About this property

Magical house in a fantastic village

Small, delightful, mountain village houses don't get much better than this, and Casa Muñeca which sleeps 3 could not be situated in a more magical place. Located on one of the tangle of old narrow winding streets and lanes that make up the heart of the village, Casa Muñeca is located some midway between the apply named Eagle's Castle (Castillo del Águila) and the village center.

This Gaucín, single story house, cleaned and managed locally, has an abundance of style and immense warmth. Pretty as a picture inside, the house has the distinctive, traditional character of Southern Spain, with terracotta floors, hand-glazed local tiles, soft, relaxing colours and furnishings. For the cooler months an open log fire along with a gas fire and electric heating radiators, combine to give a warm cosy feel. Put simply Casa Muñeca stands out from other Andalucían cottages and combines the spectacular, breathtaking, natural surroundings of this part of inland Andalucía with excellent facilities - the kind of place you'll want to revisit time and time again.

A place where, from the terrace at the rear of Casa Muñeca, it's not unusual to see Eagles soaring overhead. Then looking down over the surrounding countryside towards the coast - over the valley of the Rio Genal, woods of Cork trees and craggy peaks - to see some 50 km distant, Gibraltar and the Mediterranean spread out below like some super sized map and on a clear day you can see beyond Europe over the straits of Gibraltar to Africa and the distant Rift mountains of Morocco.

Lovely house in beautiful village
My wife and I have been visiting Gaucin for nearly 30 years and Casa Muneca is, without doubt, one of the best houses we’ve stayed in during this time. Being older now, the house being all on the one level, with everything we needed close at hand, was an absolute boon. The owner, Philip, has decorated the house very tastefully and comfortably with lots of little touches which draw the eye. The view from the terrace across the campo down to Gibraltar, particularly in the evening sun, is wonderful and very peaceful. Agustina, the housekeeper, was very friendly and on hand should any assistance be required. All in all, this is a wonderful property and a real pleasure to visit.

a great place in a lovely location
Casa muneca is a cute little house, the perfect place for an andalucian summer : well isolated, well ventilated, etc. which means you can perfectly stay inside during the day or in the evening if you don't feel like going out. Its terrace offers a great view of the surroundings that allows you to see the marrocan coast when the sky is clear enough - which is the case most of the time. What else could you ask for ?

From the moment that we arrived after driving down from Bilbo’s we new this was going to be amazing
This quaint property offered everything you needed. It was beautiful furnished with breathtaking views off the patio and perfectly positioned. With so many restaurants to choose from and facilities available you were spoilt for choice. Augustina was simply wonderful and available at all times. We had a fantastic time and intend to return next year . We can’t recommend this enough.

Great casa in a lovely village
We had a great time staying in Gaucín. The casa was lovely and had everything we needed and was nice and clean. We enjoyed the views from the balcony and also making use of the fire to stay warm in the evenings. There are lots of nice walks to do close to the village.

Stunning village, perfect space, wonderful host
We loved everything about our stay in Gaucin at Casa Muñeca! The village is a perfect base for exploring the Genal valley area and Southern Spain either by foot or by car. It was lovely and quiet for our off season vacation. Though many shops and restaurants had closed for the season, we were able to easily find everything we needed. The Casa is small and perfectly fit our needs. Evenings were cool, but the electric heaters in the bedroom and bathroom along with the propane wall unit, wood burning fireplace and bed warmer kept us very comfortable. The kitchen is basic but equipped with all we needed to prepare many meals ourselves. We never tired of the amazing view from the terrace. Philip was a helpful and gracious host, quickly answering any questions we had. Having Agustina available locally provided wonderful peace of mind - and thank heavens for google translate and lots of hand gestures! There are wonderful hiking opportunities right from the door. The view from the top of El Hacho is breathtaking. Thank you Philip for sharing this space with us! It was very hard to leave.

Nice little house in a white mountain village
Casa Muñeca is very nice and completly as it is decribed. There is everything you need with nice beds, fully equipment in the kitchen, a nice livingroom to relax. The teracce offers stunning views and also every windows shows a different piece of Gaucin. The contact Augustina is very friendly and helpful and keeps the house very clean. If you stay longer than one week then you get fresh towels and linen once a week. The owner is very helpfull and fast in contact by email and also helps when there are problems as for example we had with some very loud young men in the neighbourhood and their disco music every evening. They did not react to our ask for less noise twice, but after Philip used his contacts in the town the noise was stopped completly and we could enjoy the rest of our holiday.

A fantastic village house, very nicely done
Gaucin is an enchanting town and this rental is so comfortable and well-equipped. A wonderfully authentic, whitewashed house with a fabulous view! It is nicely decorated with some interesting collection pieces. Spotlessly clean and nicely furnished, it lies in a quiet neighbourhood in a street with no cars, but close to the bars, restaurants and to the shops. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have stayed here and without doubt this was the best property we stayed in during our 5 week trip to Spain. Five stars from us.

Beautiful House in a Stunning Location
This was the second time we had stayed in Casa Muneca in the last 3 years. The house is in the centre of the village in a quiet location. It is clean, comfortable and very nicely furnished. We could see that a number of small improvements had been made which added even more to our very enjoyable stay. There are stunning views towards Gibraltar and Africa from the terrace, sun loungers to sunbath and relax on, the comfortable bed, the various artefacts added even further to the unique character of the house. The village is friendly with many bars and several good restaurants. In the house there were guide books about local walks which we found very useful and a wide selection of DVDs. Agustina who looks after the house was always on hand to answer questions. All in all this house offers all you could possibly want. Highly recommended.

