The gem of Old Dam Cottage
Old Dam cottage is spacious property with great character in a stunning location, in addition to its own large rustic garden. The area (Stone House/Dent) is like an undiscovered gem of the Yorkshire Dales, away from the bustle of the better known areas but perfectly placed to access the hills, particularly the three peaks of Ingleborough, Pen-Y-Ghent, and Whernside. We loved it.

Stunning Location
We had a beautiful week here. The location is so beautiful and we were very lucky with the weather too, so were able to enjoy the garden and the nearby walks. Sitting outside, all you can hear is the gentle babble of the stream beside the house and the sheep in the surrounding fields. The cottage is very comfortable with plenty of room and has everything you need. The kitchen was very well equipped; sofas and beds all comfy and a lovely welcome basket full of local treats. We stayed fairly local and visited Dent, Sedburgh, Ribblehead Viaduct, Bowness-on-Windermere, Malham Cove and Hawes. There are loads of lovely walks in the area including one that starts from the house. We can also recommend the fish and chip van that comes on a Friday just around the corner from the Sun Inn in Dent - opposite the car park. We really had a great stay and would probably come back again.

Gorgeous Yorkshire Dales
Lovely cottage in an idyllic location (photos cannot do it justice) with walks from the gate. Recommend catching a train from Dent station (5 mins drive with free car park) to Settle or Skipton for a fun day out and a chance to cross the viaduct you wake up to every morning. Well specced and looked after property. Highly recommended.

Stunning Location and Gorgeous Garden
Unfortunately my husband slipped and fell on our first day and ended up in Westmoreland Hospital with a bruised and sprained ankle so he ended up having to stay in the cottage most of the week resting - he caught up on his reading and managed to relax. The cottage looked beautiful nestled in the gorgeous garden when we approached it in this stunning part of Dentdale. We had to go and ask a neighbour if we could use their wifi as the instructions were on our account and we had no internet connection when we got there, so was unable to access it - please remind other holidaymakers to make a note of the key safe number - It would have been better if we had received an e.mail with it on and then we could have referred to the e.mail easily. The cottage was roomy and had a lovely quirky layout - we loved sitting in the extension at the back which let in lots of light. However the inside of the house was looking a little tired and needed a good spring clean. Perhaps the owner Peter, needs to invest in proper midge repellent equipment so that holidaymakers can make the best use of the outside during the Summer months. Overall I would give it 4 out of 5 because it was in a most beautiful part of the Dales. It just now needs a little more love inside particularly in the kitchen to bring it up to date.

A lovely, spacious relaxing cottage.
The cottage is nestled in a quiet valley, in a beautiful location. It is spacious and well equipped. The downstairs is really great, with an excellent kitchen/breakfast room, comfortable lounge and a wonderful sun room, with great views. Upstairs, the 3 bedrooms were very comfortable. We walked to the local pub (The Sportsman’s Arms) on our first evening, which was fun. We spent some time visiting Kendal, Hawes and Sedbergh and also ventured into the Lake District for a day. All in all, a great few days away in a really lovely cottage.

Wonderful stay, great farmhouse property in a fantastic location
A delightful rural farmhouse in a great location for a quiet getaway located just near Whernside. Great location for exploring the Dales and the Lakes. The property has all the charm of an old style farm house, amazing big kitchen with Aga and big central table and yet modernised with the fantastic summer room. We visited with our disabled daughter who enjoys the stress free quiet countryside and she loved the flow of the property, wandering in and out of the kitchen and through the doors of the summer room into the outdoor area where the fantastic beck flows by. The views outside are stunning especially up the valley to the viaduct, spotting the Settle- Carlisle trains became a fun game and we loved the local rabbit family visiting the garden each day. The property has a couple of nearby cottages and farms but in no way are they obtrusive at all and we found the locals extremely friendly just when we saw them. Our stay was comfortable and very enjoyable and the house has everything you might need for a holiday stay. We have had several holiday home stays around Yorkshire, the Lakes and Scotland and this one was certainly one of the best. Very recommended if you are looking for a great house in a quiet rural location away from it all.

Old dam experience
Excellent holiday home. Particularly impressed that everything advertised actually worked. Only two obsevations, the fire needs a guard and the steps from the kitchen and office need some anti slip material. The gardens were safe and tidy, the dog and i flopped every day in the sun and it was so peaceful i nearly fell asleep.
