This cabin is nestled in the woods in the mountains near Estes Park. A nice place to get away from life! Crisp mornings followed by beautiful days. We woke up one morning to the sound of a bull elk bugling and finished that day with elk watching us through the window! We would highly recommend this cabin for someone wanting to experience the mountains with some of the luxuries yet getting away from being totally pampered.
Wonderful little cabin that's secluded from neighbors. Stayed with my family & 2 dogs. Enjoyed sitting on the porch. Cabin is close to town. Only negative was the path leading to cabin - my subaru legacy sits close to the ground and the path was a little washed out from rain. Would recommend an off road type vehicle to anyone looking to visit.
Charming log cabin well-stocked with small decorative objects
This is a vintage log cabin that the owners have expanded over the years. Clearly this has been a labor of love. A small stream borders the cabin, and there are several areas for outdoor meals. My favorite spot on a hot day is the veranda.
This cabin felt like home from the moment we walked in! It was a little more "in the woods" than we thought, but my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the calm quiet, especially at night. City slickers beware, there are insects and critters around, and I didn't have any cell signal (the hosts do have wifi at the cabin, though!). We both brought our dogs and we all enjoyed slow mornings on the front porch soaking up some sun and drinking coffee, and saved some money on eating out by using the cookware and utensils provided in the kitchen. Denise replied quickly whenever I had a question for her, gave easy to follow directions to the cabin, and even suggestions for local food, hikes, and attractions. The property is not fenced in, so if you're bringing your canine companions, be sure you have a long leash and/or a tie out cable.
5/5, we will definitely look into staying here again next year!
Overall the cabin was really nice. The stone and rock steps leading up to the cabin could be better. My husband has an injured knee and it made it difficult going up and down the stone and rock path. We absolutely loved the deck and the beautiful humming birds. We enjoyed them very much. The log cabin setting was perfect and the inside was charming and very comfortable. We had a great time and would stay there again.
For Aug in the mountains - Not too cold, not too hot - just right.
For a family of 4 - Not too small, not too big - just right.
For an Estes Park vacation/ RMNP hiking - Not too far, not too near - just right.
For those seeking solitude, a true getaway, a staycation, adirondack chairs and hammocks next to a brook - not too accessible, not too remote - just right.
Authentic wood cabin, tastefully maintained and furnished, very accessible, lovely hosts. Hope it stays this way so we can come back and stay again someday.
Amazing cabin, beautiful property, can’t wait to go back!
We had a wonderful time at this cabin. We had everything we needed and then some. We had excellent communication with the owner who was so friendly and welcoming. We saw lots of wildlife, had some great hikes right from the property and were truly sad when our vacation was over. Can’t wait to go back!
My husband & I had a great time at this property w/ our teenage granddaughters and 2 labradors. The cabin was perfect and had just about every possible touch you can think of. Way better than I even expected it to be. We loved the outdoor lighting and the tables for playing cards, and the adirondack chairs and hammocks by a little peaceful creek. The beds were comfortable, and there was plenty of extra bedding and linens, etc. We devoured the thoughtful goodies the owner left for us upon arrival. We played the games provided, including foosball (big hit!), and spent tons of time just wandering around the property and lounging outdoors. The hummingbirds kept us entertained all day long every day. We dined in every night and enjoyed the large comfy dining/living room. The family room was great for snuggling in the evenings to watch movies (internet is very spotty, so I strongly recommend you download some titles before arriving, so you can then "cast" to the tv). I would stay here again anytime happily. Thanks for a wonderful week!
Nice place, saw some wildlife, in a good, central location just North of Allenspark and Mt. Meeker. Fellow travellers should be aware that there are two bedrooms, and one is a fully open (not private) loft (the third "bed" is an air mattress) and that the owner asks you not to light the fireplaces. It got quite chilly on our third day there without permission to light a fire, and only a couple of small space heaters that kept throwing the electric circuit when we plugged them in.
