About this property

Couples or Group Getaway

This magical home located in the Canadian Badlands on the Red Deer River boasts beautiful gardens, wrap-around country deck, fine heritage woodwork, hand-carved arches, alcoves, and antiques throughout. The home was custom built by the owner and said to be a work of art. Perfect for romantic getaways, a soft adventure weekend or dinosaur hunting in the badlands.

This home has drawn gasps and secret whispering about Harry Potter, Castles and fairies for nigh on twenty years. Come relax and enjoy the river view as you transport into a uniquely beautiful sanctuary.

The Enchanted River Cottage is the perfect getaway for small groups, families, couples, girl groups or private retreats.

The home is a 5 level split with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms in addition to a clinician room for onsite spa treatments and an atelier located in the upper turret.

Floor to ceiling picture windows showcase the multi-jetted jacuzzi tub and open bathroom concept in the Master bedroom. The Suite is a luxurious space to snuggle up in a cozy king sized bed while gazing out onto the backyard and river bend.

Both guest bedrooms offer a Queen bed. Closet space and antique dressers decorate the rooms with twin access to an outside balcony. The main bathroom is located down the hall and also features a jetted tub.

A third bathroom is located on the main floor near the entrance

Our clinician room is available for massage and spa treatments.

The kitchen is perfect for large party events with a double convection oven, two sinks, plenty of counter space, large hood fan and side bar seating.

The open concept dining room area is shared with the kitchen and provides plenty of space for standing room functions, presentations or dance parties!

The living room has an enchanted decor of antiques and hand carved furniture, all snuggled around a wood fireplace. Great for visiting or kicking back.

Downstairs is a comfortable TV/family room with a futon available for a 7th guest.

On the rare occasion that the house is overly warm there are fans in the ceiling or additional floor fans can be pulled out of the closet. There are screens on both Guest Bedroom doors for additional airflow and a ceiling fan and venting window in the Master suite.

Just off the kitchen is a 750 sqft multilevel patio with a bbq, seating and deck that wraps around the house. Great for day time gatherings, back yard parties or intimate lounging around.

The backyard gardens looking out to the Red Deer River are a gorgeous setting for family events, weddings, pictures and more.

The residence provides a large driveway and accommodates plenty of street parking with a large grassy lot across the street.

Unique house on the river

Unique space to use as home base to explore Drumheller. Enjoyed being on the river with a beautiful backyard garden with deer munching away at twilight.

Not the experience we hoped for

I have booked a lot of properties on vrbo's competitor sites but not much on vrbo. We booked this property for our daughter's wedding dinner and communicated to the host how many people etc..and we paid for 5 stay over guests and we had 16 confirmed authorized guests with 4 more that came later. I had to sign another contract and pay for day guests and the host came onto the property in the back when we were having dinner and took pictures of our dinner guests. I didn't know what was happening at the time but a conversation was happening with the host and my daughter and other guests in the front. The host was angry we had more day guests than agreed and I was suppose to drop what I was doing for my daughters wedding and report the additional guests and then was charged an extra $420 for the guests not on the paper/contract (another one separate from a vrbo contract) I signed...not sure the host has proof of who was authorized and who was not and there was no time in the contract that stated I had to notify by a specific time. I felt bullied and threatened by the host who ranted about insurance reporting and how vrbo wouldn't allow the number of guests I had. My daughter the bride was extremely upset at the unwarranted and stalking nature of the host. Needless to say the host made our wedding dinner memorable for the wrong reason. The property was beautiful but not worth how we were treated and we were told that my family likes drama etc...I have never been monitored, stalked by a host before and then have to pay for it. Vrbo doesn't make it easy to contact them to discuss the issues that come up either.

A Nice Retreat

Overall a lovely place to stay. Some fitted window screens to keep out the flies and window coverings for privacy would make it even better.

Beautiful home. I would say more geared to older kids and adults.

Easy to book. House was large and inviting. Great location. Very quiet. Bring your eye mask as most rooms didn’t have blinds or curtains. Beautiful view but So super early mornings with the sun.

Great experience.

Great place with River views and non-stop dear wandering into garden. No air conditioning. Killer on +30 days. Fun place to congregate. A big worn and dared but a nice experience. Beds need an upgrade. Kids sink to middle of one. Nice new barbecue.

Great Escape!

Had a great time exploring the uniqueness of this house. Beautiful view from the master bedroom, even laying in the jet tub! Great photo opportunity in every room, loved the different stairs cases. No curtains on any of the windows & Ice maker didn’t work. Norah was quick to answer any questions we had, all in all a peaceful relaxing place!

