About this property

The Breeze - romantic beach oasis 1/2 Block to Beach

Imagine staying in a airy, bright, French country style cottage situated in a lush tropical garden only 1/2 block away from wonderful Venice Beach. Our 2 bedroom 1 bath Breeze Cottage has been completely remodeled by a local LA interior/production designer, who has years of experience in film & television, and has created a one-of-a-kind vacation rental. All the rooms exude the peace and tranquility of a French country resort.

You know you’re going somewhere special as you enter the bamboo fenced yard that surrounds The Breeze Cottage. You enter to find a luscious front yard with 4 person Jacuzzi next to a hand crafted grass and teak hut where you can lounge away the afternoons in the shade. The large deck with two wicker club chairs is perfect for relaxing in the sun, and are next to a bistro table for outdoor dining. There’s even an outdoor shower to wash off your sandy toes when you come home from the beach.

The main area of the Breeze Cottage is open and airy with a fully-equipped kitchen overlooking the dining and living room. They are separated from the front yard and deck by wall to wall sliding glass doors creating a seamless indoor/outdoor experience. It is perfect for watching little ones play outdoors or simply enjoying the scenery of the lush garden. The new custom kitchen has bead board cupboards, new stainless steel appliances and a farmhouse sink. The living area has a comfortable oversized sofa (with queen fold-out bed), 42” flat screen HDTV, BlueRay DVD player, CD player, and cable. The dining area has seating for 6. You can add the bistro table to serve 8.

The entire unit has hardwood floors throughout with unique furnishings from around the world. All of the closet doors are of distressed wood imported from India, they full of charm and character. The furnishings are reminiscent of a cottage in the South of France.
The charming master bedroom has a comfortable king size bed with gorgeous wood headboard and a flat screen HDTV equipped with cable. The second bedroom is quaint with a antique wrought iron head board and cozy queen size bed. There is a comfortable sleeper queen-size sofa in the living room.

Adjacent to the Breeze Cottage is a delightful studio apartment with its own kitchenette, bath & quaint patio. The studio also has a flat screen HDTV, BlueRay DVD player and cable. The charming bathroom boasts a wonderful, restored antique claw foot tub. The bed can be made up as a king or 2 extra-long twins, your choice. Sleeps 2 very comfortably. Left and went to a hotel

First of all, do not let the name of this apartment unit confuse you. It is not a cottage, it is an apartment with adjoining rooms and paper thin walls. Hot tub was not usable. We told Bernadette on day one that it smelled bad and her assistant via text message the following day. They did call to have a service man to come out to clean it on day three. Once you can use the hot tub expect the upstairs residents to watch you out their window the whole time. Also, my husband had to fix the toilet because it took 5 minutes and multiple attempts to flush. Do not play an acoustic guitar in the living room after 9:00 pm or Byrnadette will call you with noise complaints, threaten to call the police, threaten eviction, and threaten to keep your $1000 deposit. Byrnadette will also verbally abuse you calling you names, calling you a pot smoker, and that you are hallucinating. This is all not true. She also said that there were 5 guests at the apartment when there were only 2. So we got charged an additional $125 for extra guests before we even arrived. There were only two people in a unit advertised of sleeping 8 people. Read the lease agreement carefully. Byrnadette will also take your deposit if your kids make too much noise playing. I wrote a 25 page formal complaint letter to Home Away about the harassing management with documentation about the verbal abuse and name calling. My husband left the apartment and got a hotel and loved the rest of his vacation.

Cute, Comfortable and Convenient!

We really loved our stay at the Breeze cottage. The location couldn’t have been better. We walked everywhere (or used the electric scooters that were everywhere). This was our first time to Venice and we really enjoyed it and will be back! We would stay here again in a heartbeat. The decor is cute and distressed (intentionally). The beds were very comfy. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that it is a little run down in some aspects. This didn’t bother us much, but I can see where other guests are coming from in that regard and wouldn’t call it “5 stars.” But we would go back. And it’s a solid 4 stars. Examples of what was a bit run down: no clocks set to correct time, hot tub had some sand/dirt in it, trash cabinet didn’t close or open well, some of the pans and towels could use an upgrade. But, again, we still really enjoyed our stay and our Venice Beach experience :)

good location

The back yard was a little hard for our 2 year old because it is very uneven. The neighbor left the outside light on all night so it was shining into the sofa sleeper all night. the location was good and the cottage is cute. We very much enjoyed our time in Venice.

