Stay at the Big Blue House

Great getaway for four sisters. Bedrooms were very spacious and in a beautiful neighborhood in Asbury Park. Kitchen was a bit dated but still had everything we needed. Would love to go back in the summer to see the gardens. Brad and Sean were great hosts.

A Perfect Getaway

We rented this house for the holidays and it could not have been more perfect! The house came with everything we needed and had plenty of space. It was cozy and warm. The location was perfect --walking distance from stores and restaurants. We already decided we want to come back next year if it is available!!

What a perfect house for a perfect vacation!

This house is absolutely beautiful. Immaculately clean and stunningly furnished and decorated. It is a long walk from the beach but they provide bikes so we rode every day to the beach, town of Asbury and Ocean Grove as well. There’s a lovely porch and backyard area with a fire pit that was awesome. A magical and memorable time for me and my family.

Great home, hosts and place to visit - will be back!

My two friends and I stayed at Sean and Brad's lovely home in Asbury Park for a reunion. The first floor of the house and the basement apartment combined to provide 3 comfortable bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, two of which were updated with state-of-the-art fixtures. The house was very spacious, nicely furnished and well supplied with everything a guest could need. We really felt like we were staying in someone's home and not a rental. There is a lovely porch and a backyard as well. Sean and Brad couldn't have been any more welcoming or nicer to us. Asbury Park and nearby Ocean Grove have great restaurants and we loved walking on the boardwalk. We had a wonderful time and hope to come back in the Fall.

Wonderful Property! Great Communication from Hosts!

My friend and I were looking for a quiet retreat with some fun options nearby and this was exactly what we needed. This home was cozy and well-organized so everything was easy to find. We loved the gas fireplace on the main level, and were impressed with the selection of streaming services available on the tv!

A great, short stay!

We rented this house for a brief weekend and it was perfect for our needs! Each of us had our own room and space for ourselves but the common area was spacious enough to share together! We loved it!

Wonderful family get-together near the beach

This house had everything my siblings and I needed to enjoy a long weekend near the beach. We loved riding the bikes to the beach, usually with one person driving to bring the beach chairs and umbrellas, also provided. The bathrooms have been recently modernized and are quite stunning. The kitchen and rest of the house is not renovated, so has a comfortable, lived-in feel. We appreciated the porch especially, which was a great place to hang out. The sofa bed in the Fireplace Room was reported to be unusually comfortable. All in all, good communication with owners and the perfect late summer experience we were hoping for.

Fantastic stay at a beautiful, immaculate, well stock house with very responsive hosts

The house is beautiful and included everything on the listing plus more. The location is reasonably close to the beach, and the house is beautifully furnished, roomy, and was spotlessly clean. All of my interactions with the hosts was very efficient and helpful. I stayed there with a female friend and our teenage boys and we all agreed that if we came back to Asbury Park, which we likely will, we would rent this house again. Highly recommend.

Family Fun at the Big Blue House

We stayed at the Big Blue House for three nights for a family beach vacation. My husband and I have a 4 year old and an 18 month old. The house was clean and conveniently located. We drove to the beach (parking at the beach was fairly cheap and widely available during the week), but walking would be possible. The renovated spaces in the home were beautiful, as was the outside of the house. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on the porch in the evenings, and our 4 year old loved the trampoline. The additional apartment is actually located in the basement, which didn't work for nighttime sleeping for out family. However, it would be great for a group with older children or just adults. Sean and Brad were friendly and helpful. It was a great stay and we would choose this property again!

Nice big house, with beautiful garden, but privacy was an issue.

We stayed here on a July 4th holiday with our toddler. It was much more space than we needed for 3 of us, and we really liked the house, and loved the garden. But at over $2,900.00 for 4 nights, after fees, it's extremely expensive, and privacy from the host was a real problem. Our only gripes were with privacy. When you rent the ground floor, you'll see that hanging out in the yard, at the dining table, you're probably less than 6 feet from the next door neighbors' porch. So it can feel like they're on top of you, when they're using their yard, though our interactions with them were all friendly. However, you also have the upstairs apartment, with its large outdoor deck that overlooks the garden. This means if anyone is renting the upstairs space, they'll pretty much be looking down at you as they hang out in their space. This was not a huge deal, but it did make us feel like we were being watched. This was especially true when we realized that the hosts were staying upstairs from us. Not that we NEEDED privacy for anything in particular, but it's obviously uncomfortable to have anyone, but especially the hosts "watching" you hang out. But the biggest issue with privacy came when we were checking out. There was 10am check out, so we asked the hosts for a late checkout, and they replied that they couldn't because they had another group checking that day. That's understandable, but the morning we were checking out and cleaning up after ourselves, we realized by 9:40 am that the host had already entered the basement of the apartment which we had paid for, and had begun cleaning that room while we were still there. This would be completely unacceptable at any price, but when you're paying over $725 per day, you'd think they could respect guests personal space, and could afford to pay for help cleaning if they need more time so badly. The house also shows its age a bit, and the kitchen feels like it hasn't been updated since the 70's, but otherwise everything works, so it was never an issue. The bathrooms were redone, and we really loved the design of the one near the kitchen. The house is also very spacious, and we never felt lacking from linens, to bikes and cookware, and we enjoyed spreading out. We spent most time in the garden, with its beautiful landscape. It's great for grilling, eating at the outdoor table, jumping on the trampoline, catching some sun in the open spaces, or enjoying the shady spots, and taking outdoor showers.

