Nice quiet location. Clean and nice kitchen. Home could be better maintained.

The small town of Anstruther is quaint and had great coastal walking trails to Crail and Pittenweem. Love the barley fields and views to ocean in surrounding area. Easy drive to St. Andrews. Yummy fish and chips shop. The home could use some improvements. The door lock was broken, bedding, pillows and beds are old and uncomfortable. Clothes washer not usable and laundry room was dirty. Bathrooms and kitchen were nice and clean. Dining chairs were in need of repair. One collapsed when sat on. Nice backyard and small view from front yard of water.

Great family vacation home!

We had such a wonderful time in Scotland in our Castle Cliff home despite the rain. This quaint home is just twenty minutes (12km) from the St. Andrews golf course. Some of us golfed three days (in the wind and rain!) and the others sat cozy in the home. For eight of us in the house, we had lots of room. Kids had fun choosing their rooms (the railing on the top bunkbed needs fixing though so be careful). There were four toilets in the house so this facilitated getting ready in the mornings. It is five minutes walking distance from the cute wharf town and shops. Keep in mind most shops close at 5. The fisheries museum in town is open until 5:30, but the last tour starts at 4:30 so get there early. The delicious fish and chips in several locations in town are from freshly caught fish from their harbour! We were minutes from the Co-Op grocery store, too. The beds were very comfortable and the linens so soft. I loved having a washer and dryer on site. I was excited to try and hang clothes out (and clothes pins are provided) as we are not allowed to do this in the United States with covenant controlled neighborhoods, but the constant rain made this impossible. The owner was so hospitable, she even had a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers from the garden and a bottle of wine waiting for us upon our arrival! There were a few minor/cosmetic areas that could be improved such as us not getting the shower to work correctly in the front master bedroom (so perhaps instructions), refinishing the dining room table and perhaps repainting the foyer from finger prints (perhaps a pale yellow to remind us of the sun). We were only able to get the oven to work on convection, but the kitchen was very functional with a full fridge and freezer. The matching dining room plaid was so nice and the navy blue drapes and ornate ceiling in the front room were beautiful. There are lots of games to play for kids (we laughed at the risqué Greek playing cards), movies to watch and Xbox for kids-- though we didn't allow them to touch the video games. We met only the kindest and friendliest of people in town who were so very helpful in guiding us to very waterproof attire. I just liked sitting and listening to the lovely accents of the people. There is a historic and beautiful church right next door, Chinese that will deliver at 9:00PM at night, and many beautiful old houses to admire. We would for sure return here if we were to golf at St. Andrews again.