Well decorated, but it is an apartment and not a stand-alone cottage in a very funky area of town

We arrived with no one to great us, despite the pre-arranged day and time of arrival with the owner 2 weeks prior. I sent several sms to the owner a few hours prior to our arrival, as a reminder, but she was travelling abroad and her mailbox was full :-( Luckily, we met a neighbour who happened to be renting the apartment upstairs and put us in touch with the owners assistant Kaylee who was sweet and very helpful. She gave us the code to the lock-box with the keys, but we entered the apartment to find that the cleaning crew had not come. Kaylee apologised and came over herself to clean the place and give us new (out of the box) bed sheets and towels while we went to dinner. She was still there cleaning at 10pm when we got home and needed to put our kids to bed. If it were not for Kaylee, it would have been a total disaster. We later discovered that the owner had come down with the Novo Virus in Europe. All in all, our stay was fine, but the owner should be more forthcoming with the arrangements. The Breeze "Cottage" is part of an Apartment Complex that consists of an upstairs apartment (where we heard the footsteps of the family above!)and an adjacent single apartment that one can rent along with the 2-bedroom offer of the Breeze Cottage. Since we had not rented the single, it was rented to another couple. So not only was there noise and light from upstairs, there was also nice from behind the ocked door in the hallway next to our bedroom (they had a separate entrance from the back alley). Venice Beach is a one-of-a-kind place where millionaires homes sit between run-down beach shacks on "Walk-Streets", where cars are not aloud. It sounds charming, but the overall look and feel of the area is rundown and trashy and our walk-street was frequented by a mentally ill man with a skin disease who frightened my kids. Needless tos ay, I did not find the lodging suitable for our family with young children, but I should have been better informed about the area. Within 10 blocks in either direction the area improves greatly. What's great about the property is its proximity to many good restaurants. The beach itself (reachable in 5 min. by walking through the bustle of the Venice Boardwalk and a parking lot,) has beautiful white sand. The water is clean and warm and the lifeguards are very friendly. If you are ok with some funkiness and questionable locks on the door, the decor of the apartment and yard (as seen in the photos) is really cute

Sucia, vieja y muy incomoda.

We had a very bad experience with this house. We arrived at the property 2 hours before the appointed time, the house was very untidy and dirty. Also, everything was very old and in poor condition, had nothing to do with the photos posted on the site. We tried to contact the owners and his assistant who did not respond to us the call. We could talk to the assistant 3 hours later and invited us to return to redisplay the property. We returned but the only difference we found was that was neat, was still very dirty and we could not live there, moreover, that not entered. It is a house that published for 6 people, but can not fit more than 4. It has two small beds and a supposed sofa bed that the mattress is so worn that has no 2 cm thick. Impossible to sleep in. When we explained to the assistant all that, in addition that we did not like the house, and we felt uncomfortable, at first was angry and after explaining that we had no misconduct, she told us that she would return us the money if she could rent the property again. The next day we returned to the house and we found that the house was rented. Other highlights: the property has garage as the ad says, but if you park the car where supposedly the garage, you can not open the front door. Everything is old and run down inside. The beautiful photos were taken 10 years ago when they first published on the site. Today is a disaster. clearly suffers use and tear. In addition, in the house next door is a dog that does not stop barking all the time. The friendliness of the owners, disappeared when I wrote them an email where I explain them that I did not feel comfortable and she sent me several bashing mails, telling me that she does not want to know anything about us, and she will not return us the money back. Casa muy vieja y en malas condiciones. Sucia. No recomiendo.

Worst Experience Ever!!!!!!!!!!!

