The Ohana house is a charming 5 bedroom, located within 5 minutes walking distance from Hanalei Bay beach and the conveniences of the Hanalei town center and the Hanalei town farmer's market. Exquisite views of the spectacular mountains and waterfalls provide the backdrop for this tropical paradise. Bicycles & boogie boards are provided so you can fully enjoy beach town living.

Ha Ha is an ideal house for large, extended families or groups. Sleeping up to 12 people, the home is the ultimate beach shack - not fancy but comfortable and casual and perfectly located near the beach and town. We are offering up the home at some of the most affordable prices in Hanalei so that others can experience island living in one of the most amazing places in Hawaii.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a new electric range & everything you might need for great family dinners.

A screened lanai (porch) wraps around two sides of the house, providing places to dine, lounge, play games and take in the panoramic views. There are extensive amenities including barbecue, a ping pong table, pool table, boogie boards, and beach chairs and umbrellas,& children's sand toys There is also a hot tub available for use.

The property has an herb garden, and fruit trees (lemons, limes and bananas) that are a real treat when in season.

The Ohana house is a single-family home which will accommodate up to 12 guests. Ten is ideal though.

Ohana is the Hawaiian word for "family". At The Ohana House you will breathe the clear tropical air and delight in the pleasures offered by a wonderful home, so close to beach, surf, mountains and town.

Family Vacation

We were a group of 11 people consisting of 6 adults and 5 kids. The location was just a short walk to beautiful Hanalei Bay which we all thoroughly enjoyed daily. The house was roomy and I’ve truly never stayed in a VRBO that came close to being so well stocked. You really had everything you needed. We enjoyed the game room, boogie boards, chairs and umbrellas, and the washers and dryers were so handy to have. Communication and check-in were great. Highly recommend!

Perfect home for two families

The house was perfect for our two families! Loved the views of the mountains and the location was a block from beach access. Hanalei stole our hearts staying here! Owners communication was top notch and the house had everything we needed and then some! Hope to come back again!

Perfect Hawaiian vacation

House is in a perfect location to walk to the beach, to shopping and some of the best restaurants on the island. The beach chairs, umbrellas, beach towels were used daily & greatly appreciated. The kids enjoyed using the outdoor shower. Again, can’t beat location.

Great family house

We are grandparents, daughter and son in law, snd grandson and friend….ages 15-82 House worked well for all of us Comfortable, casual, We enjoyed the happy daytime sounds of children playing at next door preschool and an occasional rooster…. Otherwise very quiet here Beach only a short walk away Daily coffee in town also a short walk Lots of handy beach stuff to use Comfortable beds

Perfect Beach Cottage

We stayed 6 nights with another family. We had 12 people total. 8 kids (10-3 ages) and 4 adults. It was the perfect place! We had more than enough room for everyone. All beach toys supplied. Less than 100 yards to beach. It was an actual dream! Will stay here again and again for years to come.

Perfect Kauai retreat

I'm so happy I chose this home for our family vacation-it was perfect! We had considered another home in Princeville, but this was more our style. Laid back, comfy, steps from the beach, close to town and ample space for us to spread out or come together. We had a fabulous time. Susan has everything you need for a great Hawaiian vacation-snorkel gear, beach towels, coolers, sand toys, bikes. Don't think twice-this place is perfect.

Amazing Place

Great spot - perfect location in Hanalei. Pleasantly surprised by how nice the hot tub was after a surf / beach outing. Great to be able to walk or bike everywhere. The big-tire sand bikes were a major hit. Everything was perfect. LOVED the fact that there were no check-out instructions at all. Overall, amazing stay. Thank you so much!

Everything you need!

We brought our family of 9. The property was stocked with everything we needed, including bikes, surf board and boogie boards . The outdoor shower was great to clean up after the beach. The location is excellent to walk or bike to the beaches or shopping. Thanks

Delighted by everything :)

Everything about this home delighted me :). Really nice without being too fancy. Cozy location, and spaces for everyone. Owner communicative and accommodating. Comfortable beds, two washers and dryers, sand toys, bikes, hot tub, a large dining table. Each room has a little balcony area. Beautiful Hanalei Bay’s Pine Trees beach a short walk away. Also, a short walk to shave ice and gift shops. Basketball across the street (we brought our own ball). Loved the soft rains and lovely temperatures of March. It would be a dream to come back again! Mahalo, Hale HaHa🌺🏝️❤️!

90% Fantastic

Lots of perfect things but we were troubled by two things: one mattress was a very thick but very soft/old foam type and we ended up putting a child in it alone and the property shared a fence with a very active preschool making mornings during the week like living in a slasher movie with the very loud screaming. We would rent again. 90% awesome.

