About this property

Stunning Three Bedroom Barn Conversion Sleeps 6, takes pets. Near beaches and Exmoor.

Enjoying a rural village location, The Byre-Cross Farm is an ideal stay for those wishing to relax in a slice of traditional Devon, yet with all the modern conveniences of contemporary living. With its tucked away edge of village location, you are just a stroll away from the village pub that serves up locally produced ales and food throughout the day.
Enjoy some spectacular views just a short walk from the property for any budding photographer, painter or walker taking in the sites as you look down the valley over Barnstaple and up the river Taw out to sea. Some of the most awe inspiring views and walks can also be found on the rugged Exmoor National Park, and along the North Devon coastline, littered with miles and miles of un-spoilt golden sandy beaches. The principle North Devon market town of Barnstaple is just 2 miles by car and offers a wealth of local and national high street shopping brands, as well as a multi-screen cinema, theatre and super bowl plus, a 12 court tennis complex.
The cottage has been stylishly converted from an old barn and many of the original features have been retained including the round pillars unique to this area of North Devon. The cottage has 3 bedrooms a large master bedroom with an oak king-size bed and en-suite bathroom with a large bath and shower attachment, plus wash-basin and WC. The second bedroom is a twin with 2 single beds and fitted wardrobe and bedside tables and lamps. The third bedroom is a fun bunk bedroom with two adult size single beds.
The family bathroom is just outside the twin bedroom and has an electric power-shower, sink and wc.
The kitchen is set down 3 small steps and has everything you need for family cooking, with an electric cooker and hob, a micro-wave, dishwasher, washer-dryer, large fridge-freezer and all the pots and pans and utensils you'll need.
Down another two steps is the dining area with a large pine table with table cloth and six chairs as well as a dresser with books and games and a music system.
Finally down another couple of small steps is the lounge with two large, comfy sofas and a slate coffee table, along with a flat-screen TV and DVD.
Outside there is a lawned garden which can be accessed via patio doors and has a wood table and chairs and to the left is a secure garden with a gate to keep pets in, here there is another table and benches and a built-in BBQ. The garden pond is tucked away in the corner and is securely fenced in to keep curious children out.
There are some lovely walks from the cottage, where dogs are welcome but should be kept on leads as the fields will be full of sheep.

Very nicely appointed country cottage in peaceful setting.
We thoroughly enjoyed our summer stay in this neat and quiet country cottage. Very well restored with ample space and accommodation. Well equipped modern kitchen and dining and living rooms. Easy access to local village and surrounding tourist attractions. Very relaxing and rejuvenating environment.

Our stay at the Byre.
A nice spacious holiday home, in a scenic quiet location, with friendly host. Was great to have 2 parking spaces, right next to the property and a small enclosed garden to let our dogs run around in and the welcome pack was a nice touch. The level of cleanliness was a bit disappointing, all floors and surfaces has been thoroughly cleaned, but the walls and ceilings were full of spiders webs and spiders. So we spent the first 2 hours of our stay cleaning. The 2 couches were extremely soft and the kitchen tap constantly dipped. Also there was no toilet paper, luckily we had brought some with us. Overall we did enjoyed our stay at the Byre and the location, with a few small improvements, it would be a perfect holiday home.

Cosy and close to beaches
We stayed over Christmas this year and the property was extremely toasty and warm! Loads of room for everyone! Hosts were lovely. We didn't visit the pub but we did have a lovely walk on Boxing Day in Ilfracombe, which is very easy to get to and the drove back to Goodleigh via the very beautiful coastal road. If you have prey driven dogs like us be advised the garden is not enclosed, which just means you have to be vigilant when letting your hounds out. There are loads of shops in Barnstaple which is only a couple of miles away. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend.

The Byre
An all too short weeks break. Ideally situated for a variety of activities and a lovely place to come home to each evening. We’ll appointed but a few niggles with missing lightbulbs which needed replacing. Very responsive hosts. Something for consideration may be hand rails down the steps between areas if staying with older family.

Great Cottage
The cottage/barn conversion is a very well equipped and comfortable. The layout is good with a nice large dining table that we could comfortably sit around of an evening. The gardens were kept well and was a nice area to sit out in and for the dogs to play. The location is great, far enough away from Barnstaple to be quiet and secluded it also close enough to easily collect groceries etc. The area surrounding The Byre is beautiful and I strongly recommend the walk through to Two Rivers along the track directly below the cottage. My only criticism would be the pillows in the bedroom were far to soft for me and caused me some problems getting comfortable at night, I’m used to a fairly firm pillow so this is obviously just personal opinion! The only other issue was the shower screen was very stiff to operate but it didn’t prevent us from using it. The proprietor was a nice, helpful guy who stopped for a chat when we saw him. All in all a very nice, comfortable holiday let that I would recommend highly.

