About this property

Candlelight Cottage - Converted Chapel 2 Bed Self Catering Holiday Cottage

Built in 1840 as the village chapel, Candlelight Cottage was converted in 2010 to provide 2 bedroom accommodation for up to 4 guests. .

Located in one of the driest regions in the country, the cottage is a 2-bedroom self catering stone chapel set in the grounds of the owners property in a quiet Nene valley village. Ideally located for visiting the historic stone market towns of Stamford (10 mins), Oakham (20 mins) and Oundle (10 mins), Burghley House (10 mins), Rutland Water (15 mins), East of England showground (10 mins).

Accomodation consists of 6mx4.3 m (20'x14') double height open plan living/dining/oak kitchen area with widescreen TV/Freesat/DVD, downstairs twin bedroom with full-size single beds, bathroom with 5' wide electric shower, upstairs bedroom with king-size bed, fenced patio area with patio table set and BBQ. There is a country pub serving food just down the road along with the village playing field and playground.

The local area is popular for walking and cycling, fishing on the River Nene or at Rutland Water/Grafham Water/Eyebrook. Why not watch the Ospreys raise their young at Rutland Water or keep an eye open for Red Kites and Buzzards soaring over the garden? The pretty north Norfolk coast, London, Cambridge or Lincoln can all be reached in around an hour. There are many walks from the village along the river or through nearby woods and rolling hills. The local area is blessed with several historic stately homes, pretty stone villages and market towns along with a wide choice of places to eat and raise the odd glass or two! You can keep the children entertained at the nearby farm visitor centre or steam railway (both within 10 mins) or why not try canoing/wind-surfing/sailing/rock-wall/hiring a bike or having a boat trip on the Rutland Belle at Rutland Water?

7.4KW EV charging point available at additional cost.

Please note that the cottage is accessed via a 30m long level gravel path.

Excellent base for exploring!

We have a wonderful week at Candlelight Cottage. It was amazingly comfortable, had a fantastically stocked kitchen which made family meals a cinch, while being an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area. We highly recommended this property, with friendly, helpful and approachable hosts.

Nice countryside stay

Spent 10 days, it’s a lovely property with a little private garden. The bed is comfortable and the kitchen is well appointed. Yarwell is an amazing small village location, lots of great walks, park for the kids, and a fabulous butcher just over in Nassington. Very idyllic. Paul was communicative, prompt, and understanding for the duration of our stay.

Secret Garden Review

Cottage was excellent. Exactly as described. Easy access to restaurants and trains to London if needed. Nice garden space. Hosts were very friendly and even helped with our dogs a bit when we had a theatre day in London. This was much appreciated. We loved it and would stay again if they would have us.

Great location

On opening the door we were greeted by a light bright living area and a strong smell of cigarette smoke. The handle on the toilet cistern came off in your hand and the flush temperamental. We enjoyed the location of this property and the variety of walks from the door and surrounding area. We did feel that it was in need of some tlc to update the freezer and frying pans and addition of a heated towel rail to air and dry the towels

Lovely stay

We had a lovely stay at this property. It felt very peaceful, being a converted Chapel. It was secluded and not overlooked, so we found it to be a relaxing visit. Paul was helpful and gave us all the information and help we may have needed. The village it is situated in is rural, but not too far from a couple of towns. All in all a lovely stay.

Relaxing and little wifi

We had a relaxing time here, enjoyed our stay of two weeks so we could see the sights and just chill for awhile. Dogs Alfie and Henry lovable lads (Henry “welcomed” us every time!) and owners friendly and knowledgeable. Recommend lasagna at the Angel pub nearby. TV reception not always reliable nor wifi - had to sit outside for slow reception; luckily it was beautiful weather!

Just what we wanted.

I had a lovely few days at Candlelight Cottage. Have not visited the area before and thought Yarwell and surrounding villages were charming. The cottage was very well equipped and the welcome gifts, including a ball for my dog, were very thoughtful.

Great location

Really good location. Central to Stamford, Rutland Water etc. Took us a while to get used to the mattress (a little uncomfortable for us). Friendly owners and dog friendly.

Secluded, quiet, clean, all necessities available, owner welcoming and friendly.

Attractive, different, comfortable. Parking easy. Local facilities good. The Angel pub does excellent pub grub and is very welcoming. Village shop a mile away in Nassington. Lots of walking routes to Wansford, Nassington and along the river Nene. Yarwell convenient for accessing Stamford , Peterborough - can use the Nene Valley Railway as a Park and ride to Peterborough centre. Rutland Water has very good visitor facilities including a beach complex. Attractive villages in local stone similar to the Cotswolds and small towns such as Oakham not far plus historic houses. Roads not too busy. All 4 of us enjoyed a relaxing week in beautiful surroundings.
