Peaceful retreat

We loved the beautiful home and quiet lake. We enjoyed swimming off the dock, sitting on the porch under brilliant stars and our day trip to Montreal. Thank you!

Upper Chat Lake Montgomery Style

Very private with trails to lake and other camps. Private road for bike riding and walking. Lake access great for swimming, kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding. Boat and pwcs are able but make other plans for them close to boat launch.

ADK adventure

Great place to bike, swim, kayak, have camp fires, and hike. The Montgomery house has two large bedrooms, an awesome screened in porch, large dining area, and a wrap around deck overlooking the lake. An over abundance of kitchenware make the kitchen a little cramped. Five stars for the prompt communication with the host.

Peaceful Week at the Lake

We had a great time enjoying the quiet of the lake, listening to the loons, sitting by the campfire, boating, kayaking and getting out on the quiet dirt road for morning runs. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Nice time away

Our stay was very nice. The house was what we expected. It being a ways outside of town, we brought more than we probably needed, but the few items we did forget were at the house for our using. Keep in mind that this is more of an off grid, rustic spot. Karen, the owner, was very pleasant to speak with. My only advice to future renters- the road to the house is very tight and grown in and extremely bumpy. So be ready for that. If you are towing, I would advise to drive to the house without the trailer first. I had a large boat (26-28' with the trailer) and almost could not get turned around to get back out. Some of the turns were so tight, I was breaking tree branches as I went through. Overall though, we had a nice, relaxing time and would certainly rent here again. Thank you.

Lake Camp

It's a great house, amazing property on the lake. There were no issues with the solar power, we did not need the generator at all. Communication with owner was great, we had an issue finding the place (our fault) and they responded immediately and got us on track. We didn't like getting an email a few days before saying we needed to bring our own towels/bed linens as we were travelling cross country and not prepared for that. They said this would be ok but we had to wash and dry all linens/towels prior to leaving even though we were charged a cleaning fee. So, we were up early morning before heading to the airport to get all towels/linens cleaned before we left. The people prior to us hung some sets of sheets on the clothesline. Unfortunately they put the sheets over the clothespins so they blew off and were in a planter bed. We had to wash these upon arrival.

Wonderful stay in ADK!

We throughly enjoyed being unplugged during our stay! We paddled, kayaked, canoed, swam, hiked nearby Lyon Mountain and had s’mores by the campfire! This is a gem in the northern woods that is worth the effort to get to!

Quiet, peaceful, beautiful

Exactly as advertised. Totally private, views are stunning. The screened-in porch was fantastic. Host was accommodating and easy to work with. Had a great experience, and everyone in our party loved the place. If you want to enjoy the lake and really get away from it all, you'll be pleased that you decided on this property.

Private relaxing Adirondack get-away

Amazing, scenic views from all over the property. Large gorgeous home in a private, beautiful setting.. Enjoyed watching the loons and listening to their evening calls. Loved canoeing, kayaking ,paddle boarding ,and tubing with the glorious mountains all around. Everything we needed was provided. Easy to relax anywhere, but best views were off the platform deck. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Melody P.

Peaceful, private, relaxing getaway!

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property. The lakefront setting was perfect, and we enjoyed the deck, dock, boats, and especially yoga on the platform by the water! We had some colder, rainy days, but enjoyed our off-the-grid time inside in the cozy house as well. We had no concerns with the power or propane appliances - everything worked great. The house was well-stocked with literally everything we needed! Thanks so much for a great vacation!

Beautiful secluded paradise

The Heath’s have a magical piece of property that is very private and well-equipped to allow you to have the perfect stay. Lots of kayaks and boats between the properties and plenty of room to walk around. The house was very clean and had many blankets, books, kitchen supplies, and games to make the stay very comfortable. The lake was very clean and relatively quiet. Make sure to pack plenty of bug spray because we did have some trouble with mosquitos. One of our favorite parts of this stay was the lakeside yoga deck. Our 13-year old caught about 12 fish during the week. We all hope to be back soon!

Wow, what a magical place.