Somewhat of a disappointment
Great views and location. However, there is no heating system if you hit a very cool week as we did last April. The fireplace is not enough to keep the house warm. We were always cold! Heatings pads in the bed did provide some relief at night. Also, the furniture looks much more tired than on the pictures. It is a sad looking place. The kitchen table needed repair. A dish rack would be useful. We could not recommend this place.

The balcony of the Serrania
The apartment mirrors the title of the little town Gaucin: "Le balcon de la Serrania". Sitting on the terrace of the apartment one has a spectacular view. At night you can see the lights of the cities situated at the Mediterranean Sea. The apartment has a personal touch, nicely decorated with lots of collection pieces. You have a spacious combined kitchen-dining-sitting room, two bedrooms (one with a double bed, one with a single bed) and a adequately sized bathroom again with a great view. The kitchen is fully equipped. The supermarket is in walking distance. There are a number of restaurants in town which serve good food for reasonable prices. It is very quiet, which makes you realize how much noise one usually is exposed to when living in a city. We had a very relaxing time and did great hikes in the vicinity. We can also recommend a day trip to Ronda (~1h driving) and to the coast (e.g. Marbella, ~1h driving).

Cosy, nicely furnished and well equipped
We loved the place, it had all we needed and more. The views are great, it lies in a quiet neighborhood, in a street with no cars, but close to the bars and restaurants and to the shops. Everything was perfectly taken care of by Philip, the owner, and Augustina, the local housekeeper. We absolutely recommend the place to people who love the peace and quiet in a beautiful mountain village.

The lovely ' dolls house' !
Our second trip to the property and we enjoyed it every bit as much! This time without the need for the log fire in January . Lovely village , lovely restaurants and lovely casa. The area is beautiful and exploring more of the quirky villages was really interesting . The 'dolls house' casa is well equipped , the bed and pillows are comfy and the view from the terrace is priceless.

This an excellent small cottage. Really it is an old village house, very nicely done.
The house is well oriented for the fabulous view and for sun and village noise. It is also well located for easy reach of everything in the village.

An amazing place to relax and chill
We had such a wonderful week in this gorgeous house! Once through the door, it is difficult to leave! Sitting out on the balcony watching the view was wonderful; you can see for literally miles and miles. Above eagles soar and sounds of the village below waft up to give a deliciously Spanish feel. We both love Gaucin and loved to stroll through the village. Locals are super friendly and everyone is welcoming. There are bars and restaurants to choose from, but we preferred our own version up on the terrace of Cass Muneca. The best all round views in town. We will definitely be back to stay here! It is not just what it says 'on the tin' but way more. Thank you to Phillip and Agustina! A great stay!

Cosy Casa in Beautiful Gaucin
My husband and I stayed here for three days in the middle of May 2017. We were lucky enough to be in Gaucin for the village's reenactment of the Napoleonic troops taking the city. That was truly something to see! When we first arrived we had a problem with the plumbing. We emailed Philip the owner and he got back to us immediately. Turns out the momentary problem was a fluke. No problems at all with the waterworks after that. We were very impressed with Philip's prompt reply and friendly suggestions and directions for orienting ourselves to this hillside town. Gaucin is an enchanting town and this rental is so comfortable and well-equipped. A wonderfully authentic whitewashed flat with a fabulous view!

Lovely house in fantastic place
Great little house, very comfortable and wonderful views from the balcony. Gaucin is a typical rural whitewashed village, uncommercialised but with plenty of bars and restaurants though and the people are very helpful and friendly. Agustina the local contact is delightful.

Perfect - Fantastic stay in Casa Muneca
We've had a fantastic stay Casa Muneca, the property is perfect, well equipped, comfortable and the location idyllic. Gaucin is a small friendly village with many bars that offer food and several restaurants that were better than average – we would single out particularly Platero & Co in this respect, but to give perspective time did not allow us to sample all of the 10? village restaurants. We only stayed a week in Casa Muneca and can truly say that we wished we had spent longer there. Our initial plans for exploring the area and long walks were with a couple of days abandoned as we settled in to the most relaxing and fulfilling holiday we have had for ages. We were undoubtedly seduced by the incredible views from the terrace of the house where we spent many hours relaxing and chilling out, sometimes sipping wine and watching eagles circling overhead and occasional seeing a small mule train clip clopping past the front door. The house was all you could ask for and more and we were left wondering how anyone could ever rent out such an idyll to strangers. If we had to sum up in a single word it would be ‘perfect’.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Muñeca. The location is great and we immediately felt right at home. There was everything we needed and more. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor patio and it's superb view. A great place to relax, have a glass of wine and enjoy the sunshine. Highly recommended.

In 4 days we experienced a fortnight's holiday in this magical place.
Gaucin is a warren of narrow streets with white houses, bars, restaurants tucked away in intimate corners. There are foreign visitors, like us, but it is still predominantly a Spanish town, full of friendly people ready to say hola! Our property is in the centre of activity but in a quiet lane. I won't describe it in detail, you can read that on the website, it's sufficient to say the view of the mountains from the terrace, with Gibraltar on the horizon, is breathtaking. Can't wait to come back.

Exquisite house, idyllic village & magical views
House was exactly as advertised. Agustina, the lady who met us was charming & allowed me to practice my Spanish. Very comfortable sofas, beds & everything you need in the kitchen. Views from every window & terrace & the village is so peaceful yet a hive of activity. Restaurants and bars welcoming with delicious food. We hope to return again. Very grateful to the owner in sharing his home.
