Beautiful home

This is an amazing house on an amazing property. The house is well appointed and spacious. The pool is enormous, and overlooks the river. We enjoyed watching the tour boats go up and down the river, and passing the goats and chickens on the road. The host has made it very comfortable. The only downside is it is an extremely twisty and steep road down to the house. But totally worth it for the serenity upon arrival.

By the riverside

The house had all the amenities necessary for a holiday with a family of various ages, in particular teenagers. The accommodation was excellent and the layout and facilities of the house and its grounds made the best of the location. The driveway in and out could be a bit daunting for some at first. Our stay was enjoyed by all the family.

Fantastic stay in the Douro valley

We spent 2 fantastic weeks in the beautiful house/ property of Maria-Aurestina and Manual. We were with 5 people so we had loads of space as the house can accommodate 8 to 19 people without problem. The house is extemely well équiped, nothing is missing, and everything in perfect state. The pool & garden are gorgeous, on the banks of the Douro. The calm is unbelievable and the nature beautiful, which really allows you to forget about everything and enjoy very relaxing holidays. This is the real differentiator with the other houses along the Douro: it has a direct access to it, and you can make use of the kayak and the 2 standup paddles available. Great for the teenagers… and for the adults. The house is also well situated to visit North Portugal main sites: Porto , Braga, Guimaraes, Aveiro and of course the beautiful Douro wineyards. And the weather was beautiful, but not too warm (between 25 and 32). And the river always brings a little bit of fresh air. And surprisingly, almost no mosquitos. Fabulous.

2 dream weeks in the Douro

We enjoyed a great 2 weeks holiday in the Douro. Maria Aurestina and Manuel are very nice hosts : helpful & kind and not intrusive. Getting there feels like you are going to dive in the Douro, but then you are rewarded with the most fantastic of location. The beauty of the nature and the calm is absolutely magic. The house is beautiful, clean, very large and very well equipped. We were 5 , so at ease as it can easily accommodate for 8 or a little more. The pool is gorgeous , and the icing on the cake is the private access to the Douro with the Kayak and 2 stand up paddles which you can use. This is great for the teenagers ( and for the adults). All this with the Douro sun makes you feel at home and you don’t want to move anymore. Nevertheless, the location is fine to visit Porto, Guimaraes and Braga, and great to spend a day in the fabulous Alto Douro vineyards. We even went to Aveiro still very reachable for a fine day out. Fantastic place, we really hope to come back

Spectacular villa on the river Douro

A beautifully situated and gloriously remote riverfront villa with direct access onto the Douro for swimming, paddle-boarding and kayaking. The house and grounds are fabulous, well maintained and equipped, incredibly spacious (the photos on the listing don’t do it justice) and the location is peaceful with spectacular views of the river and mountain side opposite. Plenty of lovely Portuguese towns, vineyards and sites of interest are within an hour’s drive of the villa. The town of Marco de Canaveses (about a 20 minute drive) has plenty of good supermarkets if you are largely self-catering. Helpful information on restaurants, wine tasting vineyards and local Boat tours is provided by the owners in the villa. The owners are very helpful and any queries before and during our stay were answered quickly.

Big house with beautiful views

The views are stunning. The pool was great with temperatures outside between 35-39 degrees. Young and old(er) enjoyed it. The location is a bit remote, so going out for dinner is a good drive away. There are several options for walks in the area, with variations in scenery.

Very nice villa!

Overall very good experience! Complicated to get there and the owner do not speak English, but they provided a translator which was super helpful! The view and the amenities are well worth it!

Semana férias com família e amigos

A casa está muito bem localizada, com acesso fácil ao rio e tem excelentes condições interiores e exteriores. Local sossegado ideal para disfrutar de uns dias de descanso e usufruir do rio. Os anfitriões são muito simpáticos e disponíveis. A Sra. da padaria que nos entregou o pequeno almoço cada manhã é também muito simpática e com enorme vontade de ajudar. Excelente experiência!

Amazing stay!

