About this property

Idyllic cottage on Bois Blanc Island's Snow Beach

Spend an idyllic week – or more – at this lovely cottage on coveted Snow Beach. The cottage is nestled in the forest, but walk out the door and you are on the path to paradise. Enjoy your morning coffee in the Adirondack chairs watching the spectacular sunrises, or sip your coffee while strolling the beach listening for the haunted cry of the loon and seeing what the waves brought in overnight. Days spent at the beach can be anything you choose but it will be an experience like no other. Whether you choose to float peacefully or play vigorously in the clear Lake Huron water, or relax in a lounge chair and watch the freighters pass, Snow Beach will delight and restore you. The island boasts numerous hiking trails to explore; several historic sites; a six-mile bike ride or drive will take you to the north shore where Mackinac island and the Mackinac bridge can be viewed, along with a pebbly beach where beach glass has been known to be found. There are three inland lakes for fishing - Lake Mary has a beautiful dock with benches so non-fishermen can be included in the fun.

Evenings at Snow Beach are magical: watch the deer strolling the beach at dusk; after dinner build a campfire and marvel at the night sky; or fall asleep to the soothing call of Poe Reef Light, which can be seen from the cottage.

The airy cottage is decorated in a pastel nautical theme with a well-appointed kitchen and bathroom with a stand-up shower. There is a collection of books on the Great Lakes and Bois Blanc Island history, and several games and puzzles are available for your enjoyment. There is also a TV with DVD player and a limited collection of movies. No Wi-Fi at the cottage but the the general store, Island Diner is under new ownership and may offer.

Truly PARADISE
I have traveled all over the world and nowhere rivals the viewnfeom The Cottage at Snow Beach. It is truly spectacular. To have front door access to your own private beach in a cove of only a few other houses on a.rural island is magical. The water changes every day. The colors are glorious. And the cottage is retro perfection. Just what we were looking for to take our 8 year old to experience the beach without sharks! And i loved that the beach had pine trees instead of palm. Perfect combo of beach and mountain feel. Quiet. Calm. Nature. And awesome island natives. Everyone was so helpful from cottage manager to the owners to the tavern employees. I accidentally left my engagement ring behind (can YOU imagine?!?!?) They made sure my ring was on the next ferry! We had breakfast in Cheboygan while we waited to retrieve it. So grateful for how the owners went above and beyond to drop off my ring with the ferry owner for safe travel. I read 3 books with my feet in the water. While our 8 year old frolicked in the very shallow water swimming and floating. We flew a kite and relived all the best vacation memories of our youth. Oh...and I cannot forget the dancing monarchs in the dune right in front of the Adirondack chairs. From.caterpillar to chrisyalis to butterfly....you can see all the stages in their glory. We already booked again for next year! So I guess you could say we are in love with.this cottage and this island.

Beautiful Snow Beach
The location is simply amazing. My wife & I stayed for a week with our two golden retrievers. The vast majority of our time was spent on the beach. I couldn't get over how clean & clear the water was and the color - if I didn't know better I would have thought we were in the Caribbean! There are some rocks on the beach but only a step or two and then you're back on the amazing white sand beach. The house is rustic but the bed is very comfy, the kitchen has pretty much everything you could need and there is a TV and a nice collection of DVD's & games for your evening entertainment. I also need to mention that the owners and property managers were very responsive and helpful. They provided some great tips such as book your ferry ride early. The ferry does leave right on time and if you're not there you will have to wait and see if there is room on the next trip. We loved our stay and look forward to coming back in the future.

Best Location Ever
We had an amazing time in the cottage. There are a few minor critiques (light out in frig, not all of the outlets work, knob off light switch). The cottage could use some updating but nothing detracts from the VIEW! If you are looking for luxury, this is not your cottage. HOWEVER, if you want to unplug, relax and reconnect this is the place. I would return to the cottage in a heartbeat. The location can not be beat. The island is rustic and an explorers dream. My kids loved playing in the crystal clear lake. The host answered all questions quickly. We all hope to make a return to Snow Beach soon.

Relaxing and peaceful
My husband and I arrived on the island with not much preconceived notions. The house sits smack on the beach perfect for leaving our kayaks on the shore for daily ventures. Lake Huron is on the cold side but the water is so clear I couldn’t resist a daily swim. The best part is the sound of the lake waves lulling you to sleep. The host and the property manager were easy to contact and did everything possible to make sure we had a pleasant stay.

Perfect beach setting!!
The beach and area, in and around the cottage, is just about the most perfect lake stay I’ve experienced with my family! The sand is soft, the area all natural with milk weed and butterflies and the water is spectacular. AMAZNG sunrises and sunsets, with stargazing late at night!! Warm water in the afternoons, which makes it easy to tour some of the island sites during the morning hours! Easy ferry ride to and from Cheboygan! A local Cheboygan fishing charter picked us up right at the BBI dock. Peaceful area, nice neighbors and residents! Thank you so much for sharing your slice of paradise with others!! It’s one of the best and most relaxing trips our busy family has had in many years!! Your island is pure joy!!!