First and foremost, the cottage is NOT as big as it looks on the picture. The third bedroom is locked and used as a separate rental. -The kitchen has ants -The bath/shower runs at the same time, making it impossible to bath -The air conditioner was broken -The entrance/patio door is broken, it does not close properly, which made me not sleep sound at night -The washer/dryer works when it feels like it -The living room set is dirty -The towels are white/dirty, they need to changed out -The restroom is not clean, hair is all over the floor -The rugs on the floor in all rooms are dirty, I had to pull them up and put them in the closet because I did not feel comfortable walking on them Therefore, I called the property manager the next morning to report the issues in the cottage, she stated to me that the last renters did not have a problem and she did not understand why I had one. Mind you, I was there for 4 days. When day 2 arrived I called again to see if they were going to fix any of the issues and she stated that there were no issues, where do I think I am in a 5 star resort? I stated well are you going to give me a discount she stated NO, I must have came there looking for a discount. It was so much more she stated to me all I could say was WOW so Unprofessional, I am speechless. The only reason I'm giving one star is because of the location!!!!! Ms. Byrnadette di Santo is sooooo..............rude and nasty I hated I had to give her 1 cent! Sincerely, Worst Experience Ever

An oasis tucked away in the heart of Venice Beach

My husband and I rented the cottage mostly because it had a kitchen and a hot tub. We were visiting LA to see our daughter and wanted a place where she and her friends could come to hang out and eat. When we first arrived I was uncertain about the place because the parking spot is in the alley which is not the most inviting place. But once you enter the yard it is an oasis of tropical charm. We found that using the gate to the walking street was so welcoming that we only used the alley when we had to drive. The kitchen is well equipped for all kinds of cooking with a brand new grill out on the deck. Plenty of pots and pans, large refrigerator and a very good coffee pot. The grill was not working at first but one call to Byrnadette and we found the problem. She was very responsive to all our little issues and happy to help in all ways. The hot tub was well received by young and old alike. The decor is so charming. It was white vintage chic with a light airy feel. The only thing I would have changed was the dried/dead flowers on the kitchen hutch. They were the opposite of the rest of the decor. Beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of blankets for beds and fresh white towels in the bathroom. There is an extra bedroom in the back that can be rented for a bigger group. I looked in and it is as charming as the rest. We had a wonderful stay. P.S. I think you should tell your guests about the wonderful farmer's market on Sunday in Venice where you can get breakfast and on Wednesday (mostly produce) in Santa Monica.

Fantastic spot in Venice Beach

We stayed with our family of three children in the lower units for a week in December 2014 and the cottage was absolutely lovely. Byrnadette is very friendly and accommodating via phone, and her staff was on site when we arrived to help with keys, parking and answer our questions about the area. The place was very well kept, quiet and relaxing. We will be back!

Probably nice... several years ago

We were surprised at how dirty this place was. There was hair everywhere, including in the fridge & oven (yes, the oven). When we turned it on for the first time is smoked so badly from all the sludge that we had to open the house up. The baseboards, around the toilet, etc. looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. There was a layer of dust on all the shelves throughout, the furniture was full of stains, & the couch pillows smelled musty. The inside was also infested with tiny ants in the bathroom and kitchen. Wireless does not work well in the living room, but works fine in the bedroom. Washer inside the main house was full of mold and unusable, but luckily we were able to use the other one on the side that was meant for the other tenant. There was no vacuum cleaner in the house and no storage space in the spare bedroom. Only one lights in the kitchen worked. Electricians came during our stay, but were not able to fix it without major construction. Shower is very high and difficult to get in and out of. The house is thin and you can hear all your neighbors. We heard conversations through the floor vents, stomping back and forth from kids running, etc. We also kept getting phone calls from a house phone that was for the neighbors (they gave out the home number?). Kitchen came stocked with utensils for the most part, but had seen better days. The outside patio may have been nice several years ago, but needed a major overhaul. The BBQ was unusable because the flame covers were completely rusted. The Spa was dirty and smelled like mildew, there were flies everywhere, gazebo was unusable (two broken chairs and a small table you can’t sit at), patio furniture was very dirty, and the stone steps were completely covered in algae from the daily watering, so much that I slipped on one and my foot was completely green. Outside parking space is difficult with a SUV, but doable if you are a good driver. There are several trash cans behind it, which makes it difficult. The trashcans are also infested with flies so we had to hurry to get in and out of the car. The owner was difficult to get a hold of (lives out of the country), so the only way was through email. I didn’t get any instructions on how to access the house until I emailed the day before. I also had to email several times to get my deposit back. The area is convenient, walking distance to the beach and shops and the supplied boogie boards and bike was nice. This is why I gave this place any stars at all.

