About this property

PS Moondog: Hip Iconic Architecture and Popular Palm Springs Neighborhood

Spin your way into our newest hip Palm Springs vacation rental – PS Moondog. This modernized midcentury classic was originally owned by renowned DJ Alan Freed, who coined the term ‘rock and roll’ for his 1950’s radio show “The Moondog Rock and Roll Hour.” Set against a beautiful view of the San Jacinto mountain, this home is a classic Palmer and Krisel designed, Alexander build on an expansive lot at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. Cool and colorful interiors, classic midcentury modern style and a large back yard with lots of amenities, it’s the perfect place to cool your jets and relax into the Palm Springs groove.

The home opens with all of the shared living space to the right and a hallway to the left that leads to all of the sleeping quarters. An open concept floor plan, the well-stocked kitchen offers a six-burner stove with side oven/warming station and granite island with counter seating and casual indoor dining for up to 6. The living room enjoys the classic post and beam ceiling, gas fireplace, and sliding glass doors from both the living room and kitchen/dining area. The living room has a large flat screen TV and satellite cable and plenty of seating and lounging.

Down the hall to the left, you have two bright, inviting guest rooms both with queen beds that share the remodeled guest hall bathroom with a walk-in, tiled shower. In the hallway, there is a stackable washer and dryer you may use to refresh your pool towels (provided) or that Tiny Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini! The master suite sits at the back of the home and offers a King size bed, built-in cabinets, a large flat screen TV with satellite cable, remodeled ensuite bathroom with walk-in tiled shower and glass slider access to the rear yard.

Outside has a Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On with a large bocce ball court, above ground spa with hydromassage precision jets, generous sparkling pool, outdoor shower, and plenty of room for your Hound Dog to roam. Exiting off the kitchen is your propane gas BBQ for easy access and a comfortable new seating area to lunge or catch up on life with your friends and family as well as a separate dining table for those sunset dinners and meals under the stars.

Located in historic Racquet Club Estates, the birthplace of the Alexander mid-century aesthetic, you're just minutes from downtown, the airport and restaurants. The neighborhood is rich with architecture and history. It should be noted the city has sound ordinances that are strictly enforced: there is no music outside, at all, at any time of day. People noise at a reasonable level is certainly allowed during the day. You should enjoy the pool and your friends and family. However, audible people noise must cease by 10 PM. The owner(s) like to stress this home is ideal for a dream vacation and relaxation but is by no means a “party-central” home. Each guest is expected to be as good a neighbor as the owner(s) themselves. Special events like weddings are NOT allowed.

Guest count: limited to 6 overnight guests (plus an optional two of those two are under the age of 12).
Parking: limited to 3 cars present at any time.

Simple Comfortable House

Management was responsive, very nice pool, heated appropriately. A wonderful park only 2 blocks away (great for dogs) and location was quite convenient. Barbecue worked well but limited outdoor lighting made using it somewhat difficult at night.

Perfection

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It could not have been more accurate to its description and photos. The pots and pans could use updating as most (if not all) were non-stick and coming apart, which can be toxic. The pool was divine and heated to perfection!

Mid Century Heaven

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: PS Moondog is something out of a 60’s postcard. From the outside architecture to the interior details this house is a gem. Well appointed with everything a couple or family would need for their stay. Quiet culde sac location in the storied RacquetClub Estates neighborhood which is close to the North Palm Springs storied stores and restaurants. Robert from Relax Palm Springs was extremely helpful with any request.

Amazing backyard

The backyard was the best! Between the pool, jacuzzi and large grass yard. We spent the majority of the time outside and it was perfect. Can be very windy at times.