Lovely stay in Asbury

My family and I stayed here for a wedding this past weekend and it was all that we could have hoped for. We were able to all have our own space and the porch was a great place to sit and read. The outdoor area provides good privacy and is exceptionally lush and well-maintained garden. We would definitely recommend the Big Blue House!

Highly recommend the big blue house

My family rented the top floors for the week and added the bottom floors toward the end of our trip for more family to join us. My sister lives in Asbury Park and this was a great place to gather the whole family. The house was very comfortable and had plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. We gathered every morning and evening on the back and front porches and in the yard. One person drove to the beach with the stuff daily and the others biked. The bikes were great. Not a bad walk to everything. Would highly recommend. Hosts were great.

Lovely city worth vacationing to for a reasonable price

Great property, great location, great time

I stayed here in early August with my wife, brother, and parents. The 5 of us had plenty of space in the clean, well-appointwd bottom floor of the house. The property owners were very helpful and easy to communicate with. The house is close to the beach though you should expect to drive if you plan on taking a days'worth of gear. Only knock against the house would be that the pull out couch in the alcove bedroom was not very comfortable - I would recommend bringing an airbed especially if that room will be used by more than one person. Everything else in the house was great and fit our needs very well. Would stay here again and recommend to others.

Perfect spot

We loved everything about our stay! The house is so charming and comfortable, has all the amenities one may need and is close enough to everything. I liked that it wasn't directly on the beach and was in a beautiful neighborhood. The yard was so inviting and great to hang out in. Owners were very receptive to our needs. Can't recommend enough!

I'm an actor and my husband is a television producer. We work in Manhattan, where our daughter is in college. Our weekends are spent in Asbury Park, New Jersey, the "little city by the sea", voted one of the 14 best beaches in the world by Time (2018). We have watched this city spring back to life since 2001, through the efforts of local government, business and homeowners, most of whom arrived in an LGBT wave in the early 2000s. Together we pioneered the renaissance of this unique resort town just 55 miles from NYC. This listing is for the large main floor of our Big Blue House, which was built in 1900.

Why they chose this property

Asbury Park - We left Manhattan for a day of house hunting at 7 am on the morning of 9/11/2001. Arriving at Asbury Park station we learned that the first airplane had hit the World Trade Center. Shocked and unable to return to the city we decided to press on and kept our appointments. We found ourselves bonding with strangers gracious enough to welcome us into their homes and share the terrible awe of that day. The last house we saw that day is the one we decided to make ours. Over the past two decades we have watched this formerly depressed and blighted city spring back to life to become named The Coolest Small Town in America (2017). In tandem with the efforts of federal, state and local government, local businesses, local homeowners, most of whom, like us, arrived in a rainbow wave from NYC and Philadelphia. Together we've pioneered the reconstruction and redevelopment of this great and historic resort town to make it the success it is today welcoming one million visitors a year.

What makes this property unique

Voted the coolest small town in America 2017 and one of The 14 Best Beaches in the World 2018 (Time), Asbury Park New Jersey is an easy road trip from New York or Philadelphia. The revitalized Boardwalk offers great shopping, dining and views of one of the East Coast's most beautiful beaches. First developed in the 1880s as a resort town it boasts a plethora of spectacular Victorian homes. The beacon of the beachfront is the Beaux Arts style Convention Hall, which bestrides the Boardwalk at the northern end. Asbury Park launched Bruce Springsteen into the world, and has remained a music mecca with concerts in Convention Hall (capacity 4,000) The Paramount Theater (Capacity 2,000) and the legendary Stone Pony all year round. The boardwalk is punctuated with shopping pavilions, a water park, mini golf, Paradise - at the Empress Hotel - the largest gay nightclub in New Jersey, and unique shopping downtown on Cookman Ave. NJ transit trains leave hourly from NY Penn station and arrive in Asbury Park in less than two hours. From the station you're just a 5 minute walk along Cookman Ave to dipping your toes in the Atlantic Ocean.
