About this property

Cassidy Homestead Guest Cabin

Welcome to this quaint rustic locally owned and operated cabin located in the small hamlet of southern Hall. The cabin sleeps 6 comfortably, and was built by homesteader Carl Cassidy in the early 80's. His skillful primitive aesthetic and use of recycled materials gives the cabin a feeling it was built in the 1880's. The cabin has recently been remodeled from basement to roof: new electrical, plumbing, flooring, kitchen, bathroom, and appliances. A spacious 280sqft covered porch was added onto the back of the cabin.

The Cabin sits on what remains of the original Cassidy homestead along with the main house and several outbuildings all constructed by Carl. Flint Creek, one of Montana's blue ribbon trout creeks, is located 50yrds from the property. Just across Hwy 1, is the township of Maxville. The charming turn-of-the-century town of Philipsburg is a short 11min drive. Discovery Ski Area and Georgetown Lake is just 35min away.

The cabin has two stories; main living down and one large single bedroom and bath up. The main living area is open concept consisting of a living room (with a double bed futon couch), stone fireplace (firewood included), dining area, Smart TV, WiFi, and a fully functional kitchen.

The kitchen is well stocked with an assembly of cooking needs including a microwave and coffee maker. The back door leads out to the new covered porch that overlooks the homesteads old apple orchard. You will find a new gas barbecue, a large picnic table perfect for family gatherings, and a couple of Adirondack chairs for relaxing and taking in the scenery of the property and the surrounding mountains. A rock built fire pit sits out front of the cabin for those nightly gatherings of roasting marshmallows and making s’mores.

Upstairs is a large single bedroom with twin bunks, a double bed, and completely remodeled bathroom with tiled shower. A private balcony is accessible off the bedroom. If there's a need for another guest past 6, a sleeping cot is available at an additional $25 a night.

The cabin has its own private drive and is surrounded by a new gated post and pole fence. The area is perfect to let your dog out for a quick break if you decide to bring them along ;) The property is dog friendly and a small fee of $25 per dog is required if you decide to bring your four legged friend(s). Payment is due upon arrival: cash or check.

Guest access:

Guess have access to the whole cabin and the outdoor space within the post and pole fencing surrounding the cabin.

Charming, Cozy Cabin
A charming, cozy cabin nestled near the base of the mountains! If the Northern Lights are dancing, you will see them here- far away from any light pollution. Situated near several hiking trails and fishing streams, this cottage is perfect for a weekend getaway! I would recommend this property!

Perfect Log Cabin
Bob's cabin is a treasure, the kind of place you want to keep a secret! It is very clean, cozy, huge fireplace, beautiful setting and uniquely appointed. He has the cabin well set up for cooking at home, plenty of pantry room for guest supplies. The bedroom closets are empty (not cluttered with miscellaneous things) with ample shelving and hanging space for guest. We found good snowshoeing across the highway. Philipsburg is only 10 miles away while Discovery Ski Area or Georgetown Lake are a bit farther but easily driveable.

SERENITY
My wife and I spent another relaxing evening here. No distractions and just a wonderful place to get away for an evening. Bob has done such a great job restoring this homestead cabin. Great communication before and after our stay. Unfortunate that it can only receive a 5-star rating. I would give it a 10!!!

We enjoyed our stay
I think the word rustic fits this cabin well. It is homey, comfortable and just the basics. If you are a bells and whistles kind of person, this might not be for you. However, if you live simply and enjoy cozy and warm, this is for you. There is one bathroom which is upstairs (steep stairs). The Mrs. Meyers products were a nice touch. Thank you so much!

Perfect Base Camp for Family
This cabin was the perfect spot for our country-loving family. Clean, cozy, and quaint. One hour easy commute to Missoula to set up our college freshman. Bob is an excellent, responsive host and even went to turn the lights on for us after a later-than-anticipated arrival. Beautifully renovated property with all the essentials. Hiking across the creek was gorgeous and rugged. We especially loved the outdoor areas on the property. Thanks again; we definitely recommend this property for anyone wishing to explore the area!

The wife and I found this to be a wonderful location and property to base some of our day hikes out from! The cabin is such a unique and very well restored property that we will definitely be coming back in the near future! Our dogs found the cabin quite comfortable as well! I would totally recommend this place to anyone for a quite getaway in the heart of paradise.

Cabin life
Enjoyed the location with deer all around and Flint Creek steps away. It is a remodeled cabin with its own eccentricities and quirks. We had everything we needed to cook in the kitchen, the fireplace was wonderful for a cozy atmosphere and warmth. Expect steep stairs to the upstairs where the bathroom is, not a problem for us but could be for some.

Freezing cabin, bring your own fuel, exorbitant fees
This was probably the worst experience I have had with a vacation rental. The cabin was freezing cold, space heaters completely inadequate, windows single pane, and the fireplace voracious with wood, which the owner was happy to sell to you at extra charge. Basic heat should not be extra, nor the guest's responsibility. The property listing needs a heat disclaimer. We had to go far out of our way and buy a half cord of firewood for our month-long stay, or burn the host's wood for a total of about $350 add to your bill. This is unacceptable! To add insult to injury, the host racked up absurd cleaning and damage charges and upped his damage estimates when we requested a refund for wood! The shower leaks, handmade bed uneven and uncomfortable. No washer or drier, no broom that we saw, but we cleaned up and left the place in reasonable shape and still charged. This property is being used as a cash machine. Beware!
