From the outside this is an imposing building with a rich history of accommodating officers of French law, but as you step into the beautiful reception area, be prepared for a surprise.

There are 4 two bedroom apartments, all spacious with king, queen or twin beds, well-equipped kitchen and large bathroom. Outside there's a private balcony and shared used of the large pool - with a shallow end of children

It's a great conversion of an old, stone, village building and one of the biggest surprises is to find such a large pool area, hidden from view of the village. Again take a look at the photos to get an idea of the great views and privacy of this property.

Within a few minutes walk of the apartment are shops, cafes, ice cream parlour, general store, restaurants, electric bike hire, tennis courts and a weekly market.

The winding roads of the Luberon, with spectacular views, are great to explore and you'll find loads of picturesque villages (Gordes, Menerbes, Maubec) on the doorstep.

Just a short drive away there's a great Sunday morning market at Coustellet and the larger town of Apt is only 15 minutes away.

There's loads to do and see in the area; St Remy-de-Provence, famous for its Roman architecture, Les Baux with its ruined castle and unique rock formations, L'Isle sur la Sorgue, famous as an antique centre and market. Also within easy reach are Pont du Gard, Avignon with the Palace of the Popes, Marseille with its famous waterfront, the Amphitheatre at Nimes and the cultured avenues of Aix-en-Provence.

If activity is your thing, this area is perfect for climbing, cycling, mountain biking, trekking, golf, tennis and swimming.

The village of Bonnieux has a rich and varied history and is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the Luberon.

In summer the village is really popular and therefore has some great restaurants and cafés. Although not very big, it has some useful and interesting shops, including bakers, butchers, grocery, pharmacy, post office and tourist information centre. There's also a local market on a Friday.

Bel appartement en plein centre, avec piscine partagée
Comme sur les photos ! Bel emplacement plutôt dans le haut de Bonnieux, un parking réservé au pied de l’ancienne gendarmerie. 2 belles chambres, un grand balcon donnant sur la piscine partagée de la résidence. Un salon avec cuisine ouverte bien agréable avec vue sur Lacoste. Buanderie dans les communs bien pratique. Christian qui nous a reçus a été adorable et charmant. Manque un peu de vaisselle et il n’y a pas de climatisation. Les courants d’air sont facilement créés car l’appartement est traversant. Très agréable séjour !

Un havre de paix
La vieille gendarmerie est un endroit tres plaisant et agréable. Tout s'est bien passé. L'appartement est idéal pour 4 et très bien décoré. Il est au coeur du village avec une vie magnifique sur la paysage. Bonnieux est un très beau village.

A lovely French apt with a wonderful rustic charm
The location is stunning and the apartment within the old gendarmerie was lovely, with a beautiful pool and views. It is immaculately kept and Christian was exceptionally helpful and friendly from the moment we called en-route from the airport, offering guidance throughout our holiday, which enabled us to maximise our experiences in only a week. We had a wonderful time and certainly hope to return.

Perfect Spot among thousands
We travelled by car from Barcelona to Bonnieux. A very easy and pleasant drive and were welcomed by the Manager Christian with open arms. Nothing was too difficult and he made our stay very memorable. The accommodation was perfectly positioned in the middle of the town close to restaurants (a couple were outstanding), shops and the many historic buildings that attracted us to Bonnieux and surrounds in the first instance. Our room was spacious, clean with excellent views of the countryside and a lovely pool to cool down in after a day exploring all the local villages. Our trip to the South of France was absolutely enhanced by our stay in Bonnieux and the Old Gendarmerie. I would thoroughly recommend this property to any visitors thinking of staying in Bonnieux or the Luberon for that matter!!

Lovely apartment in perfect setting
The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. It is ideally located in the heart of the village of Bonnieux which is a stunning village in the Luberon. The shared pool was magical and we loved sitting on the balcony in the evening, watching the sun go down. Bliss! We will be back.

Fantastic accommodation in a beautiful setting.
We had a wonderful week in The Old Gendarmerie 2 in Bonnieux. The setting is fantastic, a beautiful village which gives you a true feeling of life in Provence. The accommodation gave spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and was situated in the heart of the village. The apartment, overlooking the shared pool, was lovely- clean, tidy and well equipped. Christian, the manager, was on hand to help with any queries and was extremely hospitable and welcoming. A wonderful experience, I am missing the place already!

