and a second, older dock is positioned to the far left and bifurcates the owner's area. The new dock forms a T at the end (see example photos) with space for sitting where you can enjoy your coffee at sunrise or a cocktail at sunset. If you're bringing a boat, the end of the dock is ideal for drop-off and pick-up of passengers. There are two kayaks available for your use if desired. Please bring your own life jackets.

*** Please Note *** The Owners are reserving the far left side of the beach for personal access, an area divided by a dock on wheels. There's over 100' of frontage, so plenty of room for renters to have privacy while allowing us to enjoy the water simultaneously. The water is higher in the late spring and early summer, and lowers significantly throughout the summer into fall.

Guest access
The maximum capacity of the cottage is ideally six; there is a full-size pullout couch on the screened-in porch for an additional sleeping area. The beach, swim, and dock areas and the fire pit are private for cottage renters. The owners live next door and will access the beach and swimming at times--always with a focus on the privacy of our guests. We will swim only in the owner's area, and utilize the new dock only when accessing our boat.

We will reach out prior to your rental to ensure your wishes regarding:
* Using our bedding vs yours (We request you bring your own pillows and/or bedding, if possible.)
* Any questions you may have prior to your arrival.

Parking is for multiple cars, but please, no more than four. If you have a motorboat, it must be launched from the town boat launch, and we'll provide a mooring upon request.

Mid-September to October weather can be wonderfully crisp. Swimming might be less enticing, although the water stays warm through September. Canoes and kayaks can be used year-round, and there's plenty to do in the area for sightseeing, hiking, and of course, Maine country fairs. Fishing options abound. We can guide you to local sights, entertainment, and recreation, as well as Portland activities, restaurants, and landmarks about 30-40 minutes away.

Trash receptacles are provided in the separate garage on the backlot, and we appreciate the respectful disposal of your waste, recyclables, and returnable bottles and cans. This also helps prevent the attraction of wildlife (like raccoons, foxes, or skunks) foraging for scraps.

** PLEASE NOTE:
Dogs are allowed (we love them!); an additional cleaning fee of $80 per week is required to cover the costs of extra labor for cleaning. There are approximately 60+ stairs down to the beach (please see the photos) and relatively steep banking--our family (from infant to adults) has grown up here for generations without incident, but if you have small children or have difficulty navigating stairs, please view all photos prior to booking this property to ensure it is an appropriate fit for you. We consider it a great way to increase our step count for the day! Also, note there is no lifeguard on duty.

A Cuisinart grill is included for those who love easy-to-prepare meals--you are on vacation, after all! It includes a side burner and cast iron griddle, so you never have to use the kitchen stove/oven if you don't want to. Please use only cast iron cookware on the outside grill.

The kitchen includes the latest K-Cafe coffee and cappuccino/late maker, allowing for a simple cup of coffee (bring your own K-cups) or a yummy late with froth just the way you like it. We try to provide all the comforts of home, and then some: a microwave, toaster oven, full refrigerator, dishwasher, dishes, pots, and pans, etc.

The high banking of this property prohibits anything other than kayaks, canoes, or paddleboards being lowered down the banking, or carefully carried down the stairs.

The furniture on the porch has been part of the family for generations--we ask that you lower the exterior canvas window covers if rain is in the forecast to protect the solid pine furniture. The canvas window covers have "windows" in the center, allowing you to appreciate the beauty of Sebago, even in the most frightful weather conditions from the beautiful screened porch.

The fireplace in the cottage is non-functioning and cannot be used under any circumstances both for safety and insurance purposes. You will find battery-operated candles in the fireplace for your enjoyment. Please do not remove them.

A gas fire pit is provided outside. Please turn the unit off when not in use and do not leave the gas fire burning unattended.

If you're requesting multiple weeks, a special rate may be available (although not as likely during peak June-August weeks), so please message us to ask.

We survey guests at the end of every stay; we want to know if there's something/anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable, memorable, or perfect. If you have feedback or need assistance, we live next door and are available via text or messaging for questions or assistance 24x7, although we will never invade your privacy.

We love this amazing spot on Sebago Lake and hope you will, too!

Great Get Away!

This property is beautiful! The cabin was clean and fit the needs of 5 adults and one dog comfortably. The screened in porch (my favorite spot and where we ate al of our meals) has the most beautiful views of the lake. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, coffee maker and everything else you may think you need to bring, well except food. Our stay was for four days and we did eat all our meals at the house. Barbeque, was clean and easy to use. The cabin is set up on a hill there are maybe 50 to 60 steps down to the water really wasn't an issue, just be aware. The beach area was clean a little rocky but we had absolutely no issues swimming. If your looking for a nice, peaceful get away look no further I would highly recommend Kate and Barry's place they were such a pleasure and attentive to or needs. Thanks for having us! Happy to see the weather was beautiful for your son's wedding.