Wonderful Experience

Lovely, clean home with top-notch amenities and convenient location to beach, Hanalei and the North Shore. Most beds are memory foam and extremely comfortable. With the windows open and fans on high you'll have a refreshing night's sleep and might even drown out the early morning rooster calls. Everything in the house felt like good-quality products from the appliances to the structure itself. Susan does not fill this house with cheap "stuff" for tourist use. It is stocked with everything you need from sunscreen and laundry detergent to boogie boards and life jackets. The hot tub is worth the extra money in the winter. Susan was an excellent host and was accommodating and understanding with all our needs and requests. She was always quick to communicate before and during the trip. I would highly recommend this house for large families looking for comfortable accommodation where you feel like you're at home away from home.

"Home Away From Home"

Within minutes of our arrival, 4 generations of family members felt welcome, relaxed and excited for a most precious week together. The home offers plenty of space for everyone to spend time doing what they enjoy. Being so centrally located, our activities included daily surfing and biking, paddle boarding, helicopter tours, beachcombing, lounging, reading, football playoff games, cocktails, great mealtimes, scrabble and card games, shopping, ping pong, local farmer's market days, and worship service at the historic and beautiful Wai oli Hui ia Church, just one short block from home. Hanalei is a friendly little town with all the necessary conveniences, plus a familiar chorus of roosters to remind us that this is a lush agricultural paradise. Our stay at Hale Ha Ha was collectively comfortable and very well-provisioned. Largely because of the homestead, we felt transformed from island visitors to delighted part of the scenery. Particular thanks to Susan for her attentive and professional care over our needs,..... from ages one to eighty-five, we would have eagerly spent another week. Mahalo.

Winter in Hanalei

There are many things to like about this property: location, floor plan for a large group, hot tub, water toys and bikes to use, views. Beds were outstanding! However there were several repairs that needed to be addressed immediately: broken faucet in hall bath, inability to open one of the main bedroom doors from inside (was told it required major overhaul of door frame and lock), no knobs on kitchen cabinets leaving screws sticking out), one kitchen, cabinet door falling off, soap dispenser in DW didn’t release soap. It just seemed to have an unusual amount of delayed maintenance, perhaps because it had just been sold. Property manager easy to work with and several things repaired while we were there. No offer of a rebate. Could not use downstairs much because of recent flood but no additional cleaning took place. Outside could use a good straightening up and cleaning. Great for large group of various ages since there were several living areas. Kitchen pretty small but useable.

Outdated, not well maintained, pests, close to town & beach

This is an older style Hawaii beach-style house that is outdated, not well maintained, and looks far better in photos than in person, and we found a live adult rat in the kitchen plus other pests like termites and cockroaches in the house. What we liked was the proximity to town and the beach, welcoming atmosphere of the area and the property owner, our travels in the area, great local food, and seeing many rainbows. Although we stayed in houses of similar style and vintage in Kauai and had excellent experiences, this was not one of those experiences. We are no strangers to minor pests when we travel. However, I was shocked to see an adult rat scurry from behind the refrigerator across the kitchen floor under the dishwasher while sitting at the counter drinking coffee. In addition, on a daily basis there were several small piles of debris from termites in multiple locations, plus cockroaches in the ground floor rec room. There are some torn screens, some missing slats from glass windows, foliage growing close to the house; all examples of poor maintenance and easy access for a rat. Dealing with the owner, or rather his mother, was not a great experience. According to my brother-in-law who was at the house when she arrived, she seemed to imply the rat only got into the house because someone must have left a screen door open, which is flat out not true. Even the exterminator that was with her said trees touching the house enable rats. Rating 3 out of 5 feels generous.

Good and bad

Good: very easy and close walk to the beach and to the downtown area Great communication with the property manager and housekeeper who were both quick to resolve issues with nonexistent high chair and a pac and play in poor condition and problems with the tv. Beautiful views of mountains Bad: the house is old. The furniture is very old and in poor condition, although the beds were fairly comfy. The kitchen is a nightmare. I had read all reviews prior to renting this house and all were very positive, so I was shocked when we arrived to see the house wasn’t at all what I had expected. The housekeeper (who is absolutely darling and a BIG help) indicated the house is one of the very few in Hanalei with more than 3 bedrooms and this is a big sell overall, and it is true that there was lots of space. I feel a bit like a rat complaining, but I want to be honest since I rely on reviews when I look at renting a property. I also understand how it goes renting a beach property as my husband and I had a beach rental home in South Carolina a few years ago. Salty air is hard on houses and some renters are more gentle than others. This house needs a major overhaul, which I understand might be in the works as the house was sold last December. Not sure where one would start as so much needs to be done, but the property definitely has potential and clearly has been much loved over the years. I’m hoping this review is honest without being unduly negative which was not my intent.
