Our large AIR CONDITIONED (Recently added) apartment has a private entrance, lush tropical lanai, gas grill, and outdoor patio set. A beautifully furnished living room, dining room, bedroom with queen-size bed, bath, full kitchen, two cable TV's, Wi Fi Internet connections, books and games, and a fold-out couch/futon is adjacent to the dining room. The large master bedroom has a king-size bed and full bath, and a TV. The second bedroom has a queen bed and can be closed off from the living room. The apartment sleeps up to five. We do not accept parties greater than five.
Upon confirmation of your reservation we will need your arrival and departure times. It is very easy to find Hale Kai. We will provide our address once your booking is complete. Check-in time is 3 p.m. and check-out is 10 a.m.

suited our needs wonderfully

This is a fantastic place to stay. My adult daughter and I had a wonderful week here. It is very well resourced, very private and silent, and most importantly just a house block from the beach. We mastered the buses, walked into the town and got the bus a couple of times to Ala Moana et al and very happily came home to Kailua. We also used Ubers as we didn't have a car. The apartment is not air conditioned. As Australians used to our own summer heat this didn't worry us.Our stay was in July and it wasn't all that hot. I do hope to come back here one day.

A great place to stay.

We had a wonderful stay at this fantastic property. The unit contained everything we needed (drip and keurig coffee makers, cooking equipment, a safe for valuables, a printer, etc). The unit is as shown in the photos, however, the photos do not convey the charm of the rooms, the beauty of the tropical backyard, and the convenience of the short walk to the beach. Beach access is at the center of Kailua Beach, great vantage point for sunrises and starting beach walks. It's between public accesses to the beach, so it's less crowded on the weekends. It's a slight walk into town, and there is a bus stop very close if you want to take advantage of the public transportation (we took the bus to and from Honolulu). Hosts, Shari and Chuck, are on site and wonderful. They insured all our needs and questions were taken care of

Visiting family for the holidays

Very comfortable home about three houses away from the beach (through locked gate). We were very busy with family events, but it was nice to stay in a quiet neighborhood home instead of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. Having a kitchen and a washer and dryer in the unit was very convenient. Shari and Chuck were great hosts.

Peaceful retreat

My husband and I stayed for 3 weeks. We found the place to be very relaxing and just what we were looking for. So close to the beach and centrally located to all areas on the island. Highly recommend for a laid back experience.

Literally steps from the sand - About a 45 second stroll from gate to gate!

The rental was hot when we checked in at 4PM, but it aired out quickly thanks to fans, and a portable AC unit. Air circulates well when the windows and sliders are open. Lots of sunlight shines through, so it can warm up quickly if you don't get ahead of the heat. The rental was stocked with paper goods, soaps, and trash bags, and was kept pretty clean - rinsing off under the outdoor shower helped to keep the sand and dirt out. Having a washer and dryer, a full kitchen, and a BBQ in the private back yard was nice to have, too. There were a few cooking basics in the fridge and cupboard, but Target and Foodland were close by. There were plenty of dine-in options nearby, but pots, pans, and even an Instant Pot slow cooker were available for us to use to prepare meals when we didn't want to go out to eat. We didn't see a first aid kit anywhere, but luckily we didn't need one. The host did enter the property about 1.5 wks into our stay, which is not what we're used to at all, and it was a complete surprise... but with that being said, we're not the type of family that trashes rentals, we don't travel with our valuables, and nothing we brought with us went missing, so although it was kind of a big deal, it wasn't a truly big deal for us. The hosts communicated well and often, and were overall great. Mahalo plenty, Shari and Chuck, we look forward renting your property again for our next visit home!

