Fantastic weekend sparked by a great stay at Mount Hi!! Hosts are amazing…great communication, great location, great accommodations! I would recommend this place to anyone and will rebook myself.
The home is comfortable and has all sorts of amenities thoughout the cabin. We cooked almost every morning & evening. The kitchen is fully equipped + had ample supply of detergents. Favorites for our group included hanging out on the deck watching the colorful little birds & eating on the screened in porch. The location was convenient for hiking and chasing waterfalls in DuPont State Park. We’d go back !
Ideal location for a Dupont State Forest adventure, particularly for biking. Easy ride to Fawn Lake access area, not bad ride to Corn Mill Shoals. Well-stocked kitchen, beautiful deck, obviously well-loved house. Worked great for our family (2 adults, 2 college students and 1 middle schooler). Dick is an exceptionally friendly and helpful host.
Incredible place to stay in the Dupont/Pisgah area.
We loved everything about this place. It’s secluded enough to be nice and quiet but still very convenient to all the things you might need while on a trip. It was about a 3 minute drive to one of the main trailheads at Dupont, you can’t beat that. The home itself was super clean and very well equipped. The host was extremely responsive and very nice to deal with. I highly recommend this place.
This was a perfect location in the mountains. The cabin was extremely comfortable. Very quiet and secluded. The location was perfect for mountain, hiking exploring, biking, and everything that Dupont Forest has to offer Brevard and Hendersonville were short drive away, where there were wonderful, breweries and restaurants and shops to explore.
The location of Mountain Hi! is ideal for hikers! The home is comfortable and well-equipped for relaxing after a long day of exploring. Dick is a wonderful host. We hope to return soon to this gem!
This property was an ideal location for my bridesmaids and I to get ready for my sunrise wedding at the Pretty Place Chapel! Staying in this cabin felt like stepping back in time, in a good way! The cherry on top is that the Pfaltzgraff dishes in this cabin were the exact dishes that my grandmother had! I truly believe that it was her way of telling me that she was there with me on my wedding day!! I cried when I saw them! It has everything you need for a comfortable stay! My husband and I also spent our wedding night here and he adored this mountain cabin! The host was very easy to communicate with and he was so helpful with suggestions regarding the area! Great little mountain hide away!
We enjoyed our stay in Mt. Hi very much. It was very clean and comfortable. The house was a little hot but cooled down in the evenings. It was very close to several waterfalls and activities to keep us busy. Overall it was a great place and we throughly enjoyed ourselves!

Motorcycle riders beware
Difficult for motorcycle riders to navigate the steep drive, There we’re no clear photos of the driveway and parking area
Our family loved this cabin. It reminded us of cabins in Wisconsin mixed with a little Lake Tahoe vibe. The owner has stocked the place with everything you may need. We hung out on the porches morning, noon, and night.
We also appreciated the central location. We were 2 miles from amazing running/hike trails, 10 miles to Brevard, 30 to Hendersonville, and 2 minutes to ‘downtown’ Cedar Mountain.
Dick is a wonderful host! He answered all our questions timely and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay!
Really great stay! Cozy and family friendly location that provides a nice remote getaway from the usual vacation locations. Perfectly positioned to a whole bunch of nature. Property owner was very accommodating and answered all my questions in an extremely timely matter. Would certainly recommend.
We really enjoyed our stay in the mountains. The house is cozy and comfortable. Plenty of space and a well equipped kitchen. Owner was very quick to answer any questions we had.
My stay at Cedarl Mountain in MT HI Cabin owned by Dick Childs was amazing. It was everything I hoped it would be. The time spent there with my family will be one of my fondest memory for the rest of my life!! My Grandkids just loved the birds, the view of the Mountain, and Mother Nature. The Cabin had everything we needed plus some!!!
Awesome place to stay for a great mountain bike trip
As a group of guys looking for a nice place to stay to go mountain biking, this was it. The house is extremely well stocked, very comfortable and thoughtout. It is clear that a lot of thought went to creating a inviting a great experience. Thanks for a wonderful time!
We loved Mtn Hi and Cedar Mountain. The house was super well-stocked and maintained, with a fully outfitted kitchen, more than enough linens, and any other basic need you could think of. We really enjoyed the deck with hammock and bird feeders. Respect for the copious reference materials provided! We loved the basket of maps, although we only stayed long enough to use the DuPont State Forest map. If we were there for longer, we would definitely make use of the puzzles and games, as well as the selection of books. Beds were comfy, and the house was warm and cozy. Dick Childs was helpful and quickly available when needed. We liked Tin Roof Pizza and the Cedar Mtn Canteen. We would return!
I fell in love with this property as soon as we walked in. It is spacious, cozy and is extremely welcoming. I loved reading through the books while sitting on the balcony. The host even provides soaps, lotions, and bandages. :)
This property also has a slight touch of nostalgia, from the am/fm 8 track, the weather radio, and the stories of old Appalachia.
The location is great, it is secluded, but not far from great local restaurants and beautiful sights.
I can't wait to go back.
We had a wonderful time at Mt. Hi! Private setting, VERY thoroughly equipped kitchen, well-stocked pantry (if you're missing a seasoning or condiment, you'll probably find it in the refrigerator or cabinet), comfortable furniture, games and puzzles galore, nice deck and eat-in screened porch. Loved watching the birds with multiple bird feeders. Close to Brevard, spectacular waterfalls, lots of restaurants. TVs could use updating, but we hardly needed them with so much to do. Thanks, Dick Childs, for being a great host! Wish we could have stayed longer!
This cabin is so cute and very accessible to hiking, local restaurants, and Brevard. Cedar Mountain is such a nice little community. Everything you need is a few minutes down the road and then Brevard is only a 15 minute drive. The Cafe down the street is delicious, the Cantina has music and a wide selection of local brews. If you’re a birder, this is the place to be. Dick provides an abundance of seed, hummingbird food, suets and the birds COME. It was so nice to sit out and watch the birds with our morning coffee. DuPont is only 5-10 minutes from the cabin, depending on what trails you’re doing. Pisgah is 15-20 minutes away, but honestly DuPont is super cool and has a ton of different falls hikes, mountain biking trails, a great horse trail ride (Rusty Spur!). Dick is a great host. Very responsive, gives excellent recommendations before you even get there, provides trail and field guides for all of the local areas. I cannot say enough good things. We will be coming back to this cabin as soon as we can. Thank you, Dick!!