We were so busy enjoying the outdoors that we enjoyed the beach so much.
We really enjoyed our stay and met so many people that lived on the island. The ferry ride was great coming and going. We ate outside on the picnic bench for every meal and enjoyed the view. The picnic table does need new wood. We will come back next year for more exploring.

Ferry service
We were unable to make it to our cottage due to the Ferry service , who I will not name because we gave them a negative comment on their Facebook page and their Trolls started sending us hateful messages. Our vacation was ruined after almost a year of planning and 9 plus hours of driving. This is in no way a reflection on the property owners, they were very understanding and sympathetic and refunded our money. We are very heartbroken and hope this doesn’t happen to some other family.

Relaxing and beautiful setting
The location is perfect, with a sandy beach and lots of trees for privacy. The cottage has everything needed. Would recommend bringing water shoes for kids, there are lots of rocks for the first few feet in the water, then you are on a sand bar and it's perfect for swimming and lounging. We went kayaking, hiking, and checked out the rest of the island. Make sure you follow Bible Road up to the beach, it is an amazing view! We'll be back!

Visiting Snow Beach
The owners were kind & patient in handling the contract after I confirmed my reservation through VRBO. We were excited to visit snow beach, as that’s where I played as a child on BBI. We had myself, 2 teens, 1 tween & our dog. We had to arrive a day late due to a medical emergency so Kathy left the cabin ready for us upon arrival. Everything listed was there & available; kitchen appliances, beach chairs, bed linens, towels, dish soap, paper products, etc. I wish I’d packed more than 1 beach towel per person because we spent hours on the water everyday. There was a laundry line though, and our towels were mostly dry by the next day (except the night it rained & I forgot to get them 😂). The yard was comfortable & there was a hammock for our use. The monarchs were in full season & created a magical atmosphere. My daughter saved a few chrysalises that had been knocked to the ground. We wore water shoes when we swam b/c the first few steps into the lake we’re rocky, but the beach & lake beyond that were soft sand. My iuds could enjoy themselves out a good distance & still touch, and loved that it wasn’t mushy or seaweedy like inland lakes. Island info, street address, important contact #’s, maps, & historical stories were available in the cottage. The beds were comfy & fans were provided for warm nights. We could not have asked for a better location to stay. Life truly is Better at the Cottage at Snow Beach!

Lemonade out of lemons
As we were preparing to leave for Cheboygan to catch the car ferry, we received a call from Kim, saying "Don't leave! The ferry isn't running." We were so thankful that we didn't find out at 3:00 in the afternoon, with the family, dog and a car full of groceries that we couldn't get to the island! Thank you, Kim, for your guidance and prompt refund when the ferry couldn't be quickly repaired. We hope to come another time, as we've visited Bois Blanc Island before and loved it.

Beautiful, quiet escape
Location, location. Beautiful snow beach, sandy on an island full of rocky beaches, this place has location nailed. Sunrises, swimming (we went! It was pretty cold, but we got in!), and just a relaxing place to chill. A bit dated, small, but well setup, and a bit rustic (it was cold the nights we were there, so we had to fire up the wood stove, but they did provide firewood). Do understand what you’re getting into with the whole island thing. Ferry is expensive, there is almost nothing in terms of services on the island, and you will want a truck, SUV, or at least some ground clearance and 4wd for anything but the main road! (Good news though, this place is right on the main road if you don’t have that). Property manager was amazing. Great island info/resource with all of the tips and tricks. We had a great, relaxing, early fall stay.

Great Location! Relax in Solitude.
Beautiful beach location on the east end of BBI. Property on which the cottage sits is large enough to give you a feeling of isolation. If you are looking to chill on the beach, and are willing to transport your own supplies, this is a great choice

Always Wonderful
This was my second trip to the cottage on Snow Beach, and once again I did not want to leave at the end of my week. The cottage is very comfortable, and the beach is very relaxing. I especially enjoyed having evening campfires on the beach. I can't wait for the next time I cad go the Bois Blanc Island, and when I do I will book this cottage again!

Amazing beach and great family vacation
I highly recommend this cottage and island. Cottage was perfect... sand and amazing beach right out the door. Kids had a great time digging, swimming and doing bond fires on the beach. Badminton and hammock was set up, which the kids loved. Cottage was perfect for family. Came with many more supplies than we expected. Wife was concerned it would be more “rustic” than she wanted but it was perfect for her. The island was great. Two fishing docks where kids caught lots of fish. Used a small Jon boat on twin lakes and caught lots of pike and one 19 inch walleye. Recommend brining kayaks...we had lot of fun with ours kayaking around bay and kayaking to snake island to explore. Cottage manager was very nice... met us upon arrival to show us around and make sure we had all the info about the island and cottage. Part of the island lost power for two hours and she called us right away with estimated time of fixing. Very comforting. Overall I highly recommend the cottage and island.

