Welcome to Howling Rock!

Howling Rock is an incredibly nice, upscale, 4BR log home on a beautiful property near the top of Seven Devils with views of Grandfather and the surrounding mountains. Centrally-located and convenient to all the High Country offers, Howling Rock is only 9 miles from Banner Elk, 10 miles from Boone, and 12 miles from Blowing Rock. The village of Valle Crucis, with its huge riverfront park, and the original Mast General Store, is only 10 miles away.

Seven Devils is the home of Hawksnest Snow Tubing & ZipLine Park, which is only 3 miles away. Otter Falls trails and the town park are only 2 miles away. Grandfather Mountain and its famous Profile trails are 5 miles away. Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, which also has a great 18-hole golf course and tennis courts during warmer months, is a short 7-mile drive away. Both Beech Mountain Ski Resort and Appalachian Ski Mountain are about 15 miles away. Tweetsie Railroad, between Boone and Blowing Rock, is 16 miles away.

Walk into the main level of Howling Rock and find an open-concept living, dining, and kitchen area with warm wood floors and ceilings and log walls. The kitchen is updated and well-equipped with granite counters and stainless appliances. The adjacent dining table seats eight guests, plus two more at the central kitchen island countertop bar. The living room has comfy leather furniture and a warm stone, floor-to-ceiling, gas log fireplace, as well as a large HD Smart TV. There is also a half bath/powder room with a live-edge, wood slab pedestal, and a copper vessel sink on the main level. Step out on the main level deck to find a covered rear deck spanning over onto a nice open-air side patio. There is comfy outdoor furniture for relaxing, a gas grill, and an outdoor dining table. All of this open to breathtaking mountain views!

Also on the main level is the primary master suite, with a king bed, an HD Smart TV, and sliding glass doors opening to the rear deck and leading to the hot tub. The private ensuite master bathroom with his and hers granite vanities, a huge tiled shower with built-in seating, a bidet, and a toilet with a heated seat.

The upstairs features a large loft with a full-sized slate pool table, a table for checkers and chess, a comfy seating area, and a cool arcade-style Golden Tee golf game. There are two more bedrooms upstairs, one with a queen bed and an HD Smart TV, and a larger one with a king log bed, an HD Smart TV, and glass doors framing the best views in the house opening onto a Juliette deck! There is a central full bathroom upstairs with a tub and shower combo.

The lower level boasts another king suite, also with an HD Smart TV, sliding glass doors opening to the large lower deck, and showing show off the vista. The ensuite full bathroom is jack-and-jill style, with direct access from the bedroom as well as from the den through a second door. This full bathroom has a granite vanity with his-and-hers double sinks and a large tiled shower. The den has an HD Smart TV, glass doors onto the lower rear deck, and two very cool features - the Sofa converts into a twin-over-twin bunk bed, and the console below the TV opens up to provide a queen Murphy bed. Sleep up to four more guests in the comfy den. There is also a lower kitchenette and bar off of the den, which has a stainless fridge and freezer, butcher block wood counters, and a large stainless sink. A laundry room with a washer and dryer is on this lower level. The lower rear deck is very spacious, with a gorgeous picnic-style wood table, comfy chairs, and affords fantastic stellar views.

Howling Rock also has a detached two-car garage for covered parking, as well as a fun front yard with a wood-burning fire pit with seating, and a horseshoe pitch. WiFi Internet, HD Smart TVs throughout with Internet TV programming, and central heating and air conditioning for year-round comfort. Seven Devils

We really enjoyed our stay. The home is beautiful and the sunset and view of the mountains is gorgeous. The deck was so nice to relax on in the evening with the comfy furniture. My son loved the pool table and my daughter loved the hot tub. We had plenty of room for all of us. Beds were comfortable, home was nicely stocked and it was pet friendly. We enjoyed the winery close by and Banner Elk for dinner. Definitely want to stay here again sometime soon.

Weekend getaway

Stayed here with my family of five and another family of four, plenty of room, comfortable beds, nice layout on main floor, hot tub was functional, views were great. Could have used a couple of rolls of paper towels and a few extra garbage bags but otherwise no complaints. Be prepared for a steep windy climb!

Beautiful Mountain Getaway with a View

We got the whole family together (12) for the New Year and enjoyed tubing, skiing and hiking due to the warm weather. We also got to show ours kids where Mom and Dad met at App..... The home is situated with a breathtaking view of Grandfather Mountain. There are 4 bedrooms that easily sleep 8 and 2 pull out sofas and a roller twin in the basement for the other 5. Pool Table, Jacuzzi and hikinh up the mountain around the house were big hits for the kids. The drive up from 105 takes about 10-15 minutes due to the steep inclines and you will definitely need 4WD if it's cold and snowy but it's totally worth it. It gets dirty with people in and out all the time. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it. Only suggestion is a way to service the hot tub.