Good location but not so lovely

First the good--the hot tub is hot and clean, as advertised. The beds are also comfortable. The decor is cute. The kitchen is fairly well stocked. The location is very close to the beach, yet quiet. Now, the bad. The place is not very clean. When we turned the ceiling fans on, dust blew all over. The garden is kind of scruffy and not nearly as pretty as the pictures. Although we had great sunny weather, the place always seemed a bit dark, rather than nice and bright like the pictures. The second garage space is almost impossible to get into. The passage way from the back to the cottage is full of bikes and hard to get through. You cannot leave from the front at all because you cannot lock it from the outside so you have to go out the back. All of these unadvertised details made the nightly price seem pretty high. I found the owner and her manager not very responsive to questions and not very nice to deal with. For example, I had to inquire three times to get an answer about the return of my security deposit. Once they had my deposit, questions I sent by email went unanswered for days. I was not aware of the 11 am check out time, which was my fault, and when I was told we rushed back and checked out about 45 minutes late and was charged a high late check out fee. All in all probably my least pleasant VRBO experience out of many.

Relaxing Experience!!

We had the most enjoyable time at the Breeze's Cottage. Byrnadette and Virgina helped accomodate all of our needs. Reccomending restaurants and experiences daily. We needed the week to rest our bones and this Cottage did just that. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook. We ran out of Propane one evening and Virgina went above and beyond to get us propane so we can continue to grill. The hospitality was top shelf. Very close walk to the strand and to all of Venice Amenities. We will definitely stay here again if we're in the area. Thank you for letting us be guests at your cozy cottage. The Canadians!

Nice place

We spent two weeks in the breeze cottage with a 6 month old baby, coming from France, and we really appreciated our stay in Venice Beach. The cottage is well decorated and very comfortable, exactly similar as described on the web site which is appreciable when renting a condom abroad. The situation is excellent, just next to the beach and the Venice boardwalk and however very quite because the street around are walk street and street used by the residents only. There are two large bedrooms and a tub in the bathroom which is very convenient when traveling with a baby. And you have anything you need to cook in the kitchen. The garden is lovely and the jacuzzi very pleasant to use after a visit day. The owner was easily available by e mail before coming then at phone when we were at the cottage. We hope coming again.

Cool Breeze

We've rented a lot of homes through VRBO over the years, and none have been better than the Breeze Cottage. Clean, comfortable, perfectly located, and our host Bynadette more than accomodating. We arrived about 90 minutes earlier than scheduled just as housecleaning had finished. No problem-- Byrnadette just showed us in and let us enjoy. Hot tub was clean and hot (oddly, not always a guarantee in a vacation rental), and the cooking utensils were such high quality that we wished we had done some cooking! Problem was, with so many restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and deli's within walking distance, who wants to stay in and cook? Restaurant recommendation--C&O Trattoria on Washington: great service, great food, and the whole place (diners and staff) sang "That's Amore" together while all the wait staff ran from table to table toasting everyone. Amazing fun. And such was the recurring theme: EVERYONE was so ridiculously friendly. From the waiters at the high end restaurants to the dude making minmum wage at the Cow's End Cafe slinging our coffee and scones while treating us like he was the owner of the place and telling us how much he appreciated our business. Actually glad that we only stayed a few days. Any longer and we may not have ever left! Thanks, Byrnadette. We WILL be back.....

LOVED LOVED LOVED this rental. Byrnadette was beyond helpful and being a mother herself, knew exactly what we needed to make the stay more comfortable. A pack n play, clean linens, books, toys, etc. The bedrooms were beyond spacious and if there was ever an issue, the owner was on top of it immediately. Great space, jacuzzi was always hot and we even had a BBQ with friends who lived close by and were more comfortable at our rental than their own space.

Secret getaway in the heart of Venice

The Breeze Cottage provided a perfect girls getaway for Memorial Weekend. With a great location, just a block off the beach in Venice, it feels like you're a world away when you walk in the yard. You can't help but relax when you're surrounded by the tropical plantings, hot tub, and gazebo. And the bright interior of the cottage provides plenty of room for sleeping, lounging, cooking, everything. Highly recommend it!