Lovely place

Stayed here for 4 nights. Very unique property with beautiful scenery from back deck. Owners were very friendly and easy to communicate with. House was clean and beds were comfortable. Lots of fun exploring house and drumheller. Overall a great place to stay. Some blinds in the master bedroom / bath would be nice for more privacy.

Where the deer and the antelope play.

Really unusual experience. In a good way. Peaceful. The home is as pictured. Kids loved it. On three separate occasions we found deer feeding in the yard. Cool Knick knacks throughout the house mesmerized the kids. Nora was terrific. A one of a kind. experience.

Drumheller Stay

Lovely house , it is exactly as depicted online. We had a marvelous time , however there was some stress with our young children( aged 4 & 2) because the decks did not have railing. Hosts were very friendly and helpful .

Fantasy property in a good location

The place is awesome. It's huge with unique/interesting touch all over the house. Kind of older fancy style with touch of modern. Almost like a small castle feeling to it. The place has a full kitchen with everything u might need. The master bedroom is beautiful. Large and have jetted tub. The view of the bedroom is gorgeous. Backyard is perfect for that summer hang out spot. Good overall and highly recommend.

Lovely place for a family getaway

This character home was a great place for us to bring our family for a short trip to Drumheller. Home was as described as shown in the ad and worked well for us and 5 kids between the age of 8 and 12. The home is very full of treasures to explore (rocks, fossils, Knick knacks, books and decor item), perhaps not appropriate for younger children, but wonderful for our kids to enjoy. Was near all amenities and attractions in the area. A couple small recommendations we will share with the homeowner, but overall a good rental experience which we were so happy to find in the area.

Beautiful cottage on the river

A quiet and friendly neighborhood with easy access to all the essentials (groceries, liquor store, gas station etc). The locationĀ is also very central to all the touristy spots so that was really convenient.Ā Received a warm welcome from Norah and she was really responsive with all the questions and concerns we had. The property itself felt like something out of a fairytaleĀ book withĀ Ā alotĀ characterĀ and quaintness to it.Ā The only drawbacks were, there was enough room for 6 adults to have proper sleeping space, the master bedroom has a king size bed worked well for a couple, second room has a queen size bed which was decent for the second coupleĀ however the bed itself was quite uncomfortable with a sinking mattress. The thirdĀ bedroom has a double bed that really wasn't ideal for 2 grownups so one person ended up on the coach without any spare blankets.Ā The backyardĀ is beautifulĀ and spacious however the deck is kind of falling apart with some structuralĀ construction still on the go, so that kind of took away from a backyard deck small gathering for a quiet 70th birthday occasion we had.Ā Having said all that, overall we had a great experience and would recommend the property given a few things to consider before booking.Ā

After running two boutique hotels and a full-service spa, my husband and I are delighted to be spending much of our semi-retirement between our home in Drumheller, AB and and our favorite place on earth, Ajijic, Mexico. We have airbnb listings in both places in addition to a penthouse condo located on a luxury resort in Manzanillo.

In between property management and regular games of pickle-ball we run a not-for profit charity foundation and are currently developing a medical tourism project. We’ve raised a family and built several successful businesses in our Canadian hometown. It’s a blessing to open our homes to the public and share what we’ve enjoyed for many years.

Drumheller has always been an internationally recognized tourist destination famous for dinosaurs and its prehistoric landscape while our rentals in Mexico are perfect for both long term living accommodations or a much needed getaway. Check out our listings to learn the unique history of each of our custom designed homes.

Why they chose this property

Truly one of a kind. Comfortable, spacious, romantic, beautiful, relaxing

What makes this property unique

We partner with various tourism services in town which we are happy to connect you with in addition to offering Spa Treatments in our own Clinician Room. Ask us about our packages or to book any additional services you might be seeking.

We welcome families and young children, but our home is not 100% child proof and contains several antiques. We request that you treat our home gently, with extra precautions if leaving children unattended. Please use your discretion when deciding if our property is suitable to accommodate you and your young ones.

We're located on the main street of a quiet neighborhood, next to a public park and few blocks away from Newcastle beach. The view of the Red Deer river and Badlands from our back porch is ever-changing, with plenty of recreation such as kayaking, rafting, fishing and more. Wildlife makes its way back and forth regularly. Our property is a 10 minute drive to the Royal Tyrrell and 5 minutes to the largest Dinosaur and Community Recreation and Information Centre.
