Farm life right outside the door.
The accommodation is a converted barn. The entrance to the property is quite narrow, with clearance of probably two feet or slightly less either side of a compact car.....bear that in mind if your vehicle is a hefty SUV. That said, parking at the side of the narrow track outside the entrance is pretty safe, as it's 500 yards from the main road and feels pretty remote( and pitch black late at night ).
The property owners, the Bousteads, are really nice people and are always on hand, should any problem arise. They have a farm to run and you'll only see them if you need help. They never interrupted our privacy at all. Diane makes sure to call and replenish towels and bedding when needed.
Bedrooms and bathroom are downstairs, with open plan kitchen and living space upstairs. Sloping roof with open beams, which are low in parts, so watch your heads !
The beds were too soft for our liking and I feel that they could do with an upgrade. The fixtures and fittings were a bit hit and miss, with towel holders loose, and light switches that had to be flicked up, or down, to turn lights on. Hopefully these little concerns will be addressed before too long.
The location of the property is ideal if you want to visit the Lake District, with Kendal only 25 minutes away by car, the North Yorkshire Dales a similar trip away, and Edinburgh two and a half hours drive away.
The Coast to Coast path is only a ten or fifteen minutes walk from the property and the view from outside the front door across to the Howgill Fells is beautiful.
We had to cut our stay short, as we had to return to the United States, and Mrs. Boustead kindly offered to try and make it up if we are in the area again, which was a nice touch.
In closing, be aware that , although there is wi-fi at the property, there was no reception for phone calls. We had to walk out to the entrance, twenty yards away before we got even the slightest reception. We bought a cheap Sim-free phone for twelve pounds, and it seems that the network we picked up most successfully was EE.