Perfect Family Weekend

Wow. This property does not disappoint! The property management was excellent to work with and the property itself is so well maintained and just as advertised. Perfect spot for two families and grandparents to build memories- there is plenty for all to do from the rec room pool table/checkers to the hot tub, fire pit and horseshoes! And all of our favorites- the gorgeous views from the porch with a cup of coffee. Thank you!

Great house with amazing views and better amenities

The house was awesome with lots to do and centrally located. The only issue was that we had paid for early checkin and the cleaning crew was there when we arrived. The management team responded to our issue immediately and gave us a refund for the early checkin and also comped us late checkout. Great spot!

Top of the World

The house is awesome! You have a great view from your porch. My boys and their girlfriends loved the hot tub! We played pool, which we had not done in forever and made some great family memories! Deer and chipmunks were in our yard daily! The drive to the house does require 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicles, but the road up was beautiful . We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it. The house could use some more attention when cleaning, there are cob webs in the windows and a few more corners, other than that, almost heaven!

Great Views

Property was just as pictured. Beautiful views. Very steep drive up the hill. Not for the faint of heart! Bring enough food and supplies to stay in for dinner. I couldn’t imagine trying to navigate in the dark! Plenty of activities to keep you busy. Loved the pool table and camp fire. Make sure you wash down chairs before sitting. Full of spiders and cobwebs, but you are in the woods. Beds very comfortable. Kitchen well stocked. Lower level amazing! Like a separate apartment.

Fantastic property. We will definitely try to be back.

We had a great stay for our annual high country Super Bowl get away. Everything was just as advertised and the house comfortably housed our party of 8. Five stars across the board and would definitely recommend you booking this property. The Mountain View’s were fantastic, and the hot tub, fire pit, and open floor plan on the main room were amazing. The only hiccup we had was during Check-In. We purchased early check in but when we arrived at the time (1pm) our automated code wasn’t updated to reflect it. Cell phone service is spotty in the High Country so we had to travel back down the mountain to leave Seven Devils to make a call to the property manager to get an updated door code. Once we made it back up the code worked perfectly and our extended weekend was underway. Book this house!

Great cabin with nice elevation and view. We just love the Seven Devil area - close to Boone/Banner Elk/Blowing Rock and Grandfather. We enjoyed lots of fun with the pool table and the hot tub was much needed after our strenuous hiking adventures. The cabin had everything we needed and was decorated nicely. A definite top pick for our next trip.

Parents Weekend Getaway

The cabin offered us a wonderful location to celebrate Parents Weekend at App State. The property was spotless, spacious, and beautiful. The kids (and adults) enjoyed playing pool. The adults had plenty of room to spread out and watch App State beat Campbell. We are looking forward to booking this property again.

Heavenly Getaway

I rented the cabin for a family getaway with my two adult children and their families as well as my ex-husband and his girlfriend. We are indeed a modern family! I enjoyed the privacy this house provided along with all the fun perks. The ground floor is more like an apartment - my son, his wife and 2 kids took over that area and it worked out great. Everybody else was in couples and a room was sufficient. The master bedroom is amazing! We all enjoyed the BBQ, hot tub, fire pit and enjoying nature at its best in the outside areas which made for memorable family times. The pool table and general game room was fabulous as well. We were able to visit the area activities and return to a comfy and well appointed home at the end of the day. Thank you for sharing your mountain paradise! Great place

Great place, hot tub was lovely and views were wonderful. The directions are pretty bad though, most of our group got lost. We found it eventually. Also the walls are very, very thin. We could here everything in the upper two floors, I believe the bottom floor was more quiet. All in all it was what we needed and a little more.

The home was so accommodating! Had all the kitchen supplies we could possibly need for great meals! The game room loft was hours of entertainment! The multiple sleeping floors made it possible to enjoy each other while having privacy when needed! The views are spectacular! You should advertise more clearly how you are literally looking at Grandfather Mountain!! That was a great and wonderful surprise!! The outside seating was plentiful and comfortable and I loved the gas line to grill on deck! We love cooking outside so it was wonderful! We saw deer in yard, which were so fun to watch! Flowers a plentiful! Well maintained home! Thank you for sharing!!! We will be back! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Exceeded Expectations

Where to begin? Amazing Views of Grandfather Mountain; ample, well-laid out indoor and outdoor space, fantastic fire pit area, modern appliances, comfortable beds, nice pool table, accommodating hot tub, and on and on. My family often rents cabins in the mountains, and this is one where I can truly say, the pictures do NOT do it justice. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Wonderful stay!
