About the host
Hosted by Jim and Sue Keating

We, Jim and Sue Keating have been married for over 55 years. We retired after 15 years of organic farming in 2012. Prior to that Jim was a university professor for over 30 years and Sue was a homemaker, entrepreneur and local food store manager. After our retirement we spend about half a year each summer at the France property. We have renovated part of the old barn into a modern efficiency apartment and the old farmer's house which is a three story house. We now rent these two dwelling during the summer while we are in France. These are in addition to the main house, where we live. We enjoy the quiet rural farm setting being able to harvest the abundant produce and preserving some of the fruits from our property. Of course we enjoy the great French wine and pastries.
Why they chose this property
We, Jim and Sue Keating, inherited Les Silves, the family property of Sue's father, Marcel Silve in 1987. The property has been in the family since 1903. Over the past 30+ years we have been coming to France often and making many improvements. Since our retirement in 2012 we have been spending about half a year in France.
What makes this property unique
FROM LAVENDER FIELDS TO WINE COUNTRY, YOU’RE GOING TO LOVE YOUR STAY!
Within an hour or two’s drive, you can make it to Aix-en-Provence for cultural fair, the Verdon Gorge for the “Grand Canyon” of France, the prized Gigandas and the entire Cotes-du-Rhone wine region, and also be in the base of the alps.
At Les Silves we love the great weather during the summer allowing us to enjoy the sunset while having a glass of wine on our terrace most every evening. Of course we enjoy the local farmers markets (3 per week) where you can sample and purchase local foods and delicacies and socialize with the locals and friends. We enjoy the early morning coffee and croissants at local bars. During the summer most small towns in the local area have weekly activities, such as Friday nights in Ribiers there is live music and street dancing. Other activities includes local concerts, presentations, festivals. There is also the Gorges de la Meouge within about 15 minutes where you can swim, picnic or hike.