Amazing!!!

We had the most wonderful stay!! Kate and Barry were THE most incredible hosts, they were so kind and helpful and also so thoughtful to not seem intrusive of our privacy. It was actually perfect to have them so close because as a couple of things came up they were there immediately to help (Like offering us the use of their generator when a thunderstorm knocked out power for a few hours and doing all they could to minimize any disruption from it!) The cabin and beach/lake could not have been more perfect, the quintessential Maine lake cabin experience but with the most beautiful and modern updates! Thank you for a wonderful stay... I wish we were there right now!

Cozy and with everything you need!

We had a beautiful stay at this property. The house has all you need to feel comfortable. The owners who live next door where very courteous, helpful and respect our privacy. All the basics you need for the kitchen you can have it and in great condition and all the knives were sharp!!! ( lol it’s a big a thing to me) The stairs down the lake were not a big deal for us. The lake is super clean and the sunrise view breathtaking. We will love to come back!

Best vacation ever!

This property is absolutely beautiful. The screened porch with pull down shades for bad weather was our favorite space. 3 bedrooms, plenty of storage and sparkling clean. Cannot say enough about the beautiful view and cottage.

Perfect camp with all the amenities

We had a great stay at this property. It was perfect for my husband and I and our three young kids. We had everything we needed at the cabin. Our one concern were the stairs because we have an older dog (and kids) and they proved to be a non issue. The beach was private and beautiful and we had a blast jumping off the dock. Definitely recommend to anyone and everyone! Thanks Kate and Barry for being terrific hosts.

Beautiful location

Despite some poor weather, my family of 5 (4 adults and 1 15 year old) loved our week at the cottage. It was the perfect size and was stocked with everything we needed. The home had the vibe of a traditional cottage from the 40s but with the amenities of a modern home - new appliances, new bathroom, AC/heat in every room, all with a large 3 season porch and gorgeous views. Not to mention your own private beach. We rented a boat for 2 days, waterskied, visited Frye Island for icecream and explored. If you have dogs that like to walk don’t miss the Portland Water District trails and if you haven’t been to Portland, we highly recommend it - especially the foodie scene. Incredible oasis

This glorious cabin had all the rustic beauty of a lakefront Maine getaway coupled with modern conveniences. Kate and Barry are so thoughtful and have covered anything one could possibly want. The cabin is pristine. The view is nothing short of spectacular. It is spacious, with three bedrooms. The kitchen and bathrooms are new and modern. The washer/dryer combo is incredibly effective. There are mini split AC units in each bedroom and one in the common area, and all were incredibly effective on the 90 degree day that we were there. The lake is incredible. Our dog loved swimming from the small beach on the property. There are several stairs going down to the beach, but the staircase is well-maintained and very safe. And Kate is simply the most wonderful and warm person. We want to get back here ASAP. It is the most extraordinary place.

Beautiful spot, awesome hosts, house with a great history

While the weather did not cooperate for us, the house really delivered. My favorite part was the screen porch that looks over the lake. Kate and Barry were excellent hosts, gave us our space and had everything covered at the same time. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Also - The listing says it’s a two bedroom but it’s actually three, which was an awesome surprise. I’m only sorry that we didn’t get to enjoy the lake more. Next time!

Beautiful, peaceful and memorable

We loved our stay at this beautiful property. The house itself was pristine with a beautiful porch overlooking the lake. We spent hours relaxing on the porch, enjoying the view. Our kids loved the beach and the kayaks were a huge hit. The owners were responsive and helpful, offering advice about the area and attending to anything we needed. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. We recommend this listing highly - it is a perfect retreat for families. We came home rested and feeling better than we had in months.

Perfect Porch

Kate and Barry were awesome hosts, making sure you had what you needed during your stay! This camp had everything we were looking for. A porch which was amazing, a beach which was private, and they love dogs!! A plus all the way around. The 62 stairs to get to the beach was a little much (although a great workout)! We knew this going in so it was not a surprise to us. The weather could of cooperated better but we made the best of it. Thank you Kate and Barry!

Why they chose this property

This property has been in our family since 1934 and loving crafted by our family with beautiful, original pine beadboard walls, and a large screened-in porch you won't want to leave. Our grandparents bought the property before they owned a home as a result of an unexpected death...they realized life is short and wanted a family getaway where amazing memories could be made.

They were right, and our family has enjoyed the property for three generations; we are thrilled to be able to share this private, beautiful, and peaceful spot with you.

What makes this property unique

This semi-remote location affords a gorgeous location with direct waterfront and private beach access; within five minutes of arriving you will feel the stress of the world melt away.

We will reach out prior to your rental to ensure your wishes regarding:
* Using our bedding vs yours (We request your bring your own pillows, if possible.)
* Any questions you may have prior to your arrival.
* Smoke-free property - smoking is not allowed in the cottage nor anywhere on the property.
