A Blowing Rock Property: Ideal location for a summer get-away!

Welcome to our mountain home!

The mountain view is tremendous whether you love watching the sunrise at the start of the day or are more of a sunset person! Enjoy relaxing in the rockers on the large deck with a mountain view, or perhaps some time in the Jacuzzi is a more your idea of total relaxation! Spend some time on the deck sitting around our gas fire pit. Your dogs are welcome to join you on your getaway as well.

Our home is located at an elevation of 4,500 feet on Appalachian Ski Mountain in Blowing Rock. The main level consists of a comfortable living room with a 50-inch smart TV w/cable and DVD, stone fireplace with gas logs (operated with a remote control mounted on the wall) and leather recliner sectional sofa and 2 leather recliners with ottomans.

The dining area has large windows to view the mountains, There is a large table with seating for 6, a small table with seating for 2--3, and a bar with 4 stools.

The kitchen is fully-equipped with dishwasher, microwave, Keurig and drip coffee-makers, coffee bean grinder, toaster, 2 crock pots, toaster oven, disposal, food processor, side-by-side refrigerator with icemaker and water and ice dispensers, glass-top range, disposal, cookware, extra large set of china and flatware.

The master suite (main level) has a king bed, cable 55-inch smart TV, private bath with glass-enclosed shower, and doors to the large wrap-around deck with the beautiful, covered hot tub overlooking the surrounding mountains.

The main level also has a smaller 2nd bedroom with king bed, cable TV (Smart TV), and full bathroom (shower/tub).

Upstairs is a king bedroom with picture windows to view the mountains and overlooking the play area in the yard. It has a king bed, cable smart TV, and rocking chair.

The second bedroom upstairs has 2 double beds and also has a smart TV. There is a full bathroom with walk-in shower upstairs.

Our A/C company has expanded our system--adding new vents upstairs and new ductwork for better flow of cool air to the upper level. There is a thermostat upstairs to allow that level to have its own desired temperature. The system is correctly operating at full power--cooling down to 60 degrees!

All mattresses and box springs are encased in certified bed bug protective covers for your safety.

The yard is large and relatively flat with a playground for kids and benches to sit and gaze at the views.

We were very fortunate that we did not have any damage or water issues to our home from Hurrican Helene.

Great Stay in Blowing Rock
We stayed here for 4 days with family just before Christmas in Dec 2024. The listing was very accurate and all communication with the host was answered very quickly. I thought the price was reasonable compared to other listings in the area. The size was perfect for 5 adults and 3 kids. This home is located in Blowing Rock very close to Appalachian Ski Mountain. We are not skiers but I could see how this home would be ideal for someone coming to ski. The view is outstanding and we saw some pretty incredible sunrises. It snowed one night while we were there and the host had a crew stop by and shovel the driveway for us. The home is clean and tastefully decorated. There are plenty of amenities available (large deck, fire pit, hot tub, etc) but we were too busy to use most of them. We visited the Tweetsie Christmas Railroad about 10 minutes away and the kids loved it. We also went shopping in Blowing Rock and tubing at Hawks Nest about 30 minutes away. Boone is also a short drive away and has some very good restaurants (don't miss the Daniel Boone Inn for a family style dinner). If you are looking for a quiet getaway with a terrific view, this is it. Karen is a terrific host and we will definitely consider this home again for a family vacation.

Tweetsie Christmas
This was a great place to stay for a family of 10 ranging in ages 2-82. Everything we needed and plenty of space. The house was very clean and is in an excellent location. We were very close to Tweetsie and surrounding attractions/shopping in Blowing Rock and Boone. Owners were also very accommodating in letting us stay a few hours longer because of ice.

The location was convenient to Blowing Rock and Boone. The view was fabulous, and we enjoyed sitting outside and watching the wildlife. The neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful. However, the home is old and dated which makes it feel dirty.

Great for families
Really nice home with ample space for our extended family. Having three “master bedrooms” and a kids room was exactly what we needed for my my wife and I along with our son’s family and my daughter’s family to stay all together. The kitchen has plenty of room to prepare breakfasts and dinners and the large deck provided a nice place to watch the clouds rise up from the valleys in the mornings. We all had a great time.

Good mtn view; refreshing
Accurately portrayed in description and photos. High mountain view and breezes. Good deck and yard and hottub so neighbors are not close/visible. Ample parking, easy to enter house and secure it. Love the 3 king bedrooms and one with 2 doubles. Saw deer daily, wild turkeys, birds, etc. Close to Boone and Blowing Rock.

Another great Family Reunion stay!
This is our third year of staying at this property. It is always clean and user friendly. Directions for using fireplace, hot tub, internet, etc. are clear and easily understood. The owner/host is responsive and easy to work with. I have two 6ft 4in sons....so the king sized beds in multiple rooms are a real plus for us. The deck is expansive...the views are wonderful. Proximity to fun activities (rafting, tubing, amusement park, etc.) makes it great. We are already planning for next year

Comfortable Home
Host is very communicative, house was comfortable, and there was plenty of room for seven of us. The back deck, yard, and view were great, and the beds were fine (although I brought my own pillow which I think helped). We really appreciated having real cable in the family room and bedrooms, and not having to rely on streaming services to use a TV. Our only gripe, and it mattered to us, was how warm the two upstairs bedrooms were. They were consistently very warm, while downstairs was downright chilly (only because we made it chilly in an attempt to get it cooler upstairs). The fans upstairs were very different than the ones downstairs, as they had very low settings and didn’t move much air. Other than the heat upstairs, we had a great time, had plenty of hot water, plenty of bedrooms and places to sit and relax (inside and out), and had plenty of parking for two cars (and I imagine we could have fit in a third if we had to). And like I said before, the host was very responsive and that can make all the difference in a stay!

