About this property

Pohnpei Family Bungalow

Welcome to the Pohnpei Island Family Bungalow at Diekot - a small bungalow with open-floor plan and small alcove with kitchenette on the top floor. Ideal for couple or small family on vacation. Sleep island style on the tile or on a floor mattress. Tall windows give the impression of sleeping in a tree house where you can enjoy a peaceful stay off the grid. There is no air conditioning as the house is cooled naturally by ocean breezes every day. Listen to the waves crash on the barrier reef or listen to the plane land once a day.

There is no wi-fi, internet connection, or telephone - Sorry but you must walk down the road to catch a cellphone signal. On good days catch a signal under the dipwop (Indian Almond) tree in the yard.

The main feature in our home are the tall windows that invite you to relax and enjoy the view. One can hear the waves crashing on the reef in the background. The sun rises in the windows and every morning you will hear the Pohnpei Serehd (small parrots) calling amongst the trees. Sometimes you will hear planes landing and taking off at the end of the airport runway.

You are off the grid in this home - take a walk 1/2 a mile down the street to catch a cell phone signal for quick call or to check your email. Make sure you visit FSM Telecom first to purchase a SIM card and data or minutes.

Come, relax and enjoy nature at the Pohnpei Island Bungalow at Diekot!

This place is a real disaster. I booked it a few weeks in advance. The host first contacted me mentioning she did a double booking and if I was OK to occupy the downstairs only. That without rebate. Since at that point I was a bit short on time I agreed. I contacted the host 2 days prior arrival mentioned I would not have data and asked if there was wifi on property. She said no but suggested I would get a sim card at FSM in Kolonia. Upon arrival I went to town and got a sim card. When I connected I found a msg from the host mentioning Auntie Rose was waiting for me at the airport. The host provided a cell phone for Auntie Rose which never worked all PM (I tried 15 times). I mentioned I would walk to the property. I did not mind the walking but very mean/dangerous dogs along the way. Once at the property the sim card did not have data coverage. I went back and force from the house to a connectable area (1/4 mile away) and kept sending msg to the host, provided my local number, called the phone # provided and asked for an alternative one. I waited close to 2h and with no success left. I did not see the inside but it is really a schack in the middle of no where. The immediate outside and what I could see inside is extremely dirty and clearly not what the photos portray. This is the worse experience I ever had. Terrible property and terrible host.

Hi - I used to live on the property but since I've been working and living in the United States, I've been working with family members on Pohnpei to open the house to guests. In Pohnpei we believe that homes that are not occupied deteriorate faster and it's better for a home to have "angin aramas" or the spirit of people around. So we have opened up our home on AirBnb and invite you to come and stay with us while you visit Pohnpei.

Why they chose this property

Unique home that takes advantage of its natural surroundings to give you a genuine island experience. Our property is located the base of the striking landmark feature of Sokehs Rock that welcomes you to the island when you land and take off. You will also have the opportunity to be disconnected from the telephone or any cell connection - how often can one genuinely do that? Visit any local restaurant, bar or the Telecommunications Authority if you need to get online. If you want to unplug, take back your time and enjoy peace and quiet, come to the Island Family Bungalow at Diekot.

What makes this property unique

Rest and Relaxation. Access to the ocean from the backyard - good for swimming or fishing or water spelunking (all at your own risk please!).