We wanted a secluded mountain cabin and that’s exactly what we got! The cabin is authentic and has plenty of charm. My wife and I took our three children ages 7,4,and 2. They loved the creek next to the cabin and the hummingbirds. It was also nice being able to walk right into Rocky Mountain National Park. The owner of the cabin was very easy to work with and had extra items in the cabin if you forget something. I’m sure we will be back!
This was our second visit this summer! It truly felt like we were going home. When we are at the cabin, we are transported to a comfortable and peaceful slice of life.
The cabin was very clean and some new things were added - like the foosball table, Smore's fixings, and delightful touches waiting for us in the refrigerator.
The little creek had more water flowing in it this visit and our dog loved playing in it. We went into Estes Park a few times and enjoyed the convenience to the cabin.
If you are looking a cozy cabin feel, be sure to give this cabin a try. The photos look exactly like the cabin does inside and out. We are already talking about our 3rd trip and hope we can find a weekend as the weather gets colder.
We couldn't have asked for a better authentic cabin in the woods/mountains! This 1939 cabin has so much character but yet has all the essentials you would need to stay for awhile. It's secluded among the pine trees with views of Rocky Mountain National Park but perfectly located close to Estes Park! The owners were so nice and easy to get ahold of for anything. This will definitely be our go-to for future vacations to Estes Park!
This property was exactly what we were looking for. A great secluded getaway close to Estes park and Rocky Mountain national park. The host were so kind and wanted to give us a vacation that we will never forget.
We really enjoyed the peace and quiet at the cabin. The cabin was much larger than we thought with two large living rooms and modern furniture. The bed was very comfortable and there are lots of games to entertain in the evening. Make sure to take a few hikes as there are fantastic trails a short drive away. We did have a roommate in the form of a field mouse that we saw in the evening or early morning so make sure to put your food away and keep
The doors closed. Definitely a great spot if you are looking to be in the woods and want to experience nature. Highly recommended.
Secluded property with all the needed amenities. Great location for all we wanted to do. My whole family enjoyed our stay. The owner was communicative and responsive to our needs.
This secluded cabin ,yet it was still close to everything we needed ( 5-15 minutes ) , was fantastic for our family of 5 ! It also is well stocked with hand soaps / dish towels / bedding etc. Just pack your food in , and you’ll enjoy this clean home away from home. Denise ( owner ) and local hosts , Luke and Madelyn , are very responsive and continue to make sure you have everything you need. I wouldn’t hesitate one minute to come back to this place. We also enjoyed Meeker Stables ( 5 min away ) for a horseback ride and the Wild Basin trailheads are all within a few minutes. !! Thank you to the Staab family for entrusting us to stay in your “On the rocks “ home.
From the moment you go through the open wooden gates, you are transported into peace and serenity. The hosts were outstanding communicators. We were given detailed information about the home and expectations. We were pleasantly surprised that the home feels so remote yet is less than 15 minutes from Estes Park! Nice touches throughout the home including some goodies in the refrigerator from local businesses. Everything you need is there for a relaxing and nature filled getaway. We will be back!
Lovely authentic mountain cabin. Well furnished kitchen. Beautiful grounds.
No problems- good communication with owner.

About the host
Hosted by Denise Staab
Hello! We are the Staab family, Colorado transplants who love being up in the mountains, hiking, relaxing by the river or sitting by our wood burning stove while it snows outside. Our cabin is our refuge from the busy city - a place to come relax and just listen to the sounds of nature.
Why they chose this property
This property is perfectly located for lots of outdoor adventures. With the addition of our new large front porch, you might just want to sit outside and take in the fresh air and listen to the birds. Close to the cute town of Estes Park, but still very much out in the forest, this cabin is a wonderful place to spend a long weekend away from home!
What makes this property unique
We loved this property right away, not just because of its stellar location (though that certainly helped) but because of how cozy the interior was. It was a place we knew we would love to spend holidays and bring our granddaughter to enjoy nature. Plus being right on the border of the RMNP meant we could go for a beautiful hike right from our front door!
