About this property

Ponchatoula Historic Home away from Home

This house is135 year old with most of the structure restored in its original condition and foundations have been worked on to hopefully give this old gem another 135 years of memories. Find your perfect home away from home with all extra accommodations for guests up to 11 in our 4 bedroom charm. Air mattress provided for guests over 9. We are happy to accept your pets for as long as they are trained and we do our best to keep the grass cut before guests stays for them to enjoy the fenced in backyard. There are baggies in the drawer so please pick up their business before leaving.
Upon arrival please use the private driveway to park. Combination lock will be provided prior to your stay.
Master bedroom has a private bathroom. 2 queen bed bedrooms and bunk bed room have a common bathroom with clawfoot tub and shower. All rooms have televisions with Hulu live tv and smart access movie options. The side door will be operated with your very own private code to enter. The front porch is a true southern staple to enjoy your coffee or afternoon breaks on the rocking chairs. Toiletry, Shampoo, Soaps will be provided. Extra Towels, Linens, Blankets are provided. There is a Washer and Dryer with detergent and cleaning supplies to use for all of our guests. The kitchen is fully stocked with essentials and checked/updated before each guest stay. The backyard is fenced in and a BBQ with smoker and a large picnic table is there to enjoy in the privacy of the fenced in back yard.
Complimentary Coffee and a few snacks will be provided and available to you upon arrival to make your stay truly one that makes you feel at home.
Step outside to enjoy an outdoor campfire, private backyard, or walk 5 minutes and be in the midst of a quaint Antique shopping experience or a dine and wine enjoying a live band at roux & brew 7 days a week.

Wedding Weekend
I don't even know where to start. My family and I have stayed at this home twice now and we absolutely LOVE it. It has become our home away from home for weddings at Chesterton Square. Jeffrey and Ursula are absolutely wonderful and they make the house feel like HOME! We're already thinking of other reasons to book this home in the future. We will definitely be back as long as they'll have us.

Horrible People DO NOT RENT
I rented as the ad stated, 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps 9. No where did it state that only two people are allowed and everyone else is more. Also, the air conditioning did not work properly and the owner stated that the hole in the outside unit that causes the AC not to work; was caused by a hurricane IDA that occurred 4 years ago. The night that we got there was horrible, the air conditioning didn't work (the house was at 80 degrees) and termites were swarming and literally coming out of the holes in the walls. We were covered in flying termites and had to retreat to our rooms. In my room that i stayed in, i stepped to the side of the tv to figure out why a wire was dangling and it wasnt working...that's when i fell through the floor. The owner admitted that the hole had been there for some time and that i should not have been in that room. He had a rug over the hole which was open to the outside. I rented a four bedroom house, not a three bedroom. On our second day, after telling the owner about the problems, he tried to extort me into paying an extra $275 fee for my extra employees. I told him that i didn't think that was fair or ethical because the house was not up to expected standards and that i would pay the fee if he fixed the Air conditioning and checked on the bug problem. He refused to compromise and had me and my employees evicted by the police at 7pm. As i have dug deeper into these crooks, I have found that this is a common occurrence. DO NOT RENT

LSU Spring Break
We had a great time visiting with our granddaughter while she was on Spring Break from LSU staying in this charming 1886 restored home! It was perfect for our family and our host went above what we needed! We recommend highly and hope to come back soon!! Thanks Ursula

This is a beautiful historic home that the owner has kept in beautiful shape that lets the old character of the home shine through. The home comfortably fit all 7 of us and let us enjoy some family time.

Family pit stop before boarding our cruise
The home was very accommodating - relaxing lighting and music was a cozy welcome for our stay in Ponchatoula. Nice, quiet and safer option to staying in NOLA. We played basketball, did some porch sitting, scoped out the orange tree (first time I ever saw one!) and watched a movie. Just a short drive from anything you could possibly need. I realized my husband didn’t load my luggage and we even made a trip to Target for wardrobe. Everyone rested well in this quiet neighborhood. Some of us are history buffs/admirers so the home was fascinating. Ursula had snacks and coffee available- even left us strawberries to enjoy. We made the short drive to Middendorf’s and had a wonderful dinner. Even though Ursula is a LSU fan, she was an amazing hostess. I’m hoping this is our yearly tradition. Woooo Pig Sooie

Coming back was just as good...Another quick stay with the fam
Having stayed here once 2 weeks prior on our way through Louisiana, we just booked this great place again. Glad we did as the 2nd stay was just as good as the 1st. Ursula is so easy to get a hold of. She made sure the house was nice a cool (which was great considering how hot it has been). Everything clean and ready to go as usual. This is a great space for a larger group of people. All bedrooms are a good size and highly functional. Happy to recommend this classic of a home to anyone going through the New Orleans/Hammond/Ponchatoula area. Oh, yes, it's quiet and comfy.

Why they chose this property

The property was originally build in 1890, upon buying this property we kept the original structure and transformed minimal areas such has added on closet and electrical updating, insulation and plumbing, other then these minimal updating requirements, the house was kept in it's original condition, original woodwork etc.
It makes this house a unique place to be and to call home even if it's just for a short stay. :)

Wake up to a beautiful sunrise sitting on the front porch rocking chair or swing, walk out to a game of basket ball, use the exercise bike provided for you in the hallway and soak in the large Antique clawfoot tub feeling refreshed. Enjoy all your amenities included with nothing more then sitting back, turn off your stress and mind and let the day take you wherever you wish in this small friendly Strawberry town where you will feel at home away from home!
