Dream vacation

Our family met for a week-long vacation. Everyone was delighted with the accommodations. The property is clean and the three kitchens are well set up. The pool house is exceptional with a pool, jacuzzi, sauna and outdoor shower. There are many comfortable places to gather and relax. Add to that the amazing hiking trails in Joshua Tree and your vacation is complete. The desert was so beautiful day and night and the weather was perfect. We all really loved being at Wonder Ranch and hope to return next year.

Perfect Oasis

This place was absolutely amazing! It has everything you could possibly need during a remote getaway. We were looking for a place that would accommodate 10 of us as we were looking to do a small wedding. This was perfect! Brian was super responsive during our stay, overall a perfect host. We also have a toddler who makes it hard to travel overnight places. There was a closet with toys, books, etc which was a wonderful distraction for our 16 months old. She loved it!

Amazing property

A few friends and I headed to the desert to celebrate a birthday. the property was perfect for it with several private spaces for people to retreat to decompress. the pool and pool house were a highlight for my group and we spent most of our time there but there were plenty of other activities and games around as well. We were lucky enough to be there for the perfect view of a rare comet. Brian was a great host and gave clear instructions and detail about all aspects of the property. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you again!

Amazing find!

It’s not often you stumble upon a property like this! We booked this place for a friend’s trip with 11 guests. It was quite hot when we visited, so the pool was fantastic! Would definitely stay here again!

Fantastic and Beautiful Desert Getaway

We had a fantastic weekend away at the property, which was perfect for our group of couples and friends. Brian was very attentive and flexible to our needs, and logistics couldn't have been easier. The desert sunsets were stunning and made a picture perfect backdrop for a surprise wedding proposal. Thanks again!

Bachelorette Getaway

We had so much fun hanging out together at the pool and living spaces. The beds were big and comfortable and the kitchen and bathrooms had everything we needed. The property is huge and quiet. The drive to the National Park and stores/restaurants was super easy as well.

Joshua Tree Thanksgiving Getaway

The property was perfect for our group of 8 adults. Everything was well maintained and the pool, sauna and outdoor shower was enjoyed by all. At night we enjoyed sitting around the campfire. Recommend hiking in Joshua Tree and a night at Kitchen in the Desert!

Good property for 4 couples

Having the 4 bedrooms divided between 3 buildings was good because it gave a mixture of communal spaces and private spaces. Nighttime stargazing was amazing with all the lights turned off, and the pool was a nice respite from the blazing heat during the day. A couple of touches I really appreciated were a good supply of spices in the kitchens and plenty of pool towels. The main negative was frequent drops in water pressure (slow to a trickle). The host was very responsive but ultimately I came to realize that the intermittent water problems were just part of the reality of a desert property reliant on well water. Annoying, but not necessarily a deal-breaker. Note that the pool house consists of an indoor half-bath and an outdoor shower. Based on my reading of the property listing, I was expecting an indoor bath (not half-bath) plus an outdoor shower. The property served us well as a home base near Joshua Tree National Park and a place to celebrate a birthday with friends. I would consider staying again.

Birthday under the stars

I invited four couples to enjoy two nights under the stars to celebrate my birthday. Our friend who is a chef prepared us spectacular meals and we ate together in the main dining room. In the evenings we sat around the large fire pit gazing at the carpet of stars drifting overhead. Every one, including our friends who only do high end accommodations, found the setting absolutely stunning. Brian is a fantastic host - quick to reply to any request and alway eager to help. We’ll be back!

Peaceful and quiet oasis!

We loved staying at this property. It felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, away from it all. We didn't see or hear one neighbor while we were out there. Suffice to say, we appreciated the peace and quiet. There are three separate structures so it felt like we had a little a compound. Two bedrooms/ two bathrooms in the main house (with a pull out sofa), 1 bed/bath in the cottage (which is like a little studio), and 1 murphy bed/bath/outdoor shower in the pool house (and a pull-out sofa I think? We didn't check). We mainly hung out in the pool house and did all our cooking there and retreated at night to our own separate spaces. The solar-heated pool was large and relaxing, but really only got warm in the midday. Property is 11 min. from Joshua Tree's Northern entrance which made a day trip super convenient. There's a cabinet with boardgames that we discovered too late into our trip, or else we would have enjoyed. Would definitely stay again!

Most magical getaway in Wonder Valley

We booked Wonder Valley Ranch to celebrate my husband and his best friend's 40th birthday. The Ranch was exceptional and the perfect place for our group of friends to commune for the weekend. The property is spacious and every detail of the space was beautifully curated, from the organized kitchens down to a hand painted guide book in the Main House, that was an impressive, thoughtful and awe inspiring. Each Kitchen in the 3 dwellings were stocked with everything we needed to feel comfortable and at home. Each guest commented on the comfort of the beds. Check-In and Check- out was Easy! We enjoyed the sauna and the pool for cold plunges since it is still winter. We played horse shoes, bocce ball while watching the Sunset and both the main house and the Pool house were a fun place to gather and play cards with our friends. Sunsets were stunning and the star gazing at night was unbelievable! It was such a memorable weekend that we all absolutely loved and can't wait to come back!

GEM!