The house is just amazing, as well as the owners. The house is huge, the landscape just beautiful. You have everything you may need for a great stay, from the spacious kitchen and living room, to an amazing pool and the direct access to the river with complementary SUP boards. Bedrooms are also perfect and easily accommodate 4 couples. Make sure you bring everything you may need for the stay and you will not want to go anywhere while you are there. The owners you very responsive and helpful either before and during the stay and even suggested a great homemade delivery food service that was so convenient and delicious!

Great place IF...

In our opinion, the location of property and the amenities (swimming pool, river activities, and outdoor space) are best suited for summer months/warm weather. This is not a property for cool weather and we found it difficult to do anything else in the immediate area. The house is lovely, the grounds spectacular, and access to the river is spot on. Owner and family were very friendly and approachable.

Wonderful!

We were a party of 9 - four adults and 5 kids aged 6-14 and we had a wonderful time! Idyllic and private location, wonderful (beautifully equipped) villa topped off with riverside access. Super super holiday and Celia (the owner) and her parents (who were there to welcome us with her friend Martin to translate) were both charming and always available when we had any questions. The neighbours were also lovely - after an electrical storm we couldn’t find the trip box for the downstairs electrics but they came down and made us good! Thanks to all and we hope to see you all next year!

Family holiday July 2019

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely villa in its absolutely beautiful location. We had a few difficulties finding it initially, but once there were very happy. The villa is well equipped and comfortable, and the pool and grounds well kept. We did not tire of watching the daily activities on the river, or the wildlife. The family owners were also very nice, as were the local neighbours that we came across during our stay. We would definitely be tempted to return.

MARAVILLOSA

Fuimos tres parejas con cuatro niños a pasar tres noches a esta propiedad, disfrutamos muchísimo de la casa y el entorno maravilloso. La casa está súper completa sobre todo si te gusta cocinar, celebramos nuestra cena y fiesta de fin de año y encontramos todo lo que necesitamos para hacer nuestro menú, simplemente espectacular. El resto de la casa muy confortable y amplia, habitaciones confortables con buenas camas, baños muy completos, jardines, y espacios al aire libre para niños y adultos, acceso privado al río, en invierno no puedes hacer mucho pero en verano tienen kayaks y muchas actividades outdoor. La comunicación con los propietarios estupenda y muy proactiva, nos enviaron antes de nuestra llegada un completo dossier con actividades y sitios recomendados por la zona para comer, rutas de senderismo visitas a bodegas ,etc, y también información sobre direcciones que fue muy útil ya que el acceso a la casa es algo complicado sobre todo si se llega de noche, pero con las indicaciones no hay mayor problema y la privacidad que se disfruta en la casa y en la zona es muy agradable. Totalmente recomendable!! volveremos seguro en verano para disfrutar de la piscina y de las actividades que no se pueden hacer en invierno.

Heerlijk familiehuis!

Eind oktober met 8 personen (waarvan twee tieners) in dit heerlijke huis gezeten. Het weer was fantastisch waardoor we uitgebreid genoten hebben van het zwembad en de subs plus kajak. De keuken is geweldig uitgerust en we hebben heerlijk kunnen koken en bbq-en. De mannen hebben gevist. Op advies van de eigenaren ook een dag een bootje gehuurd met 8 personen. Dankzij de charmante Marco was ook dat een succes! Voor de boodschappen zijn wij toch steeds naar de grotere supermarkt 20 min verderop gegaan. In directe omgeving is er behalve wandelen niet veel te doen. Maar een beetje rondtoeren vonden wij ook leuk. Porto ligt op 1.5 uur rijden. De laatste smalle en stijle 200 meter beneden naar het huis vergt voor de eerste keer stuurmanskunst en durf. Het advies is om geen grote auto of busje te huren met een automatische handrem, maar met een zelf aan te trekken handrem. Na de eerste keer is het prima te doen en leer je dat je moet steken op de korte horizontale vlakken. Een aanrader vanwege de prachtige ligging en het ruime goed ingerichte huis met de vele watermogelijkheden.
