Very basic property, tired and in need of investment. Overpriced for the quality of accommodation.
We’ve stayed in numerous properties in Staithes as we visit at least once a year. This property is one of the worst we’ve stayed in. For the good points; it had a great location, the master bedroom’s mattress is comfy and has a good open fire, however, there are multiple issues with the property.
The property is generally very tired. It needs some investment to make it a much more pleasant house to stay in. The kitchen and household utensils are old and showing a lot of wear and tear. For example, the dish rack and toilet brush are rusty. There’s mould in the bath and the floor has a sticky feel to it. The soft furnishings all look tired/dirty/stained. The pillows and mattresses did not have protectors on them (apart from one single bed mattress) which I don’t think is very hygienic for a holiday rental.
When we arrived the cottage was absolutely freezing as the storage heaters had been switched off. The cottage didn’t warm up until the next morning once they had a chance to “recharge” that night. The bathroom didn’t have any soap to wash hands and the kitchen didn’t have the basics of salt, pepper or cooking oil etc. I’m not expecting a welcome basket (which many properties in Stathes do provide) but stripping the house bare of essentials really makes the property feel very basic. The property wasn’t cheap, therefore I feel some investment to make this cottage feel welcoming to guests when charging what you are would be beneficial. We won’t be staying here again.
