Lovely cottage and garden. We were able to totally relax in this hidden spot tucked away in the forest ! Totally loved the Silky hens and their companions the game hens. I highly recommend this cottage to for a relaxing get away
This is a serene property with lovely outdoor sitting area. This cottage is surrounded by views of redwoods and doug fir trees. It's a very short drive to Mendocino village, and Big River. Inside, the cottage has just about everything you could need. The bed is comfortable. The cottage is well equipped and also well decorated. We've stayed here several times and have enjoyed each visit.
The cottage is very comfortable and Margie is a great host. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking meals. The location is very quiet and just a short drive into the town of Mendocino. The fireplace makes it especially cozy.
Margie provided enough food for a breakfast so we didn't have to shop when we arrived. She was very responsive, communicated everything we needed, and didn't bother us while we were there.
We've stayed here several times and look forward to going back!
My daughter and I enjoyed this lovely cottage in the redwoods. I really appreciated the rambling gardens and it was so sweet to walk out and say good morning to the chickens. We had a fire one night and it was just so cozy and comfortable. Great place for a mother daughter getaway or a couple. Beautiful area with plenty of hiking and restaurants.
You have to stay here to fully appreciate this amazing cottage immersed in the magnificence of the redwoods because words, alone, will not do it justice. The little house is inviting, clean and comfortable and Margie welcomed us with fresh eggs and warm hospitality It is completely private so walking in the backyard felt like strolling through your personal forest. We kept looking up in a 360 manner because the mature redwoods are all around, including one that is 200 or 300 years old! The chickens move about in a quiet, isolationistic manner, so, you must look hard to find them. It was fun to watch them from time to time. We stayed 3 nights during which we prepared all 3 breakfasts and 2 dinners here (all cooking and dining needs were in the cottage) with food from Harvest Market in Mendocino. The last night we ordered take-out from Patterson’s Pub, which is next door to Harvest Market, and had an amazing burger “at home”. Mendocino is less than 10 minutes away (6 minutes per Google), so the stores and restaurants are incredibly convenient. And the west side of Mendocino becomes Mendocino Headlands State Park. This oceanside preserve has magnificent overlooks from its winding trails, complete with crashing waves against rock formations, one of which featured a snoozing seal. Speaking of parks, there are a number of them along with coastal access points and a lighthouse, all short drives away. We can’t wait to return.
We loved our stay at the cozy cottage and the beautiful gardens. The cottage had everything we needed and a comfy bed. Thank you Margie for sharing your cottage with us and for the beautiful flower arrangements.
A charming cottage in a sublimely quiet setting with everything you need for a cozy weekend - or longer stay. This cottage offers a comfortable queen-sized bed with extra pillows, a well-equipped kitchen, a spacious bathroom with a washer/dryer, and even a fireplace (although we did not use it). Furnishings and decor are lovely, and the cottage is well-maintained and very clean. We really appreciated it’s location off the main highway - very quiet and peaceful, set in a beautiful garden. A perfectly relaxing yet convenient place to stay. Highly recommended!
We’ve visited multiple times over 35 years. In the beginning, there were two cottages (Pine and Cedar) then was converted into a 2 room cottage. It continues to have so much charm and now has the added benefit of a kitchen. We love it here and it’s always hard to leave. The cozy fireplace, reading nooks, gardens, chickens, surrounded by giant redwood trees. It is a gem that is hidden and tucked away, yet just minutes from downtown and the coastline. The host Margie is super hospitable and we look forward to our next visit!
We had a good time at margies cottage. Loved the presence of the chickens. We got lost at first and went to another property. Margie guided us over the phone. The cootage is in a nice hiddden pl
This cottage was the perfect getaway. We love the location, the fire place was great along with the gardens and free ranging chickens & fresh eggs! We will definitely be coming back for another visit.
We can't say enough about this place! Gardens (flowers, herbs, etc.) surround this cozy, romantic cottage against a backdrop of redwoods, cedar and dense forest. The property - set back on a long driveway from the road - is super quiet and through a skylight we could watch the moon drift across the trees from the bed at night. Chickens come out of the coop and roam the little picket-fenced yard as we sip morning coffee amongst the fragrance and color of the flowers in the garden. Less than 2 miles off Hwy one and adjacent to Mendocino, it's very convenient access to the state parks, events and everything in the area. The host is great. She has been doing this a long time and has thought of everything you'd need for a comfortable stay; we never said "I wish they had a .... in here." Everything was at our fingertips. If you're a couple looking for a romantic place to unwind, this is it. (Don't worry, the WiFi works just fine too:) If you have a small child, they will love the chickens, and the fenced in yard is a perfect area. It's sooo much better than the expensive hotels in the area in our opinion. If we could add another star to the rating, we would!
Surrounded by redwood forest, quiet, rustic, comfortable and so beautiful. Magnificent flower gardens all around the cottage, chickens…. Out host was very responsive, and we had lots of privacy and peace. Fresh eggs in the fridge. Lots of thoughtful little touches. Everything you need. We will definitely return.
We were down for business and a little bit of a vacation. The cottage was clean and had great Wi-Fi. A lot of nice little extras like the bananas and the peaches and the blueberry muffins! Margie was very friendly and very attentive. Definitely a great little cottage in the woods And a very short easy drive into Mendocino 👍
This was our second time staying at the cottage. It's a quiet, cozy retreat in the forest and it's just a few minutes away from downtown Mendocino.
Our host was very responsive to all our requests and provided breakfast items on our arrival.
We look forward to coming back!
This charming cottage is a hidden gem. The beautiful garden and inviting interior create the perfect haven for relaxation and rejuvenation. Margie exudes warmth and hospitality which made our experience even more special.
This Little Cottage definitely surpassed our expectations. We had lovely fires in the fireplace, cooked fun meals in the kitchen- including scones one morning with scrambled eggs from the resident hens. The Cottage is surrounded by several secret gardens, full of flowers in bloom. This is a magical place to rest and relax in.
This is a beautiful, quiet, private location, a cozy and comfortable cottage set in a lovely garden, with thoughtful amenities and surprises. The host was attentive and available. We were very happy there!
Everything about the Cottage in the Redwoods is indeed enchanted! Margie has thought of everything to make for a perfect stay -- a fire prepped and ready to go in the fireplace, a few provisions stocked in the fridge, clear instructions and/or unobtrusive signs when/where needed, extra linens .... Margie's thoughtfulness is apparent at every turn. And the setting is stunning: redwoods-lined roads, heritage chickens roaming the garden, a breathtaking night sky. As for many others who have stayed at this sweet spot, my partner and I were already plotting our return before we left the cottage!

After raising my children here on the family property I ran our bed and breakfast in the house and barn for over 35 years. Along the way, I met some wonderful people some of who came back every year. We even had Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell and their son Wyat stay for six weeks while filming the movie Overboard. Nice people. My gardens are important to me and give me much pleasure as do my chickens who give me lots of eggs. I am celebrating living in Mendocino for the past 50 years having moved here in 1971. It's not always been easy but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else and I'm lucky to have my family and friends close by. I'm a happy, lucky person.