This property is worth the drive up. The lake is crystal clear! The docks and boats are so fun! Cosy sleeping situations! Great fire pit! The generator worked great and super easy to figure out! There is not a single complaint about this place! I will dream about coming back here!

Wonderful rural family retreat

My family and I spent a long weekend at Karen's property on Upper Chateaugay and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We were looking for a rural spot to spend time together, enjoy the lake, and enjoy some R&R in nature. The house itself was very spacious and cozy - the pictures don't do it justice. The property was very isolated; some neighbors on plots of land nearby, but no one within sight from the house. The grounds are lovely - complete with many places to relax and well-groomed trails across the property leading you to the lake, the sandy entry point, the platform, and a sweet little sitting area. We found all the cooking supplies we needed in the kitchen to prepare meals and were very pleased Karen allowed us to use the firewood stored at the house to make a fire each night. While some travelers may be wary of the generator and propane kitchen appliances, we had no issue. The appliances work all the time, even the stove. And there is hot water for showers without using the generator. It truly was one of the most peaceful family vacations we've had :) Thank you again, Karen, for opening your home to us! I hope we'll be back at some point in the future.

Ideal Covid Relief

Spectacular property on a beautiful lake. very quiet and cool temprature which was a welcome relief from the heatwave at home in MA. House is charmingly furnished with all needed cooking equipment and a large fireplace. Was great eating breakfast and table on outside deck, swimming, kayaking and hiking along road. Read many hours in hammock on the lawn. Minimal problems from bugs which was also a change from home. Owner responded in a friendly, timely manner to all questions. Would definitely stay again and already miss the property. Rob Murphy

Fabulous vacation rental.

Our stay at Montgomery House was great! Lots of family space. A great kitchen. Lovely 3 sided screened in room. Awesome decks. Chateaugay Lake is, indeed, pristine. With enough planning, the generator supplies more than enough electricity to fill daily needs. In fact, it was nice to have to shut down and read an actual book. I will say that anyone with little kids or dogs that don't jump off of docks easily, the shoreline is pretty inaccessible.

Large, beautiful, private property overlooking Upper Chateaugay Lake

We loved our week here! Pros: - Lovely and spacious home, well stocked with everything you could need - Very private - Fabulous views of the lake - Two great decks - Large enough to accommodate bigger groups - Host is very responsive and helpful Cons (these weren't deal breakers for us, but minor inconveniences): - This is a large house with plenty of beds, but only two bedrooms. For our family, another bedroom would have been great. - Access to the lake isn't easy. For anyone with balance issues, the winding, gnarled paths to the water are a little challenging (although the hand rail to the swimming dock is very helpful). - A propane grill would have been more convenient than charcoal, but that's probably because we're used to propane at home...

Beautiful!

Beautiful home with a beautiful view of the lake. Everything we were looking for and more. Very peaceful and secluded. Would highly recommend if looking for a place to stay to get away from everything and relax. Although electricity is used by a generator, you rarely use it, since refrigerator, stove and hot water was propane and home had large windows all around for natural light nas a lovely fireplace to sit by at night. Host was very responsive. Thanks for everything! Hope to stay again.

Secluded Lakefront Property

Pros : Beautiful views of the lake from the deck. Well-stocked kitchen. Great room was brightly lit from the many windows. More than enough linens available. Cons : Must use generator for electricity. Owner wanted limited use but you must use it to have the pump work to get water and for lights. Propane refrigerator is not convenient. Entrance 2 miles on a bumpy, dirt road is not easy.

Bright, airy and peaceful!

Loved our week here! First time renting after 20+ years renting elsewhere on the lake. Adirondack Contemporary describes it well. Very large living/dining room which is bright and open, great on a rainy day with kids! Bedrooms on a separate wing - separates early risers and sleepers. Off the grid, but generator use is well described and easy. Actual water pressure in the showers! Happened to meet the caretakers, a very nice and helpful local couple. Two docks on the lake, a deck just off the living room and a platform near the lake provide a lot of ways to enjoy the lake. A short boat ride to a public beach.