Gorgeous pool close to downtown

We stayed here in early November, and the weather was perfect, as was the property. Listing was accurate and pictures do it justice- the nuance not explicitly called out is they charge for heating the pool and hot tub, but I assumed it would given all the other properties in the area do. The hot tub wasn’t working when we were there, and while frustrating, the weather was nice enough that we didn’t miss it. Something important for those visiting in warmer months- there was a sign asking us to not turn the AC below 75*, and as someone who normally sleeps at a much cooler temp, this was hard- but it was cool enough outside at night that we could cool the house at night in other ways. This would be really hard in the summer months, but I also wouldn’t go to Palm Springs/the desert in the summer anyhow. Standard Palm springs vacation rental laws apply- so if you’re not aware, Palm Springs has noise ordinances for vacation rentals that 1- no music outside at any time, period, and 2- quiet hours after 10pm and people shouldn’t be able to hear anything outside the house. Fine for us, but if you didn’t know, now you do :) Close to downtown but not walking distance, so you def need a car (which was fine- we didn’t want that close to downtown). Last thing I’ll add is the neighborhood is mostly vacation properties/rentals, which makes it prime for theft for things left out. The neighbor renting the house next to us told us her bike had been stolen from the backyard. It’s perfectly safe, but keep valuables inside/locked. Great for a couples or friends getaway, to relax and rest in a relaxing and quiet hoise/neighborhood.

Great house with a few caveats

We had a very good stay at the Racquet Club Estates...the host was easy to communicate with and check in was a breeze-the house was very clean, the beds, pillows and linens were very comfortable and kitchen has everything you need for cooking. I will say a few things about the property - one, upon arrival we were told what the zero tolerance noise ordinance really means- anywhere in palm springs when you rent a property you cannot have ANY noise coming from the rental- it was just the two of us, but we wanted to play a little music out by the pool- this is not permitted and is subject to a $1000 fine- I understand not wanting parties, but that is a bit extreme. Second, this property is located on the north end of town, so it is VERY windy- I was not familiar when I booked, but further south in town, the mountains will protect from the wind a bit more. Third, the photos of the property showed a private backyard- when we arrived, the backyard was not at all private- the neighbors cut down the bushes on the other side of the property so you can see straight into the backyard- I would check if this is remedied before booking if you care about privacy- overall we did enjoy our stay

Great house, pool, property

Everything about the property is EXACTLY as seen in the photos. It's spacious, comfortable, looks like what a Palm Springs mid-century house should look like. The kitchen had just about everything we needed to cook and grill (the range is either new or we were the first people to use the oven). Very much appreciated that the grill had been cleaned since last use (very often not the case in rentals). Bedding and towels were plush and comfortable; mattresses all very comfortable. Conveniently located to stores and downtown. Looking forward to our next Palm Springs visit.

Nice Enough But A Bit Disappointing

First I'd like to say that the Relax PS team was very responsive and helpful throughout our stay. Unfortunately, though, the house felt much smaller than advertised, and a bit rough around the edges (part of the backyard, for example, was covered in dirty pool toys and umbrellas when we arrived, and many of the walls looked scuffed). The heated pool and bocce court were great, and the kitchen well-stocked, but certain elements felt really rental-ly, like the couch, which was wildly uncomfortable. We ultimately enjoyed our time in Palm Springs but would look at other rental options next time.

Excellent, private relaxation

For our first "Covid" getaway, this property could not have been more perfect. It is located in a very quiet neighborhood, and if one wants to be left alone, order food for delivery, and basically not do much but swim and relax, this is the place. The house is an adorable mid-century gem with cute furnishings and a large, completely enclosed private lot. We especially appreciated that it is pet friendly. Our dogs could hang out with us by the pool, or relax inside. The week we were there the daily temps topped 100 degrees, but the A/C kept us cool in between swims. The heated pool is large enough to do laps, if so inclined. The kitchen is well stocked with everything one would need for cooking. We really needed nothing (except maybe a few more days here). The property managers were easy to deal with, and we appreciated that Palm Springs is on top of safety regulations for this strange Covid world. We felt safe, and we loved our time here.

Fantastic experience - start to finish!

From initial booking to check out we could not have asked for more. The host was friendly and always available for any questions or requests. The house itself is beautiful and has all the amenities you could ask for. Also very clean which was impressive during covid times!