Great location but less than adequate amenities

On the plus side, the location is quiet, lovely, and next to the beach as promised. It's near many amenities and restaurants. The owners are very nice and gave us privacy. The downside was that the house was poorly supplied and not well kept. Toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap were limited or missing altogether. When we turned on the garbage disposal, rotten food came out of it. There is no AC so the rooms get very hot. The portable fans were covered in dust so we had to clean them before use. We also had to wipe down the counters and tables as they had dust or water spots on them. There was used dental floss in the bathroom garbage. Lastly, very little in the way of window coverings so there was no way to filter sun/lights in the rooms or have much in the way of privacy. Highly unlikely that we will use this house again unless changes are made.

Great getaway place!

The owners were very accommodating and the place was absolutely wonderful!! We loved being so close to the beach, just steps away!! The town is in walking distance and there are lots of great restaurants and stores to explore. The place was very comfortable. We enjoyed the outdoor shower after the beach and the bbq was great to have since the place gets so hot and we didn't want to turn the stove or oven on! The only thing I would recommend to the owners is to invest in air conditioning. They do have a lot of fans and one small air-conditioner in the main room but they are all very loud at night when sleeping. There is a nice breeze that comes through but on really hot days it gets quite hot inside even with the fans. Thanks so much we loved our stay!!.

Wonderful Stay!

Shari and Chuck are the very best hosts. We really enjoyed our stay at their home. It had everything that we needed and more. The tropical patio was so much fun when we had family over. We slept great to the sound of the ocean and the February breeze that blew into our room. We will be back!

Steps to the beach

This place has the essentials for a complete experience at (in my opinion) the best beach on Oahu. The distance to the beach is about a 100 steps. The only negative is during the heat of the day the rooms can get warm. The hosts do provide a number of fans which keep the air moving. Shari and Chuck are wonderful and attentive hosts.

We loved the location! Three houses away from the beach is awesome. Although there is no designated parking spot, with the rental being located on a private street we had no issues with parking. The rental was very warm. The small portable ac unit and fans were helpful but even with them, the unit was still very warm. Not very breezy because of the privacy wall surrounding the rental. The closeness to Kailua town was great, just a short drive away to awesome stores and food. We would stay there again in a heartbeat if the unit was completely air conditioned and if they got new beds. Shari and Charles were very kind and welcoming during our whole stay. We enjoyed the conversations with them. They are great hosts. Very accommodating and helpful.

Amazing stay in Kailua

We were able to enjoy Cheri and Chuck’s Kailua home for over two weeks and it pained us to leave. The house was exactly 100 steps from the entrance to one of the most beautiful private beaches you can find…enough said. The house was warm..being July…but had a small room ac unit and plenty of fans…which helped a bit. Other than that, the home had a fun vibe rage Hawaiian beachy feel. We loved it! Beautiful escape

This location was incredible! The proximity to private access to the beach, the comfortable homie feel of the house, the friendly and helpfulness of the owners, the breathtaking Lanai!!! This place was amazing! If you are looking for a spot to get away and feel like it's private and tropical but be close to everything, then this is the spot!!! I highly recommend this place! I'd give it a 10 if I could!

Just 2 houses from the beach with a private path only accessible to the people on the street. We loved our stay for a family of 5. Kailua is the best beach on Oahu!

Great location, comfortable home

This property was wonderful and I highly recommend it. Most importantly, the beach is a 30 second walk. There are boogie boards, towels, bags, and chairs to use. It is a 5-10 minute drive to restaurants and shopping in a charming small town. It is also only 30-40 minutes from the city (airport, Waikiki, Pearl Harbor.) We were able to drive all over the island from our house. Any time we needed the owners, Shari responded immediately. This cute home made our vacation so enjoyable!

Our home is unique in that our rental is attached to the main house with just one common wall. guests have their own private entrance and all the amenities of a conventional home, including their own lushly landscaped tropical lanai. The fact that the property is not a stand alone home gives us the opportunity to offer beachside living at a very affordable price.

In order to comply with Honolulu vacation rental rules, we only rent to one party in any 30 day period. Shorter stays are possible, please request dates that you would like to book we will reply.