I was a bit skeptical about spending my vacation in the open desert for a week with my family. But let me tell you! This property and surrounding areas with the National Park were beyond my expectations. This property has everything you need and more! Spent most the time by the firepit at night and the hottub. The sauna was a major plus and set up perfect for any group or family!

Wonderful at Wonder Valley Ranch

Our group of 10 family members ages 7 to 60 rendezvoused in the desert for a thanksgiving weekend reunion at Wonder Valley Ranch didn’t disappoint! Not sure if we could have scripted a better environment to celebrate the weekend. The spacious compound along a quiet dirt road outside of 29 palms had plenty of spaces to be together as a group and to quietly recharge when needed. The main house became our gathering hub with a great kitchen well stocked to prep meals for our big group, and ample space to hang out and all gather around a table for a meal or games. The pool house, sauna and pool for cold plunges, was perfect for after hike relaxing and evening movie watching . Bonfire, stars, and cozy cabin rounded out the goodness. The spaces were all nicely appointed, and more spacious than the photos showed. WiFi was a bit spotty, but not an issue for us.

Wonder Valley Ranch - Wonderful Property

This property was exceptional. I have high expectations and this property met or beat them. Three wonderfully appointed and designed houses. Plenty of space in each and lots of outdoor space between them. You couldn't ask for better appointed kitchens with plenty of utensils, pots and pans but also lots of herbs and spices, nice coffee etc. Additionally, the bathrooms were all beautifully clean and spacious with nice amenities. We loved the pool too although it was a little cold despite being solar heated. What was especially great with the design of the pool house and the terrace was the big overhang which kept the property cool all day despite soaring temperatures outside. Wonder Valley Ranch is in a quiet spot not too far from the entrance to Joshua Tree and all the best known areas of the park. We wound not hesitate to return again and again.

Great for families

We planned a trip to Joshua Tree and liked the proximity of this property to the park. It is very private and the layout works well for multiple families. Our kids loved playing bocce ball and roasting marshmallows at night. We cooked almost every night and the kitchens are well stocked (even with spices). Communication with Brian was great. One thing to note is that the pool is heated by solar panels and can take awhile to get warm, if it all, depending on the weather and air temperature.

Great compound for getting away with a group

Clean, well-appointed, stylish property with multiple small houses, very comfortable for a group stay or (like us) for a family of adults who enjoyed having a little more space! Close enough to a small town of shops and restaurants, and the park entrance, but feels like you are in the middle of nowhere -- very quiet. NOTE: cell signal can be spotty, so download directions before you arrive. Wifi was good until the wind kicked up. Pool would have been amazing but early March was still too cold. Sauna was delightful, fire pit and games were great. Beds were super comfy, good water temp and shower pressure, many places to gather, lounge, eat, etc. Bring socks and/or flip flops -- you don't want to walk barefoot in the desert.

Serene Desert Oasis

Conclusion: Wonder Valley Ranch is an absolute jewel. The attention to detail and standard of excellence turns a weekend stay into a home away from home. The location and layout provides maximum relaxation, yet the homes are fully stocked for whatever type of weekend you plan to have. This stay was to celebrate a surprise engagement in Joshua Tree! Located only slightly off the beaten path, Wonder Valley Ranch provides the getaway desert experience one can expect, yet only a short drive to JT/stores/gas. It is the perfect hybrid of privacy and accessibility. Due to its location, one can see the sunrise, sunset, and starry night sky within 15 steps of the front door. Brian was very responsive and communicative, he helped two of my group check in and set things up while I was proposing to my (now) fiancé. Instructions, property information, and recommendations were clear and helpful. The houses are immaculately clean, beautifully styled, and fully prepared/stocked for guests. Highly recommend. Brian, thanks for helping making this special weekend perfect for us.

We gathered as a family over Thanksgiving to enjoy Joshua tree national Park and a relaxed visit. This wonder valley property was perfect for Enjoying the park with great access to JTNP and 29 palms/Joshua tree. The setting was incredible with everything we needed including a fantastic bocce court and gorgeous full moon and stars. The compound was well stocked and just a beautiful and restful setting inside and out. Plenty of privacy and community space for our group. About the host

Hosted by Brian Zuckerman

Host profile image
My family had been living in Los Angeles with a 2nd home in Joshua Tree, specifically this property... The Wonder Valley Ranch.

Covid arrived and we decamped to Wonder Valley. We've always loved visiting... but had never lived full time in the open desert. It was a revelation... each day brought magic... sunrises and sunsets that could not be ignored, desert wildlife and colors that are just not seen in other places. The solitude and space to live and breath was the impetus for us to move to the area full time.

My business is real estate and I fell in love with the rural properties and the joy that these properties would bring to so many people. So, I did a pivot and moved from working with investors buying multi-family buildings to those who were interested in rural properties as either 2nd homes or investments... usually both. And I've not regretted my decision for one moment.

We live in Joshua Tree... a short drive from the Wonder Valley Ranch.

Why they chose this property

It's magical. Really... there's some kind of special energy that flows through this property. The organization of the buildings allows for both gathering together and privacy. The pool, the landscaping, the 360 views and the silence that has it's own sound... this remains one of my favorite properties I've spent time at...

What makes this property unique

Privacy, solitude, a thoughtful organization of space, buildings and landscaping allow for a magical experience.
