The Cottage at DuPont. Privacy and Space in a Park-like Setting.

A great way to "get away from it all" in Charleston. Enjoy this spacious 1064 square foot cottage located in a beautifully landscaped private garden setting.

Beautifully furnished, always spotlessly clean with a well-furnished full kitchen...and totally away from the crowds. The cottage is a free-standing self-contained private accommodation in a beautiful garden setting with off street parking.

Only four miles from the Historic District the Cottage is close to Middleton and Magnolia Gardens, Drayton Hall, Charles Towne Landing, McLeod Plantation, the Intracoastal Waterway and 20 minutes from Folly Beach. The ten mile long West Ashley Greenway is just two blocks away. It's great for walking and biking. Our own private garden with koi pond and waterfall is also a nice place to unwind.

Getting out of the downtown crowd allows our guests to relax and enjoy a 1064 square foot cottage with TWO Queen size beds in ONE 25' X 12' bedroom and a large living area. The property has an awesome kitchen with marble countertops and a large living area where guests can share a meal and some quality time together.

If you want to go downtown it's five minutes away. If you want to walk the gardens, ride or walk the greenway or just stare out across a gorgeous Intracoastal waterway view you can do that right here in West Ashley on your own schedule. All of these options are between 2 and 15 minutes away. Many restaurants in the area deliver independently or participate with GrubHub and UberEats.

The Cottage is located in the DuPont section of West Ashley on Wappoo Road between the West Ashley Greenway and the Stono River Overlook ICW at the Edgewater Park Bridge. The building faces a private garden behind a privacy gate and is completely separate from the owners' home which is also on the property. We are located two miles from the Avondale entertainment district and four miles to downtown Charleston and the Medical District.

We enjoy interacting with guests, but we also believe in giving people their space. All arrangements can be made online and contact-free. We are generally available during the day between 8AM and 7PM and we are happy to assist you with local information or any special needs. The Cottage at DuPont is a fully licensed short term rental accommodation in the City of Charleston. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT ALLOW PETS, CHILDREN, SMOKING OR EVENTS OF ANY KIND.

Lovely Retreat

What a lovely, secluded cottage that offers both privacy and relaxation. The garden and Koi pond were a welcome oasis after a day of touring in Charleston. The owners were readily available throughout our stay and were both welcoming and accommodating. An Amazing Stay!

It was such a joy to stay here - The hosts are wonderful and very inviting, full of great conversation, and you can tell they really care about community and connecting with others. The space itself is gorgeous, both inside and out. It was very clean, the pond of koi and the turtle are a beautiful way to relax without going anywhere. It's a great location - quiet, yet not far from shops and things to do. We lived the ability to walk right over to the greenway for a nice run, and still be able to hop in the car for a quick 10min into the downtown area. We will absolutely be back to stay in the future - one of the best experiences we've had so far!Thanks Charlie!

If you’re planning a stay in the Charleston area, we highly recommend staying here! It’s 15 minutes from the airport and only a 20-30 minute drive from some of the must-see locations, such as the aquarium, famous plantations, Fort Sumter Visitor Center and close to grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Our hosts were cordial and welcoming, and the home was in pristine condition. Charleston is a lovely city with so much history. Make sure you take one of the horse-drawn carriage tours!

First time visitors to Charleston

My husband and I loved this place! It was perfect for the 2 of us. We stayed here for a wedding that we were attending and it was a convenient location. The neighborhood was quaint. Charlie was a great host who was happy to have us hang out with him by the pond to chat. The unit was above the garage and was very clean. Charlie thought of everything as it was well equipped with pump soap in the bathrooms, plenty of fresh towels, laundry detergent, etc. We would definitely come back to this place. We've never been to Charleston and I was worried if the place would be as good as the pictures and it actually exceeded our expectations!! My husband and I said multiple times that we lucked out on this find!

Wonderful oasis in West Ashley

I loved the apartment and the gorgeous park like setting. Place is close to downtown Charleston and the West Ashley greenway. Charlie and Rob were great to communicate with and the check in process was a breeze. Would definitely stay here again when I’m CHS!!

“slice of heaven”

The hosts and the property are truly one-of-a-kind! We instantly felt welcomed. Our hosts were warm, attentive, & familiar. The property was truly an oasis and well-loved. Just being in the garden felt resort-like. The carriage house apartment was efficient and well-appointed. Very cute place!

Owners did a great job curating the plants and decor for this peaceful little hideaway. The Koi pond is so relaxing. Very clean. Larger appliances are all up to date and modern. All streaming services were available. We had a great stay.

Pictures will never do any place justice. This place is diamond in a gem mine. If you love wine, peace and quiet, easy accesss to everything, and if you so decide some other people to share wine as you sit under a beautifully lit naturescape, this is your place. The grounds of this property are almost bucolic in nature. We enjoyed relaxing outside by the pond after a day of touring in nearby Charleston. The host provided us with numerous suggestions on local sites and restaurants which we found very helpful. The unit is clean, beds are comfortable (a must), and the kitchen well equipped with up to date appliances. We would highly recommend this property and would absolutely consider staying here again.

Charlie Smith and Rob Suli re-envisioned, redesigned and rebuilt both the main house on the property as well as what became the Cottage at DuPont from 2016-2019. Charlie is a City Planner by education and independent Real Estate professional by trade. Rob is a retired VA Benefits specialist.

Why they chose this property

Charleston's West Ashley area was actually the birthplace of the both the City of Charleston and the State of South Carolina. The DuPont community of West Ashley was one of the earliest populated areas on the West side of the Ashley River directly across from downtown.

The 10 mile long West Ashley Greenway was once the right of way for the Charleston and Savannah Railroad chartered in 1854. The Cottage is located one block south of the Greenway along what was once the southern end of the Kings Highway.

Downtown is just across the river, but if you want to visit Magnolia or Middleton Gardens, walk the greenway or just stare out across a gorgeous Intracoastal waterway view you can do that right here in West Ashley on your own schedule. All of these options are between 2 and 15 minutes away. Folly Beach is about 20 minutes away.

What makes this property unique

The Cottage at DuPont is the perfect place for a private Charleston get away, whether for a few nights or a few months. The owners always enjoy conversation with guests, but they also respect guest privacy.

Our guests can relax and enjoy a 1064 square foot home that sleeps four people with plenty of living area. The property has an awesome kitchen and living area where friends can share a meal and some quality time together. There's also a drop-leaf table and wi-fi if you need to get some work done while you're here.

Sitting by the pond in the morning with a cup of coffee or enjoying a glass of wine there in the afternoon is a great way to relax. If you're lucky, our very shy red-eared slider, Hoity Toity, may grace you with her presence. If Rob and I are in the garden come join us.