Breath taking Bonnieux and appartment
The appartment was everything and more than expected. It had the feel of Provence through and through. The situation in the village was great. Handy for everything including a mid afternoon stroll from the pool side to the ice cream parlour. It was just fantastic

Fabulous get-away!
Lovely apartment - comfortable, quiet, well-furnished, and a great lay-out - with a nice deck for breakfasts and relaxing in the evening. The pool was just as pictured. Bonnieux is charming, very walkable hill town - a variety of restaurants, bakeries, small grocery store, ATM, and two ice cream shops.

Wonderful respite in Bonnieux
Everything was perfect with plenty of room for two couples. Best of all was a secured parking space in a tiny town with narrow streets. Close to everything in Provence, good roads and signage. Bonnieux has many restaurants in walking distance of tge apartment, small markets and a fabulous boulangerie for your morning croissant abd baguette.

Great apartment in a perfect location
Our second stay in the Old Gendarmerie, and we enjoyed it every bit as much as the first. It's so convenient to be able to walk to the bakery, butcher and mini-supermarket in a couple of minutes, no need to use the car. The kitchenette is quite basic, but adequate for breakfast and lunch (which we usually had on the balcony), and Bonnieux has loads of places to eat out. The pool is a decent size, and there are plenty of chairs and loungers, and shade if you need it (we did!). We have booked through Joie de Vivre several times, and they are a pleasure to deal with.

A comfortable & historical apartment
Things I loved- The position in beautiful Bonnieux, the historical links, such as the worn stone steps & the front door with its peephole etc. The pool was lovely in the warn weather. The excellent customer service from Claude on check in. Things that would make the apartment even more comfortable. Some better signage, no where could I find a sign with the Old Gendarmerie, we struggled to find the building. Some instructions in English for cable TV & the coffee machine with many buttons &'the washing machines. The toilet down by the pool could be cleaned & supplied with toilet paper. Some more cutlery would be useful& some decent wine glasses are always nice. We did find the bedrooms very small but that is not uncommon in Europe. The floors looked they could do with a good scrub. However all that aside it was a comfortable apartment in a gorgeous town. I would stay here again

Most enjoyable
The fact that we were returning after staying here two years ago is probably recommendation enough. The apartment is fresh, clean, quiet, comfortable and close to the centre of the village. The owners were very helpful in arranging a taxi to bring us (non-drivers) from the closest bus stop at Le Pont Julien into Bonnieux – they were also very prompt with answering any email enquiries or bookings. We were pleased we made use of the (electric) bikes available for hire immediately below the apartment – certainly a different way to see the area surrounding the village. The supermarket, although small, had everything we needed, and is only minutes from the apartment. Ice creams, cakes and baguettes were all up to top French standards. We'd certainly be strongly tempted to go again.

Cobblestoned Village...Picture Perfect Setting
This was our first stay in an apartment abroad. We were enchanted by the space and the at-home feel. A comfortable apartment after a glorious day of sightseeing welcomed us. We loved whipping up breakfasts, snacks, picnic lunches, and suppers from our well-stocked, clean kitchen, ready-made supplies available at the local marché, épicerie, boulangerie, and pâtisserie. The views from each window graced us morning and evening. We spent our days exploring charming, neighboring villages, having extensively visited Provence's tourist highlights on previous trips. Our stay was the most enchanting and relaxing part of our month-long trip. We will travel again with Joie de Vivre!

Charming apartment in beautiful village
Very comfortable, well decorated apartment with views over Luberon hills and sunny balcony in historic building. Everything we wanted in apartment - clean and in good working order. Even better than listing! In centre of Bonnieux and well located for day trips. Many good restaurants - our favourite was the Station restaurant just outside of town - full of locals. (Hard to find - ask at tourist office close to The Old Gendarmerie). Booking process very easy, all questions answered promptly and deposit return quickly. Very reasonable price for quality accommodation. Definitely looking forward to returning soon. Would highly recommend.

We liked the position on the first floor and the thick walls so the apartment was relatively cold in this very hot summer... We liked the atmosphere and the central position within the village: everything was very close - so the car just could stay at our parking...

We loved the super old fashioned french bakery at walking distance and the apartment was lovely! Nice views, nicely shaped rooms, tasteful and useful decor and fit out! Oh, and our kids loved the pool!
We liked it a lot! The village is sweet, the apartment was nice, christian, the concierge was sweet and attentive. The area is beautiful. No complaints! it was all good (except for the boiling hot temperatures... but that`s climate change, hei, and nothing to blame a holiday destination for... ??)