Great weekend in the mountains
All in all the house was great. Beds are super comfortable. The hot tub was wonderful. The location was perfect. Just a couple improvements would go a long way. Get new towels (I had to wash them before we used them because they smelled bad). They really need to be replaced. Also the coffee machine needs to be replaced. Was impossible to make a pot without grounds getting in the coffee. Those 2 improvements would make a huge difference. Everything else was great. We had a fabulous time !!

Wonderful House!!
This is our second time staying here! It’s perfect for our family! The location can’t be beat. We come to ski and shop! Appalachian skiing is 5 minutes down the mountain! Blowing Rock is 10 minutes down the mountain. The kitchen is well equipped and the washer and dryer are such a nice amenity to have! If I had to say anything negative, it would be that when the wind is blowing really hard, you can feel it through the back door!! But, to be fair, while we were there, it was 11 degrees and wind gusts of 35! We will definitely be staying there next year, too! We love it!!

Our host was amazing and very engaged in making our stay the best it could be! Prompt response to our questions. Nice older home was total package for our first ever ski trip in the midst of a brutally cold winter storm with wind chill near 20 below! Snow removal was quick each day! House is high on mountain so 4x4 or chains are a must in winter. Hot tub was amazing, whole family enjoyed it! Fireplace was super easy to use. Would definitely stay again!

Perfect Cozy Family Getaway
Look no further if you want a very clean, updated home in a great mountain location. This home has great amenities and plenty of comfortable beds. The master suite is spacious and relatively private to rest of house. My husband and I brought all food and gifts for Christmas weekend with our adult children and their spouses, and there was plenty of storage in this well decorated cozy abode. Kitchen has everything you need. Views of mountains are outstanding from dining and living areas as well as the warm, clean hot tub which an added bonus for hang outs.We laughed over games, worked together on puzzles, enjoyed Christmas movies in a warm living room with nice comfy furniture and easy to use gas logs. Spacious paved parking and good yard space, wrap around decks for getting outside. We also liked proximity between Boone and Blowing Rock. We hiked Mountains to Sea Trail at Rich Mountain, worshipped at great Christmas Eve service at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian in Blowing Rock. Owner was quickly responsive to my questions. Would definitely return to this s home any season!

Family getaway
My family wanted a getaway for a few days before the holiday to the mountains. The property was clean and looked like the pictures. The property is a little older, but clean and functional. The hot tub was amazing. Check in was easy and the owner was very nice and accommodating. The only thing I would say is the drive up was a little treacherous and I was glad we got there in the daytime.

About the host

While vacationing in Blowing Rock, my parents fell in love with the area and decided to begin looking for a home there. They found this home, but it needed a good bit of work. The mountain view was so wonderful though, they decided to purchase the home and begin renovations. They added an extra bedroom and full bath, put on the deck, bought a hot tub and added gas logs. They started on their landscaping projects soon thereafter and have continually added things to make the home more comfortable, while maintain its home-like feel. It was a second home for them and they decided to share it with guests who also enjoy a clean, comfortable home where they can relax and feel at home themselves, at an affordable cost.

Since that time, my parents have passed away, leaving the home in the care of our family. My husband and I take care of their home and enjoy working with the families who have come for many years, as well as welcoming the new guests who are visiting for the first time. Our home is child and dog friendly.

Many families come each year, making memories and spending time with their own families as they continue the tradition. Appalachian Ski Mt is in our neighborhood--just down the mountain from our back yard and we are a 5-minute drive from Tweetsie. Our home is located midway between Boone and Blowing Rock, so it convenient for Appalachian State University and all of the fun places in a nice college town as well as convenient for the unique restaurants and the scenic town of Blowing Rock.

My husband and I live in Greensboro, NC--a two-hour drive from our mountain home. Fortunately, we have excellent assistance with our incredible housekeeping team and handyman team and snow-clearing staff in the winter. We love having return guests and appreciate their suggestions on things they'd like us to add to our home for their next visit. Suggestions are encouraged and welcomed! We love our home and want you to love it as well.
Karen Priest Ritter

Why they chose this property

We love our neighborhood because it is very beautiful with trees and flowers and has gorgeous mountain views.
While you are here, you feel that you have really escaped from the noise and traffic, and busyness of life, yet you are 5 to 10 minutes away from all of the conveniences of modern life. There is a little neighborhood "library" with a bench that is a lovely place to sit and read or just commune with nature.

What makes this property unique

1. Gorgeous mountain view year-round! (just had the trees trimmed for an even better view)
2. Large paved parking area for 5 average-size cars
3. Hot tub, with large bath sheets for your use (in hamper by door to spa in large downstairs bedroom.
4.. Large deck with lots of chairs and side tables for enjoying mountain view
5. Large gas fire pit on the deck
6. Keypad entry for ease and security
7. Moderately firm mattresses for all king beds; less firm mattresses on double beds
8. Certified bedbug encasements for all mattresses and box springs
9. Private neighborhood--very quiet
10. Large back yard with swing set and slide and climbing rocks
11. 5-minute drive to Appalachian Ski Mountain ski slopes and ice-skating rink and Tweetsie Railroad
12. Located midway between Boone and Blowing Rock (10-minute drive each way)
13. Family-friendly home; pet friendly
14. 20+ years of experience in renting to families and groups of adult friends
15. Excellent reviews from our guests

Note: It is a 10-minute drive from Boone or Blowing Rock to our home. As you enter the neighborhood you will see the streets (about 1 mile's distance) are more narrow and somewhat curvy as you ascend the mountain. Two cars can pass if driving slowly. During wintery weather (snow and ice) the streets are scraped twice each day, but driving can be challenging. You may wish to consider 4-wheel drive based on your driving experience and comfort level. Our driveway is cleared during inclement weather.