THE ULTIMATE GETAWAY!
I took my family of 5 to Snow Beach and we are forever changed. This place is awesome! You basically have an island to yourself. There were some people in town. Everyone is friendly. We liked the island so much that we made an offer on a house a few miles away. This place is a well kept secret of nature's beauty. The owners and manager are very accommodating. The cottage is stocked with every pot/pan/glass/chair/towel/dvd/book/game that you could think of. Thank you so much!!!!

Isolation Island
Bois Blanc Island is unique and the beach of the Lake Huron is the most beautiful of all the Lakes, the view from the cottage is gorgeous and the beach is serene and extremely private. The house, however, is very dated, the only heat consists of a wood burner stove (which my husband loved) and the back door lock is very tricky (we did not figure out until the morning we left) and assuming that the one island store and bar was open was detrimental to our stay, (we planned on eating out a few times) which ultimately forced us to leave a day earlier than planned. We also had no idea that the trash would be our responsibility and if we did not take it, we would have to pay Kathy to take it away for us, so remember this when you leave. Kathy was a nice manager, she offered to take it for us at no cost (bc we had no cash) but remember before going that this island is a 40-minute ferry ride that has a fee and only comes and goes at certain times of the day, there are no stores on the island like in the description, the cottage needs a lot of updating (ceiling tiles were stained and sinking, there are no blinds on windows, there are no outside lights that work) and one very important thing to remember as well-USE BUG SPRAY! We left with 12 black fly bites that lasted for 12 days after & left us with scarring. They are terrible there. Overall, the cottage is a cute place to visit for a few days or to visit because of the amazing water/privacy/quiet, as long as you do not mind the biting flies, the outdated cottage and no store/wifi/restaurant. I, however, would not stay again.

Sweet Beach Retreat
My family of 4 (plus our dog) recently stayed at the cottage on Snow Beach. It was the perfect size for us and very clean with well stocked kitchen items for cooking. The cottage is located right in a small bay on Lake Huron with a few cottages to each side. The neighbors we talked to were all very friendly. The water is beautiful and shallow and easy to swim especially for small children. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this cottage if you don't mind the ferry ride and packing a weeks worth of groceries. There isn't a grocery store on the island (only a tiny general store) so we came well prepared. We didn't venture out too much - we just hung out and enjoyed the sun and water everyday except for a drive to the north side of the island and a couple of fishing trips to Mary Lake. We highly recommend this vacation rental!

Wonderful stay, hopefully I can visit again next year
I must say, I was very pleased with the cottage, my interactions with Joanie, the property owner, and Kathy the property manager. The location is beautiful and peaceful. It was very quiet and relaxing. In fact, I haven’t slept that well in years. The cottage was very nice, and comfortable, and the view of Snow Beach and Lake Huron is wonderful. I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere on the island, and the locals I interacted with were very friendly. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate, as we had a lot of rain, so I did not get to explore as much as I wanted to, however that gives me another reason to come back! Thank you Joanie, Kathy, and Vrbo.

This cottage + BBI = One of our BEST EVER vacations!
We took our 3 young children to this Snow Beach cottage and had one of our best family vacations ever. The cottage is super-clean and well stocked. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are all open to one another, so we were always all together enjoying family time. The windows and French doors make it feel like the outside is coming right in. So light and airy. The master bedroom is just the right size and has a very comfortable bed. And our kids enjoyed the 2 sets of bunks in the second bedroom as much as anything on the trip. The beach is right there in your front yard, and it is an amazing beach. Soft, soft, white sand. Shallow and crystal clear water. The little bay is the perfect walk. There are only a half dozen or so cottages on this beach, and everyone we met was very friendly, but you certainly have lot of privacy. Bois Blanc Island itself was a surprise! What a wonderful place. We anticipated having nothing to do, and were quite pleased to do just that. But the island has much more going on that we expected! The people on BBI are just so dear and friendly, we ended up participating in a lot. We fished on Lake Mary and Thompson Lake (inland lakes), played on the school's playground, went to Fun Night at the Coast Guard Chapel, Story and Craft Time at the library/museum, movie night at the Fire Hall, and spent our wedding anniversary square dancing! We planned to keep to ourselves all week, but really had a terrific time with the Islanders and a few other vacationers. Bois Blanc is the epitome of natural beauty. Pine and hardwood forests abound. The views of Lake Huron, the Lower Peninsula, the Upper Peninsula, Mackinac Island, and the Bridge are breathtaking. The cottage is located on the southeast end of the island; we drove out to the west end and to 2 different locations on the north side and were rewarded by the views and natural beauty. As for dining out, we went to Barb's Boblo Tavern twice, for burgers and Taco Tuesday. And the jukebox! And we went to Hawk's Landing for pizza one night and breakfast before we boarded the ferry. Both establishments offer as much in friendly visiting as they do in good food. Our goal for this vacation was to truly connect with each other, spending really great time together. The Snow Beach cottage and Bois Blanc gave us that in a way we never expected. What a special week in our busy life. We will ABSOLUTELY return.
