We booked this cute cottage because it is 2 doors away from our daughter's home. Though we usually stay with her, it was not convenient this particular weekend. We loved having our "own" place to retreat to (within walking distance) at the end of the day. Hostess LuAnn was most accommodating and really easy to work with!
A sweet spot nestled in a charming neighborhood! Walking distance to a wonderful park and a boulevard lined with shops and restaurants. Host is friendly and easy to communicate with-I enjoyed my stay and will book it again!
Parking very difficult, as you have to back into traffic which is difficult to see. The bedroom is okay, but the kitchen area leaves much to be desired. We were not able to get hot water in the kitchen, plus it takes four to five minutes of running water to get hot water to the bathroom. There was no blanket for the bed, and the weather was cold for Florida.
Overall the weekend stay was nice. It was a guest house in the backyard next to the pool. Everything was nice. It had a full size bed with a small table, kitchen area, with a bathroom, and shower. All you would need for a quick getaway.
The only reason I am giving this 4 stars is due to the grass was very high and not very easy path to walk through when we came in at night. It was also hard to see since we had to go through the backyard gate to get to the property listing. The property manager was very nice with communication and accommodating if we needed anything. Overall it was nice and would recommend to others looking room for that small cute cottage type feel.
This home is walking distance from some amazing shops! I recommend walking to love bagel and deli! The guest house had a private entrance and an amazing pool, there was a little kitchen area equipped with a fridge, microwave, . The location was perfect
My 21 yr old daughter absolutely loved this guest house and so did I. The bed was so comfortable my daughter wanted me to ask them to let us buy it…lol. We were there during and after tropical storm Debby and even though everything was drenched and tossed it was a beautiful yard. The walk to the cottage was a little hard for my daughter but that was on me. She loves it so much though that the hard walk was okay with her. It is not a hard walk for able bodied people but walking for her is risky at best. Also, they had a cute little bouquet on the table from their beautiful yard. We would definitely stay there again!
My husband and I had a truly relaxing stay at this cute little cottage/pool house. Perfect for relaxing and what a great neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay ,we found our host and hostess to be very welcoming and accommodating
Perfect for one or two people in lovely neighborhood. The guesthouse was immaculate and had everything I needed for a weekend. Host was great and responsive- provided all the info needed right away with no surprises. Great experience 😃
Perfect spot, just as pictured . Pool/outdoor area very inviting, along with pretty summer flowers ! In town visiting family. Hosts were friendly and accommodating ! Will definitely stay here again when in town . Easy parking, easy check in and out . Also very peaceful and quiet neighborhood .

Recommendations
This should noy be take as criticism but more recommendations. The owner should have a bit more critical eyes to the cleanliness of the rental. At night there should be more lighting especially with a non gated pool. The lawn needed to be mowed and the walking path was unstable, not well lit and quite frankly dangerous. The bathroom was NOT cleaned and although it was blended on a new cleaning service as the owner you should have checked prior to us arriving.
This was the cutest little cottage! It was stocked with the necessities. The bed was nice and comfy. The check-in and check out process were incredibly easy. We forgot our watches and didn't realize it until we were halfway home. Contacted the host immediately, and she shipped out the watches the next day! We will definitely stay again when we go to Jacksonville.
The cottage was clean, well-equipped, cozy, private, everything as advertised. It is well-located for activities in the Avondale, Riverside, or Ortega neighborhoods of Jacksonville, within walking distance of shops and restaurants, within a 10-minute drive of the Cummer Museum, and close to downtown.
This cottage was perfect for our one night stay in the Avondale neighborhood of Jacksonville. It’s very close to the Cummer Museum, shopping and great restaurants. It was a breeze to get to the Performing Arts Center. We loved that our car was steps away from the cottage and that we didn’t have to wait for elevators or carry luggage down long halls and that parking was free. We also appreciate a 3:00 PM arrival time and 11:00 AM departure time. Many VRBO listings and hotels no longer subscribe to this standard. The cottage was clean and the bed was very comfortable. This is not a high end rental, and you are not paying a high end price. We would definitely stay again.
We stayed in this cute little room as a base to visit our nephew and niece-in-law and their new little house in Avondale! This property was perfect for our needs,
The cottage was clean, fresh and well appointed!