Property great, pub a let down.
This was a great place for our stay. Comfortable warm clean and everything we needed. Excellent value. Nothing to do with the property but twice we tried to book with the pub, the second time we tried on the Monday and first day we could go was Friday, we left Friday! Surely not all tables were booked all night, we just wanted an early evening drink. BUT, this does not reflect on the Byre which was excellent . Thanks for a great week.

Nice and quiet location with superb pub/restaurant in the village. Cottage well fitted out,but let down by a few cleanliness issues which we had to do ourselves which was a pity as we expected better.

Quiet retreat
Beautifully positioned in a quiet village with decent pub food nearby. It does need some travel to get to likely touring spots. The layout is very good, being a barn/byre conversion. It would be good to have a better shower facility in the main bedroom though, to avoid morning queues for the one that serves the rest of the house. there is a bath and shower attachment in the en suite but we never take a bath, only showers. The television when we were there had a bit of a mind of its own when trying to change channels and adjust the volume - we had to switch off and start again. Not sure if it's the TV or the remote with the problem. A minor thing though. All the appliances we used worked well and the kitchen was well equipped. A very enjoyable stay.

Nice quiet Get away
A great rural property at the edge of a small village, ideally located to trips out. Spacious, comfortable and away from the main town amenities. Ideal for a secluded break, but close enough to the main town by car. Would recommend.

Our weeks holiday in Devon
The accommodation is very spacious with a very nice outside area. The bed was comfortable. However we were a bit disappointed on arrival that the fridge and freezer had not been switched on. We did not realise at first after having put food items in there. The sofas were so tired, you sank into them and struggled to get out of them. There were a few basics missing like tea towels etc. We enjoyed our stay but a little more care could be given to improve the standard.

The Byre
Nice property in a quiet village. It would have been a 4 out of 5 but is just wasn't clean enough when we arrived. The hard floors hadn't been mopped and the surfaces were dusty. In the current environment we would have expected more. However property had all we needed for a comfortable week.

Lovely short break
Lovely accommodation and location. Small village, no shop only a pub which was closed while we were there. Ideally located for Exmoor (Tarr Steps) also the Tarka Trail. Hired bikes and cycled to Bideford and walked the trail (on another day) to Braunton. A thoroughly lovely few days away. The weather was very good which is always and added bonus!

Spacious, well equipped.
Located in a very quiet location is this spacious, well equipped holiday home. Plenty of room for our group of 4 adults, 1 child and two small dogs. It has a fenced off part of the garden for the dogs complete with BBQ, a pond and a bigger open grassed area. The dining table seats 6 with ease. Two bathrooms so no queueing in the mornings. Very near Barnstaple for shopping and easy driving to numerous beaches. 2 minute walk to the pub in the village. The owner lives next door and is very discreet.

THE BEAUTIFUL BYRE
This beautiful conversion, way exceeded expectation. You can never really tell from a picture how big or small the accommodation is actually going to be. I was beginning to doubt my decision to book, as wondered whether there would be enough space to escape my grandchildren - love them, but they don't come with volume controls. On entering this property, I was instantly "wowed", even without doing the customary "reccy". A kitchen most people would be very proud of, and extremely well equipped. A dining area big enough for all of us to sit round and have room for serving dishes and am ample lounge area. The master bedroom was huge, the two further bedrooms were perfectly adequate. It was nice to have the choice of bath or shower. The children preferred the bath, the adults the shower - which worked and plenty of hot water. The barn is obviously well insulated - I had to keep turning the heating down. I would like to pick up this dwelling, plonk it in the middle of a nice plot of land and live in it happily ever after.

Comfortable & Quiet Location
Pro's: Nice comfortable spacious accommodation in quiet location, friendly owner. Would stay again, recommended. Cons: Wifi limited to 10GB/month - not much for a family with multiple devices. Oven and pans could be cleaner.

A charming cottage
We had a fabulous time staying at the Byre - it is a perfect base for a holiday, close to local beaches & local attractions yet in a perfectly quiet unspoilt country location. It is very comfortably furnished to a high standard, well equipped & the whole family, including our dogs, were made extremely welcome. We plan to return!