The bed was very comfortable and curtains provided good light blocking when needed! The location was entirely walkable to the area. Shops and restaurants were literally right up the street. It is as described, a renovated pool house behind the residence. We felt that while we were in the backyard we had all the privacy we needed Also would like to note the beautiful art on the walls signed by LuAnn-Thank you for that and the lovely painted map provided! LuAnn and Andy gave us great instructions and helpful hints. We would love to stay here again during visits to our family.
This is a great place to stay.
We had a business trip and glad to be away from traffic and motel life.
Very clean and comfortable cottage. Ideal for a couple in a quiet neighborhood.
We loved our stay! The guest house had nearly everything we needed. We somewhat missed having a stove as it did mean we had to eat out for every meal, but if you’re planning to be out and about the whole time or you don’t cook much, this place will be ideal. There is a toaster oven, so that helped. I would advise bringing a white noise machine as the plumbing woke us up several times with weird noises, haha! The hosts and the neighborhood on the whole were nice and quiet. It’s a lovely, clean and well-kept property (and is nicely decorated with the host’s beautiful art!) - we felt very safe. The hosts were also extremely responsive to any questions. The area is not overly central or easy to navigate if you’re trying to go pretty much anywhere beyond Avondale, BUT it’s a manageable 20-ish minute drive to other areas of the city, and there is plenty within a few minutes drive if you’re looking to mostly stay in. It’s truly a great set-up for a quiet, romantic stay. We found a few local arcade bars in the area that were so much fun; I can’t recommend those enough. Out of the whole week we stayed, there were only two issues: 1) the bathroom doesn’t afford any privacy at all as there is no exhaust fan and the rolling barn door doesn’t touch the floor or ceiling, and 2) the steep curb on their front drive is brutal. If you have a car that’s lowered, don’t even think about it! Luckily, my car’s suspension was able to handle it and everything else was amazing.
The place was perfect for my wife and I. I knew the property was in a neighborhood and was pleasantly surprised that there was a quaint town with small shop and restaurants nearby. It is just a few miles from Downtown Jacksonville and we enjoyed the art and farmer’s market under the I95 bridge. The kitchen are was a little more than we expected as well. We often eat in when traveling but were planning to eat out this trip because of the small kitchen. There is a microwave and toaster over which are not shown in the pictures.
We also drove up to Amelia Island which is a quaint historic beach town. Only about 30 minutes or so away.
We had an awesome stay.
Adorale Pool House/Cottage in Bo-ho Chic Historical Neighborhood
I was just there for one night, but the owners were very helpful. This is a true pool house cottage that is very clean. The bed was very comfortable and the owners have thought of everything that one might need for a short stay.
This condo and area are perfect for a quick overnight or a romantic weekend get-away, and there is so much to do within walking distance or a short drive away! The check-in/out process was also very easy. I would definitely recommend and would stay again if in the area!
This little pool cottage in the Avondale neighborhood is perfect for a getaway or a game-day weekend! It’s located conveniently to Everbank field. The neighborhood has several cute shops and restaurants within walking distance! Hosts were responsive to questions and concerns.

About the host
Hosted by LuAnn Dunkinson
We are an empty nester couple who are enjoying our adopted hometown of Jacksonville! We live in the main house on the property. Travel is our foremost passion and we spent all of 2014 traveling around the world with just us and our carry-ons. This is how we were introduced to VRBO since this was our main go-to on that adventure! We have a very sweet gentle Great Dane, Heidi, who you may occasionally see out taking a sunbath!
Why they chose this property
We love our mid century modern home in the Historic District and when we discovered the potential of our pool cottage we were even more excited. Our neighborhood is so wonderful with such a varied amount of architectural styles, mainly dating back to the 1900's. A perfect place for a leisurely walk with a stop in one of Avondale's great restaurants.
What makes this property unique
The benefit of this location is that it is so completely walkable and relaxing if you prefer to stay in the neighborhood. . Or, hop into your car, and about a half an hour later you can also be at the beach! Less than a half hour and you can visit downtown, or be at the stadium for a Jag's game, or even visit our wonderful zoo. Wander a bit further to one of the coastal reserves- Big or Little Talbot and Amelia Island. You will not be bored.
